So as a Level 2 student, we started learning how to invert towards the end of our session.  After inverting 3-4 times, I was able to let go with both hands and slide down!

It's a small victory, especially because everyone here is SO good, but it's a big one for me!  I'm so excited!

I'm really looking forward to being able to take some really cool pole photos in the next few months.  I do have some nasty bruises on the inside of my thighs from gripping, is this fairly normal?

And I've noticed that since I am just starting out, I tend to swing a little too much to get in a basic invert.  Anyone have any tricks for strengthening so I can essentially tuck my body up and then dump backwards?

Oh, I remember it took me forever to get the invert!  It is so exciting when you do though.  When I first learned I was kicking up into it and I did hurt my back.  I ended up having to see a Chiropractor to get straightened out. So, please be careful.

As for gaining strength I stand on the side of my pole, hips in front of the pull and lift my knees to my chest.  Not sure of the name, but you should be able to find it on the lessons.  Be sure to do both sides.  I can now invert on both sides without kicking at all, which I thought I would never do.  You will get stronger, congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  That is so exciting!!!!!!!! Next big trick….Shoulder Mount.  Not there yet, but someday, and you will to!  🙂

Yes, I've been doing more pole holds than before to try and gain strength.  It will come in time!  I am very excited though 🙂

I struggled with the basic invert for what seemed like forever! I was originally taught to kick into it (not good!). I have ZERO upper body strength! It always seemed to be hit or miss for me. I finally had an instructor that told me to lower my hands, and to stop looking at my feet!! I can nail it every time now. Think of it like a counter lever. The weight of your upper body going back and down is helping you get your lower body in the air. I started doing it slow, and was amazed at what a difference it made. Don’t worry. You’re progressing beautifully!
