Posted by PoleDancingKAT on June 14, 2009 at 3:58 pm

I recently bought a lil’ mynx pole and can’t get enough of playing with it… I love what it’s doing to my upper body! Although, I haven’t found much time lately as my two toddlers (or should I say my two loving monsters) have been challenging me lately and have tired me out! I’m in dire need of getting back into learning how to pole dance. I appreciate all of you who post your dance videos. It’s been wonderful to watch as well as a great motivator! I haven’t posted any videos as I don’t feel anything I’ve done on the pole is really worth watching yet.

I’m looking for a few online beginner pole dance buddies, from this group of course, so we can all share our progress and help motivate each other. For instance, we can set goals and deadlines to learn a particular trick or spin and then post it. We can help each other along the way if we’re having a hard time achieving our goal. Anyone interested?

Sorry for the confusion…I meant online pole dance buddies. Pole dancing beginners from this group who wouldn’t mind sharing their progress with me.

Thats a great idea, to find some online buddies. If you have a web cam you can always set a time to meet others in the chat room and pole together with your cams on! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_idea.gif

Hey PDKat! we’re ALL pole dancing buddies here! practically all the active members here share their progress & successes (as well as our difficulties), and we love learning about others’ progress too! doesn’t really matter who’s a beginner & who isn’t, everyone here does a great job in the motivating department & in helping eachother! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)
What veena said about meeting others in chat & pole jamming sounds like fun too.
And you should definitely post a vid sometime- there’s no such thing as "not worth watching"! i find that even a short vid of a sexy walk around the pole is worth watching!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Sure all active members are sharing their progess. I was hoping to find newbies though, who are at the same stage as I am in pole dancing. I think most members who are more advanced would get bored with a beginner like me.

You’re absolutely right about a short video of a sexy walk could be worth watching. Therefore, I’ll be working on a short video soon on "transitions" between 2-3 basic spins I learned at S Factor. So if any newbie is interested in joining me please let me know. I love Veena’s idea about the chat room with web cam on!

There are tons of beginner dancers on here, some don’t even have a pole yet! You could go through the new users section of the forum, (a lot of them are beginners) you might see someone you think you’ll get along with…. send them an email https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif We all think its great when beginners post vids, then we can help them and watch them grow! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

    Hi Cream-

As I mentioned in our prior email conversation. I will be posting my first video soon. I’ll let you know when, so you can check it out. That way we can get started! I hope we can motivate each other!!!

Yeah I’m just beginning too and haven’t posted a vid yet, but I’m finally getting to the point where I might have the confidence to make one! I hope to have it up in the next few days! And I’d be happy to work together to keep each other motivated and share progress!! Personally all I have down are the pinwheel, fireman, back hook, basic pole sit, and most recently the carousel! I was proud of that one because it required mastering a new grip. What tricks have you learned so far? Which ones are you hoping to conquer soon??

Im a beginner! I would love to be one of your online pole buddies! Im hoping to get my pole soon. But in the mean time Im working on building up my strength and studying moves as much as possible. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

    Hi London-

We’re both at about the same level, it looks like. I, too, know the Fireman and the other version called the
Flirty Fireman, Back hook, Pinwheel Knee, Carousel and the other version called the Carousel Chair Combo and the Chair…these I learned at Sheila Kelley’s S Factor Studio. All these have different names at their studio of course.

I’m currently working on the Reverse Grab and the Cradle, which I also learned at S Factor but haven’t done it for a while. At this studio I also learned the Split Spin, but I can’t raise my legs high enough (or wide enough). I’m just not strong and flexible enough in that thigh area where it meets the hips. My core stength and flexibility need months of work to reach that level of gracefulness. I guess that is what I would like to achieve this year along with learning the Basic Invert so that I can conquer the Crucifix and then the Gemini, Scorpio and Chopper! I hope to post my first video within the next two weeks. I look forward to seeing your first video. I always enjoy to see how others transition from one move to the next.

    Hi Toccara-

Let me know when you get your pole. You can join Cream, London and I as we share our progress together! Let me know when you post your first video and I will do the same.

How exciting, just beware Toccara that when you do get your pole you will not be able to stay off of it and you may find yourself hard-pressed to get anything else done!! Haha.

And KAT that is so cool that you have those moves down, I still can’t figure out the cradle, for some reason I find it hard to support my weight that way even though I can do that grip for other moves. Hmm!

