  • Need a Roommate for PoleCon?

Posted by Sierra Taye on February 24, 2014 at 11:03 pm

I’ve made a post about this before, but now that I have reservations, I figured I’d being it up again.

I have secured my reservation at the Baltimore Harborplace Hotel.

    Reservation:
    1 room
    2 queen beds
    Check-in: July 3rd, 2014
    Check-out: July 6th, 2014
    Total: $620.24

I am looking for a roommate to split the cost of the room with me. If you were able to do so, the total would be $310.12 each.. a HUGE difference. I’m assuming the best way to do a payment (since I have already paid for the room, (and I would send you a confirmation of that)) would be to pay me directly through paypal? Correct me if I’m wrong.. I’ve never done this before. I am looking for single roommates (no significant others, please), but if you and your BFF are going together and don’t mind sharing a bed (I actually think there can be a cot in the room…? Like, they provide it?), I’d be down with that, and in that case, the total cost would be $206.24 each. The more the merrier, as long as everyone in comfortable. Also, if more than one person wants to share a room (ie, two others besides me) who don’t know each other and no one wants to share a bed and someone is down for a blow up mattress or something and really doesn’t care, that can be done too! I’m a college student man.. I don’t want this trip to break the bank!

Another side note: I will be driving my car to the convention from Rhode Island. Some major cities I will be passing near: New Haven, CT; Manhattan NY; Philadelphia PA. There are a few others — you can simply go to google maps and type in directions from RI to Baltimore. I am willing to drive someone down with me if you’d like to room together (even if you don’t want to room)if I’m going to be driving right near your city anyway, as long as you’re willing to pitch in for gas (which I would break down like this: distance from my house to your house I would pay for, and then the distance from yours to the CON would be split, that’s the fairest I can think of). I have a 4-door Nissan, if that gives you an idea of the space in the car for luggage. I’d be making maybe two stops along the way to eat or something (it’s a six hour drive), so we’d be getting breaks as well.

I hope this post wasn’t too jumbled and confusing, I’m trying to put all of this information in here and I don’t know the best way to word it. So feel free to ask for clarification.

A little about me, if you wanted to know about your potential roommate:

My name is Jessica, Sierra Taye is just a name I made for pole. I am nineteen, and I have been poling for exactly a year as of this month. I go to school for massage therapy, and I do a lot of artsy related things.

Please let me know if you are interested, I’d love to get this all sorted if possible as quickly as I can, I hate leaving things to the last minute! Thanks everyone!

Which ones are you thinking of? And didja happen to be looking for a roommate? Even if you aren’t, I’d love to meet up with you while it’s going on!

I hear the liquid motion one is good….I will be looking up the others to determine what I will decide on. Don’t need a roommate but I am sure as it gets closer someone will chime in. Will definitely need to meet up at least!

Ah, I’m so jealous. I’d love to go. I’m from NJ so it’s not far.

BUT…It’s 4th of July weekend and my mom’s birthday. Also, I’m very new to pole at the moment, and I’m not sure I’d be able to keep up.

BUT (again)… If, closer to the day, I can wiggle out of familial obligations and have progressed in my poling I will let you know!

Oh, and I’m weirdly obsessed with Rhode Island license plates. 🙂

AllysonKendal – I’m not new-new to pole.. but I’m no where near the level half of the people here are! I really want to go meet other dancers though, and immerse myself in the community. And yes, please do let me know! What’s so cool about our licence plates? I’ll go appreciate mine some more. 🙂

And to everyone else — I’m really super excited about this and I’m planning everything down to a T right now.. I’ve already figured out the tolls and I’m making a packing list and ugh, why do I do all of this so early!? Anyway, hoping to hear from someone! 🙂

It’s great to be a planner! And it does look like a ton of fun so I see why you’re super excited.

I think I’m going to set a few goals for myself to hit by my birthday… April 1st. And if I do maybe I’ll feel more confident with pole. At this point I’ve only told a few friends I’m doing it, and not my parents. Not for fear or judgement over the stripper stigma… Really just because I’m not at a point where I’d want to show anyone…

And also I’m sure my family is going to want to do something for the 4th/moms bday… But I think if I get myself where I want to be and propose it before they’re all planned its possible. And even if you have a roommate or two we can still meet up and say hello… you can tell me all the awesome things you have planned and I can copy! Haha!

