Hi! I’ve literally just had my first ever pole lesson (and I’ve got to say, I absolutely loved it!). Anyway! I did move, well I was showed a move, which I struggled with. I’m wanting to watch videos on the actual move itself and find tips for it but she never told us any names of any of the moves we were doing! So, I really hope my descriptive skills are good enough for you to take guesses at otherwise it looks like I’ll just have to hope I can manage it next week!

Okay, so you’re stood slightly to the side of the pole, with one leg infront of it, crossing over (still touching the floor) and your other to the side of you. You now start leaning backwards around the pole, bending both legs until you’re on the ground!

My instructor said I was leaning too much into the pole, but when I do it, I can’t feel any way to actually move else where or lean elsewhere! So I struggled quite a bit. Anyway, does anybody have even the slightest clue which move this is? You’re on the ground the whole time so it isn’t mid-air stuff or anything like that. Really hope you can help guys and thanks in advance!

Veena teaches this as the Back Bend Slide. I would really recommend to get her lessons, they are super duper helpful, very thorough and quite handy because the moves have names so we can talk about them :))))
Happy you liked your very first lesson, and good luck for this beautiful journey!

Sort of! Only you wrap yourself around the pole as you go down (almost spinning -imagine a snake going round the pole-) You sort of fall, with yourself wrapping around the pole, bending both legs, and fall so you’re on the floor. Not sure if thats any more descriptive or helpful!

Maybe she showed you the knee hook back?

Google for back knee hook spin!

Nope! Not that one either! Neither legs were wrapped around the pole, only twisting around it instead. Sorry about this! Just really want to know what its called!

It’s very similar to the back bend slide, only you wrap your actual body around the pole? If that makes any sense?

look up Ballerina, twisted ballerina, ballerina spin, and body spiral and see if it is any of those. are you standing? is it a spin or a stationary position? sounds like a body spiral, which is a spin.

I know the one you’re thinking of!! I’ve seen it before- I’ve even DONE it before! However, I can’t think of the name.
More research, I’ll post again once I figure it out.
Either that, or I’ll post a video later today!

    “Dying move/dying spin”

While I’m inclined to agree with Lucca on the name, the only youtube video I can find is the one more like a back hook spin. The move I think we’re trying to find keeps both feet on the ground.

Yes it does keep both feet on the floor! Glad somebody remembers it! Currently looking at the links everybody has sent 🙂 But hopefully I’ll find it!

Wow the responses are great! My internet connection is terrible so its taking a while to load, but so far managed to look at the back spiral and it is very similar although both feet are kept on the floor and the leg isn’t extended (Well, it is to start with, but becomes bended as you, in a sense, curl up as you hit the floor almost.

Ahh no, it isn’t the dying spin I’m afraid! Trying to learn the, erm, technical terms 😛 To help describe, but from looking at the gallery of grips, you start off with something like the partial split grip, but more to your side as you’re stood infront of the pole? I may have to attempt a paint drawing on my laptop to try and explain as I’m not very good at this :’) haha

The problem is, you don’t actually (from what I saw and was taught) use your legs to grip or hook the pole at all? You simply fall backwards and as you do, your whole body sort of contorts around the pole in a slight spin as you end up ont he floor with your knees tucked in. Really hope this helps, trying to find it is sending me insane!

(Apologies for the spamming on this post!) but aha! I found a picture which helps me describe it! Imagine standing with one leg infront of your pole and your other leg firmly on the ground (both touching the ground) and falling back so you’re like this: http://i.ytimg.com/vi/gaqtHcOL-jw/hqdefault.jpg where you then drop and tuck your knees in as you slightly spin on the pole to twist?

-without- wrapping your legs around the pole, but rather, together on the same side as the pole as your body?

it wasnt this one? https://youtu.be/dJ4hDT1RA6k haha! we’re determined to figure this one out! 🙂

I will! I’ve found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r51eszjhJPE&app=desktop of the dying move. It isn’t the full move, but more a broken down part of it. The exact fall she does between 0:35 and around 0:45, NOT the bit where she hooks her legs, but simply the fall. I know it’s really simple! But I literally can’t get my hips right, I lean more into the pole than actually falling back (I have no idea how I’m doing this…God help me!) my bum sort of gets stuck on the pole, and then when I’m on the floor, the damn pole is below my bum rather than on my lower back! Literally failing so much at this move! :’) I know it’s only my first lesson but everybody else managed it so easily!

It was very similar to that one! Only the legs aren’t hooked! 🙂

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kGj8kdoCFOQ The dying spin…no hook…but a bit more spin…but the feet basically stay on the ground

Sort of but she stays vertical. Where as you actually fall fully back around the pole, try the link I posted with the 10 seconds noted, as thats what I’m trying to describe. The rest of the move she does isn’t the same, but when she does it without the hook, thats what I’m trying to do. Sorry about this

    I’m picturing a move….

I feel like we called it the mermaid spin… but when I looked up mermaid spin its different.

This is the only thing I could find that is what I was thinking.. but maybe with out lifting as much?
