    Hey everyone!
I’m very curious, are there people out there that do many different kinds of exercising? Pole is, of course, an excellent kind of physical training, and can be a catalyst for many other things like Lyra, Silks and such. But, what if you’re doing many different types of exercise?
I’ve recently started poling again, gotten myself a fairly physically active job, and I’ve been running for nearly 2 months now (wow! I didn’t realize it was that long!).
I’m having troubles keeping my energy up, though it’s getting easier over time. I’m also concerned about rest days- on my rest days off the pole, can I still run? If I’ve got a rest day in which I have to work, is it still a rest day?

I’d love to keep up with my life, and keep up with pole a lot more, but I’m struggling with my energy. Obviously food is an issue (which I am working on), but my rest is very important, too!

    Thanks

Hi! Here’s my typical training schedule

M: crossfit/weightlifting one hour during afternoon lunch break. Take 1 hr pole class, teach 1 hr pole class

    T: crossfit/weights

W: mobility day- teach 1 hr choreo class then 1 hr yoga

    Th: crossfit/weights

    F: crossfit/weights

S: take 1 hr pole class, teach 1 hr pole class

S: 2 hrs open pole, 1 hr silks

My rest day is weds but it’s active recovery. I eat plenty of food (I out eat my bf) and get lots of quality sleep. I’ve been keeping up this schedule for about 4 months now. Every other month I’ve taken a full week off for active recovery. Hope that helps!

Thanks Laura! I’m impressed you have the energy for all of that! You must eat all the time! How do you… well, find the time? 😉

It’s hard! I’m busy most nights of the week, but I’m lucky that I have a gym at my work and I can go straight to the pole studio after work. My Sundays are dedicated to prepping food for the week.

I try to touch my pole five days a week. Whether it is 15-20 minutes of pole ups/arm lifts, some climbs, or a little dancy dance. I do a little bit of muscle toning and stretching as well as hula hoop a few times a week I would like to put in more pole and body work, but there are not enough hours in my day or energy in my body for that. If I can get one solid hour practice in a week I’m a happy camper.

Everyone is different. Often if you’ve been training for months you can keep rest days to 1 or 2 days a week, however, I still suggest watching which muscle groups you’re using each day so you can avoid over lapping muscle groups too often. So if I were to run, I would not do a leg strength day the next day, I would strengthen legs the same day as my run, or have a day of rest between.

If you are feeling low on energy then check to make sure you’re eating well, sleeping well and if so it may be time to cut back for a week. The body needs time off and taking a full week, while it sounds like a bad idea, can be wonderful for progress. Listen to your body.

I use to train super hard and now I feel life is short and I want to enjoy it, so I don’t want to feel run down all the time or sore. I’m now in better shape then when I pushed hard for weeks on end. Unless you’re a professional athlete and you have to workout, try to space things out so you don’t burn out!