And your license plates… Ok I’m a license plate snob. I think it can make or break a nice car (it’s a all about the accessories). Well, I just think RIs are subtle and nice… But the wave gives it personality so it’s not boring (like our piss yellow reflective license plates). Then I read this article once on how in RI the number on your plate can be a status symbol. Apparently people pay top dollar for a low number… But mostly they get passed down from generation to generation. Any time I’m in RI I try and spot “important people” with really low numbers. You should google it! It’s cool!

I would jump on this since Baltimore is only 2 hours from me and I’ve always wanted to go to a pole convention. Unfortunately I will have to work those days and have family plans right after that. Sites around inner Harbour, Fel’s point, the Aquarium are all very cool to check out if you’ve never been. There is also a really neat area in inner Harbour called power plant live. They have bands, bars, piano bars etc. I think you can get in there with an underage bracelet that they give you at the gate. Oh and don’t forget to check out Camden Yards too!

Allyson Kendall – I have lived here all my life and never heard of that! So weird! I do like the waves though. And I don’t really have anything planned for when I’m down there.. this is my first trip alone and my mom is worried because I guess Baltimore isn’t that safe? And I’m young. So unless I had someone with me (met up with someone and went out someplace with them), I won’t be leaving the hotel. So hopefully I can find someone to hang out with, it’d be super fun to do something for the fourth or something! And yeah, definitely — like I just said, I’d love to meet up with people down there! I hope you meet all of your goals. Do you do Sykpe pole jams?

blueyedgrl – That stinks that you can’t go. Thank you for piping up anyway, though! I appreciate it! If I find someone willing to go with me, I’ll definitely check those places out! Thanks! Plans like that might have to wait til I get there though, unless someone makes them with me ahead of time.

Yeah, there probably is no real reason to leave the hotel anyway (sounds like thats where the action will be). I do remember there being a really nice mall though. 🙂

I’ve never done a skype polejam… what do you during one? Motivate each other? Try new moves?

Not really a mall- more a collection of specialty shops (read expensive). however it is on the harbor which is nice and there a lot of activities.

Anyone still looking for a roommate? I’d love to cut the cost of this trip (and do so as quick as possible!) so please let me know! All the info is up in the first post!

Not yet – my car needed work so the money had to go to that. 🙁 Hopefully once I get a roommate I’ll have the wiggleroom again to get the workshops! That’s why I want to have one fast — I don’t want them to fill up!

TLizzard – I just scrounged up the money to buy my first workshop – It’s with Charlee Wagner (the Saturday workshop!). I’m extremely excited, and I’m hoping to get maybe one more workshop in.

She is one of the ones on my list. I’m looking at her, Amber Ray, Lou Landers and Phoenix Kazree. I haven’t taken workshops before and want to get the most out of them – just not sure who is really good and who would be so advanced I’d feel lost. I’m going to figure it out this week – I’ve been asking around but haven’t gotten much feedback yet. Looking forward to the event, regardless we will all have fun!

Hey TLizzard – I followed you over here from our conversation about Cleo, haha! I highly recommend Phoenix Kazree. I did a tricks workshop with her at West Australian Pole Camp and she was most excellent at demonstrating and breaking down every move. She’s a very clear and kind teacher 🙂

Thanks Mulan! I want to sign up for at least two so I’m glad you can give me some insight on Phoenix. Thanks again for all your help and have a great week!

I’m nervous about that too – I don’t want a class to be super advanced, and then I can’t keep up. That, or sometimes when I go to a studio the instructor has a super hard warm up and I physically cannot keep up.. it feels so crappy when you can’t even get through the warm up, ya know? I’m just unsure of what would be at my level. I’m considering Phoenix and Lou as well, and I’m really looking to Derick’s “static pole flow” workshop – his style is super cool!

Sierra- I signed up for Phoenix and thinking of Lou as well. I’m trying to decide on Lou, Amber Ray, Cleo and Charlee (I think you signed up for hers already). I sent a fb message to Cleo about her classes and the level needed and she responded once and now waiting for her follow up. I’ll let you know what she says. See if Derick is on fb and message him – you can find out the level of difficulty before you pay for a class you are concerned you might not be suited for. I want to do Cleo (she seems like she would be fun) but doing right after Phoenix might be a killer – lol

Heard back from Cleo – she said her advanced flex workshop is splits based, middle and front. Don’t’ need an overspilt but close to the splits or flat splits is recommended. Intermediate workshop is a more basic workshop but a comfortable invert is recommended. Hope this helps!

Sierra – which time slot did you take with Charlee? I’m thinking of taking Amber’s on Saturday morning just haven’t bit the bullet yet 🙂
