Uh, uh! Don't make me do it!!! Haha! Seriously, that's a good idea, Princess Peach!
-
Yes! That will be the challenge next month! Help me remember ok?!
-
Haha the one leg climb is one of my 3 fav things about me in pole for that other thread! I love that climb…which reminded me I am so over the princess climb…lets find a new climb!
-
Prettypuff1 It's what I call the "pole climb" in the lessons. You can see it here in this video @ 32 seconds https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/4e4acc99-7194-4ac3-89e1-6bf90ac37250
-
OK, I looove the one legged climb, just like I loooove the body wave with a 'kick'. What is the princess climb though?
-
Ah, see, I can't do it if it's the challenge because most of the moves I don't like are wayy above my level anyway. Spatchcock is one … I actually find I have an aversion to most "daredevil" style tricks, the ones that are pulled out for shock & awe more than anything else.
I am personally really tired of the Vagina Monster and most floorwork that just involves laying back and moving your legs around, ribbon legs, and clacking the heels together. I am bored with it because I've just seen too much of it. Granted, there's only so much creative floorwork you can do, so I don't hold it against dancers who do it, but… YAWN. Next please.
I don't think the Meathook (and ugh, what a name) or the Janeiro are very attractive either.
And finally, Flag. What is the point of that move? How does it even fit into a dance (unless you go all the way into a Flag Invert)? It's a fun one for street poling, and I love that I can half do it, but I don't think it's a nice dance move.
-
I think flag can be a transitional move down the pole with V legs. Sort of like a baby iron X. Not like I can do it yet, but… I think it can be in a dance. But a horizontal flag by itself? That's just for bragging rights. 🙂
Karol Helms did a spinning Janeiro as the last move of her USPDF optional routine this year and I thought it was a nice way to finish. But I agree that most of the time it's kind of a WTF move. And I usually find the spatchcock to be ugly too, but Shelly Lamb manages to make it look elegant. I think a lot of it has to do with the placement of the hands.
-
I wasn’t 100 percent on what meat hook was so googled it earlier this week.
There is a lovely picture which I understand to be a variation on this page: http://poleranking.com/community/threads/natasha-wangs-signature-tricks-north-pole-sthlm.443/
I think the poker in the picture looks fantastic!

Vertical Art & Fitness magazine posted a photo on their Facebook today that made me want to come back to this discussion.
The photo was of a girl dancewear on the subway doing a crazy oversplit across the aisle with one foot on each bench, and all I could think was "Ew." Oversplits me no likey.
(And I feel bad saying that because I know there are a lot of Veeners working hard for splits/oversplits.)
I think I'm just a little grossed out by contortion moves/poses in general. Seeing limbs and joints going in directions they're not supposed to gives me the willies.
Sorry oversplitters!
-
OMG, I LOVE contortion! I so don't agree with you, Pankake!
All Veeners who are working on their oversplits – nothing to see here, you can go back to your practice now 😉
-
I just have to say, while I understand why some people are creeped out by contortion moves, I absolutely LOVE them! Maybe it’s because flexibility comes easier to me than strength (for some it is the opposite), but moves w/ a nice deep back-bend or twist or oversplit is just about the greatest trick ever in my eyes. Full extension and beyond are my personal future goals in whatever I do, so I am extremely impressed by contortion. To each their own! 🙂
-
…and there is something other-worldly about contortion. It’s like black-magic or something. GO SHAPE-SHIFTERS, HOORAH! haha
-
No Hate Intended Ladies. Contort All You Like. i PersonallY Am More Disposed To Strength I Guess. (Damn What Is With My Phone And Caps?) I’m Impressed By Really Flexible People OfCourse But I Dont Always Think It Makes A Move Any Prettier.
-
I’m pretty sure that no one took offense to your preferences. Like I said, I totally understand how it may not be everyone’s cup-o’-tea. Contortion moves have very different lines from the elegant and powerhouse styles. We are all esthetic-junkies in the pole world it seems, and we often favor some forms over others. I can appreciate that.
-
Contortion creeps me out- I like pretty lines but there's a fine line between beautiful flexibility and OMG WTH are you doing I hope you don't break! And any crotch shots that are point blank WHAM here's my goods! Not a fan of those moves. And what's with all the butt floss lately? My facebook page is full of pole related butt floss pics. I don't mind peek-a-boo cheeks but when did it become the trend to thong it up? Literally. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I prefer to dress modestly on the pole compared to what I've been seeing lately.
-
@ Kobajo
Do you mean the g-strings that kinda sit on the buttcheeks rather than above the hips or just thongs in general? Cuz I have been seeing a lotta the floss too, lol. I get kinda envious, though, I doubt that would be very flattering on me. Some girls have those cute bums that aren’t overwhelming to see. Mine is rather…juicy…so it probably would appear as though I were dancing completely bottomless if I wore that. lol

