Hey everyone, Just wanted to let you all know that I while I was on my summer break from teaching, I wrote a pole instructor training program. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif My training is 10 hours long and is approved by ACE and AFAA for continuing ed. credits! I was so happy to get approved because it’s just one more step towards getting pole fitness legitimized by the fitness industry. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
Anyway I’d like to get the word out there and answer any questions anyone might have. Here is some info:

-You must be solid in your beginner through intermediate-advanced pole moves in order to participate. I will teach you HOW TO TEACH, not how to do moves.
-You will have to pass a written exam after the course and you will have to submit videos of your teaching skills in order to earn your certificate.
-You will get a heavy dose of anatomy instruction (I used to be a high school science teacher) from anatomical models, posters, and hands-on activity!
-You will receive a 50 page manual with lesson plan templates and trick/spin/skill breakdown charts.
-Safety, safety, and more safety will be covered!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif I’m big on injury prevention!
-I emphasize communicating/teaching in a way that not only will conserve your energy but will save your voice.
-I focus on teaching so that ALL students are successful in your class. You will learn movement modification and prep exercises for learning new skills.

    About me:
-I have been a professional educator since 1996 so I have a strong educational foundation to my training.
-I am an ACE certified group fitness instructor and have almost three years of teaching pole, chair, and yoga.
-I earned a Pole Position Fitness Certification and a Pole Moves Certificate. I am a Pole Moves Master Trainer.

I am located on the East Coast of the US and do regional trainings, but I am willing to travel. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif The price is fitness industry standard at $300 for mid-atlantic trainings, $400 with a four student minimum if I have to travel overnight.

That is awesome news!!! Especially the CEU for AFAA and ACE….I saw on your site participants would need to be proficient in beginner and intermediate moves but what is your criteria for what you feel is beginner and intermediate?

Hey pp15171! I would expect that a pole teacher should be able to do floor work, one-handed spins, combination spins, CKRs, CARs, climbs, basic inverts, knee hangs, superman, catepillar climb – you get the idea. No need to do the spatchcock or death lay!

Katana, the trainings will be on weekends because I work full time during the week. You would take the written exam and submit videos after you returned home.

Sounds great! I am also certified through PoleMoves. I love being certified, and know others will love it too. What a great thing to do with your time. The PoleMoves class is offered at around 1000 on the west coast, and on the east coast, it is 700(with a discount to 450 if early). Just wanted to let you know that you could charge more, especially based on your credentials. I like that for your class, you have to know moves through advanced. At our training, we had 5 beginners. A couple had only tried it twice! And the others couldn't invert or anything. (ummmmm….how are they supposed to teach the students-no offense to those who were beginners when starting, Its just that most people look to the teacher to know more than they do.)

I had been poling for 6 years when I became certified, so I take it very seriously. Injuries can happen, and I take peoples lives and safety seriously.

    Good luck!

I think I'll get to make this course!  I need to figure it out real soon so I can get in on the discount.  I really would like to do it. 🙂

Angel traveled to St. Louis about a month ago to do a certification class and I have to say that it was awesome!  I have certifications from other pole certification companies and she by far did the best as far as explaining the injury potential of pole.  She broke down the rotator cuff and the muscles and associated injuries/causes better than my anatomy instructor in nursing school!  Angel also taught techniques of instructing students that were very helpful.  You will not meet a nicer,

more caring instructor. Another plus of Angel's course is that you earn CEUs that you can use for AFAA or ACE because AFAA, ACE and the PFA reviewed her course and found it worthy of granting CEUs/endorsing.  Be wary of those courses that you cannot get AFAA, ACE or other fitness CEUs from.  They either don't meet the requirements or don't care enough about the safety to submit their cert classes to these AFAA/ACE/PFA.. (A well known pole studio in KC advertised a pole certification course and when I asked if they gave ACE or AFAA  CEUs for completion of the course, the studio owner asked me what ACE and AFAA were!  Clearly they were more interested in my money then in teaching me how to instruct my students safely!)  I highy recommend Angel and her Discoveries Dance course.

Aww Polepuma, you make me blush!  Thank you!  Your words mean a lot and I'm so pleased you enjoyed my shoulder segment!

I wrote the initial post over a year ago and a few things have changed.  It is now 12 hours total and the manual has expanded so I have adjusted the price to reflect that.  I also have a 6 student minimum for travel trainings.

I changed websites so here is my new link: http://www.discoveriesdance.com/

I'm really looking forward to the Indy training!  Can't wait to meet you Kobajo, Sparrow and Rikki!!

I want to sign up for the Indy class.  Can you give me more information, like what time does it start and end, etc..?  I will be driving about 5 hours to get there.  I'm wondering how many hotel nights I would need.

    Hi Linda,

We'll start Sat at 2 and go until 8:30.  We'll pick back up on Sunday at 8 and go until 2:30.  I am flying in Sat morning, getting a hotel for one night and flying back out Sun night.  It sounds like you'll be fine getting a hotel for one night.

Thanks!  It sounds just perfect. Do I need to do anything besides pay on your website?

Linda, you'll need to bring a resistance band, two old men's ties, a blindfold, food, drinks, plus something comfy to sit on.  Dress really comfortably with pole clothes underneath.  No shoes are necessary.