And I know I still need to work up to being able to invert because that’s an intermediate move, but what frustrates me is that on the first day my pole arrived, before I knew about this site and was just messing around on my own, I somehow was able to pull off an invert no problem at all, but ever since then I can’t do it again even when I try my hardest! I’m probably overthinking it and I probably didn’t do it correctly that first time anyway so I’ve put that on hold to wait until I’m properly at that level, but my housemate is able to do it no problem without ever having pole experience before and she even does it the right way, but pulling up slowly instead of just kicking and flinging herself into the air. Oh well, everyone learns at different rates, so I’ll just keep working in my own way!!

I am still waiting for my pole but I’m watching the Vertical Dance set to get prepared. Once I get my pole I will be posting videos, and looking for tips and constructive criticism. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Oh yes I will definately join you all!
lol https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif I already know once I get my pole I wont be off of it because Im already studying the moves and ppls videos like an addict https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif but i cant wait!

The X-pole, the tungsten (more expensive one https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif ) is like the brass poles correct?

London, I’m just working on building up abdominal strength to be able to do the basic invert. I haven’t attempted it yet and won’t until I’ve got all the basic moves out of the way along with learning how to transition between moves.

Cream, I wish you luck on the rest of your finals this week. Let us know how you’re doing once you get back on the pole.

PoleDanceABCs, you are going to have so much fun when you get the pole! Keep us posted.

Toccara, I don’t know anything about the X-Pole since I’m not in the market for one. I have a Lil’ Mynx removable pole. I hope someone else can answer your question about the tungsten vs. brass.

Legs, I’m glad you can join us in sharing your progress. I hope your wrist heals soon. Perhaps you should look into getting wrist bands to protect the skin. I’ve never had that problem, but I will be looking into them anyway. I think I’ll go with the leather material ones, they look cool. I wish you luck on the cradle and reverse grab. Those are the ones I’m working on now, my back is sore from it!

I’m a beginner. I joined about a week ago and just got my pole in the mail 2 days ago. I posted my very first video last night. Watching all the videos, beginner or advanced, is all it takes to motivate me. I watch someone and run downstairs to my pole to try out a move I saw and liked https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif . I don’t have a webcam but I’ll join you in discussions! Great idea!

Yeah, I just saw your youtube video when the pole arrived and your back hook spin! Have fun!

You mentioned that the video size was too big to post here. I, too, have the same problem. I’m recording from a digital pocket camera and there’s no way of making the size smaller…at least, that I am aware of. Are we just out of luck on decreasing the size? Do I need to buy another camera that will record in a smaller file?

Hey, glad to say I did very well on finals. My grades were posted a recieved an A- and a B for the two classes I took this semester. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_ugeek.gif I am pretty satisfied with these two grades. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif I did enjoy the classses along with learning. I worked on a few vids tonight but they are very dark. My video cam/lighting issues I guess. But I have been enjoying all the video posted each day. They are all great motivation. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif I am having problems commenting on vids though not sure why??? everytime I try to post a comment I am sent back to the home page, go figure? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif Anyways< I would like to say I think all the videos posted this week were great and very motivating. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif I got up at 6:15 this morning and did some poling. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif I did some squats and pull ups on the pole too. My upper body and core needs an overhaul https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_ncool.gif but I am working on it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif . Well ladies, I am looking forward to all the greatness to come. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I posted another vid of my first day practice. I am going to post yesterday’s practice soon.

Unfortunately my editing software is not very good at compressing my vids. I have Adobe Premiere so if anyone has any pointers?? I tried exporting my vid in different formats but it just didn’t work well enough. I am much more used to Final Cut Pro which is my favorite but I don’t have the money to buy it.

I stayed up late last night trying to figure out why I couldn’t post my video. I went into chat room to see if anyone was online to help me on the issue. JayFo was there and was really helpful. So it turned out my video file size was too large. Not having used Windows Movie Maker before, I just went online and did a google to find out how to compress a file. So I finally posted my first video girls https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif ! Let me know when you all post yours…I can’t wait to see them!

Cream, good to hear you did well on your finals. When I was in college, getting good grades was my priority! I’m a perfectionist and wanted nothing but A’s. I went to night school for a few years before I got married and completed my bachelors attending full time. Now I have 2 little ones and have to wait until they are both in kindergarten to go back to school. In the mean time this is my hobby along with photography. Congratulations on your well earned grades! Now you can have some fun with the rest of us!!!