I personally love all the V-Leg-Moves: Teddy, Wrist Sit, Extended Legs Carousel. Not just because the legs look really impressively long, but also, what others might find vulgar, I find sexy.
Also like the sexy squat.
Moves I don't like are the "Vagina Monster" and the "Dying Insect". I so agree with Runemist and Kate, these just look kinda… I don't know. Stupid, ugly, … definetely not sexy at all! From the foor, from a headstand, from any inverted figures… I just think it looks really stupid. Escecially the "walking on your butt"-variation I always think: Is she disabled in some way? Why does she do this?
If you move both legs mirrorlike and do heel claps I think it's really cool, but I guess that doesn't count as a variation, cause it's nothing about waving your hip then? Also, I personally don't like the yogini. I can do it, I like doing it, but I don't think it's pretty and never have seen a variation I like.
I also agree with Kobajo, contortion is cool – but only a certain point. I've once seen a picture of Cleo, where you couldn't even tell if it's a human beeing and all I could think was: "Why?"
-
-
hahahaha ah! omg! The longer I look at that picture the worse it gets. but i think it would be ok if that was the end result of doing one of those heel kicks to the floor that alethea does..
-
OMG, I love this move! Seriously, take all my strength and give me the ability to sit like that!
-
Nah I'm with sassypants on that photo – yuck! Like Elektra Vallens said upthread, "it's like something pornographic you'd do to a Barbie doll at a certain age."
I think V-Leg moves are OK in moderation but when you have a routine or a dancer who's all V-Legs all the time, in every pose, then it's like… OK hun, we're all familiar with your crotch now, got anything else to show us? 😉
-
She doesn’t sit like that it’s an action shot of the seal/bobbi kick she does, it’s a great move! But an image of it freeze frame is a little scary lol
-
I love this thread and think I've read every single post now. On many moves I'm in agreement with others. According to me, the following moves CAN all be executed well, but most times look at least a little ugly:
Side climb, Flatline scorpio, Caterpillar, Shoulder mount flip up on the pole (on the floor usually good), Fonji, Rocketman, Yogini, Eros, Genie, Remi sit, Spatchcock and that chinese pole trick when they are in an upright position up on the pole, one leg bent with flexed foot pressed against the pole and the other leg straighter and also with the sole on the pole.
Iron X is a bit "worn out" (but not by me ;)). I like it when it's very properly done (the way Oona does it in her training video that I bet everyone have seen and which has gotten 330 000+ views in one week, totally surreal BTW!!) but otherwise it's' not too interesting to watch IMO.
Also I think that upright and inverted pole splits are a bit tricky to make pretty. Either the back has to be very flattened and the torso really close to the pole or you have to keep it at about 90 degrees instead, like in Marlo splits for example, they're awsome.
But it can be interesting and rewarding to conquer some of these moves even if they aren't so pretty.

Just MY opinion but I don't like this thread. I have seen it here before and people get their feelings hurt or don't want to share their accomplishments. Pretty discouraging for people who maybe just got their wrist seat or whatever and wanted to share… until they thought everyone here hates it. I am well aware no one meant it in that manner and are just sharing their personal opinions. That being said I have been here a couple of years and know this community in ways new people do not. To say you personally do not like a move is one thing but to describe it as "cringe" or "ugh" worthy is not empowering, in fact is quite the opposite.
I can find merit in basically ANY move and want people to be comfortable sharing them V-legs and all https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
