Thanks for the heads up! I use playtex gentle glides and was considering trying kotex but now that that's come out I think I will stick with my current brand.

I've moved to using a menstrual cup and have been thrilled with it. There are some threads on Studioveena about this if you are interested in finding out more. It's not for everyone, but for me it has meant less fuss, less money wasted on throwaway products, and less impact on the environment; a bonus!

I use a menstrual cup…it is called Diva Cup…LOVE it!!! Can not say how much I love it….you will never use tampons ever again….saves money and easier to use, safer, also less leaks if any…I haven’t had any and been using for years….worth trying it..

You can get them offline..or at natural food/health stores..but I got mine from vitacost.com….I absolutely love it..they are abt $25-30 depending on where you buy it from and replace it abt every 12 months …you can go longer as long as you take care of it and make sure it has no holes…it comes with instructions and will tell you..but it is still cheaper than tampons even if u do replace it every 12 months..they sell soap for it and you boil it after that time to sterilize it…it is great…def worth giving a try…go to divacup.com

    OMG I just had a scare https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pumpkin.gif

I got a 36 count box of the Security kind from Walmart last month and carefully checked the recall chart but thankfully the carton lot number and sku number wasn't listed. THEN I noticed it was only in specific states. Hopefully they'll be more friggin' careful after this >.>

This has me seriously considering changing brands. Thanks for posting the artical, glitterhips https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

Also, I'll have to look into this popular cup thing because now I'm wondering wtf it is exactly, I mean is it something you jimmy right up into there and it fills up like a balloon? I'm sure thats not what it does but thats what came to mind at first. I can't imagine waltzing down the road then it suddenly fills up because …well, that would definitely be an interesting sensation https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif lol

It is what they used to use many years ago before tampons were around…so it has been around for centuries…it looks like a cup made out of latex..u don’t feel it..look it up..u fold it in half and insert just like a tampon and it will open to create suction so it doesn’t come out and no leaks….

Ah ha, very interesting 🙂 Thanks for the explanation. I'll have to try it to see if I like it. Pardon my last reply btw, I have quite the imagination that tends to run a bit whild often lol

You do take them out to empty them and wash and after that time u wash and boil for a few minutes to sanitize and put in a clean bag…I have been using for yrs with no problems….there are several brands out there..I just happen to use the divacup..

My sister uses these cups but i think she also uses one to hold sperm in so that she can try to get pregnant. No local stores around here carry them 🙁 but i might get them offline 🙂 i have endo and polycystic ovarian cysts so tampons sometimes hurt and pads tend to break me out so this sounds great . thanks yall 🙂

hi jennyjenny, I see youre from Fayettville.  I used to be a Dickson, TN girl myself before the travel bug bit me good.  Anyhow, I've got both a lunette cup and a lady cup and I'm just OK with them.  I think they're better than tampons for sure and miles better than pads but I'm still not exactly raving about them.  Once you get them up in there they dont leak unless they overfll but they are a lot less conveniant to change than tampons.  And no matter what people say, I can feel them. I've switched to cups for my last 5 periods and I feel I'm using them right just still not happy.  Now I'm considering getting an IUD and just being done with the whole mess for 5 years.  My 2cents

@ emvivi, you still get ur cycle with an iud..I had one for 4 yrs and had problems, bleeding during intercourse, and still had a cycle..an iud is just a form of birth control, doesn’t do anything for cycle..

And this is yet another reason I am thankfull I am a depo user. Otherwise I would probably be running to make sure I dont have these tampons sense they were for sale in my state.

I’ve tried the cups before and I liked them but I’ve had IUDs for about 6 years and don’t get a cycle any more. So, obviously I don’t need the cups anymore (hooray for Mirena!) but I would still recommend them.

Btw, don’t get an IUD just to stop your cycles. It happens for a lot of women but not all.

    @NorthFLNewbie

It was actually my doctor who suggested I get the IUD to stop my periods because I travel all the time and during the first day of my cycle I often get extremely nauseous.  For a while I was using birth control pills without stopping but then I lost my health insurance and its too expensive.  An IUD in the long run is cheaper.  Also I'm deathly afraid of needles so the depo shot isnt really appealing.

Did you ever try using a cup with the IUD?  Online I read a horror story about a girl who did and had, uh, complications but you cant believe everything you read online for sure!

I actually got the IUD for the same reason. My periods were awful and the PMS was borderline psychosis! But I have heard too many women say that they still got their cycles after having one inserted so I don’t think it should be the main reason for getting one (considering the expense). But that is just my thought on it. I damn sure love mine tho!

I can’t imagine what the horror story could be with a cup and IUD. The IUD is inside your uterus and the cup is not. I’m morbidly curious tho! haha!

Don’t want to hijack but I have an IUD (mirena). It doesn’t completely stop my monthly visitor but they’re a lot lighter and it has the bonus that I can’t forget a pill or whatever.

I’ve also been curious about menstrual cups but have been too much of a scaredy cat to try one plus the one off cost puts me off (silly, I know!). Good to hear that others are using it and their feedback!

I lova love luurrrrvveee my divacup. I acually finally bought it about a year al after years of curiosity because of another thread here about it.

I noticed a few people here saying they don’t work great for you/can feel them/aren’t your favorite thing. I experimented with flipping mine inside out before inserting. It works a lot better on days my cervix is low because it makes it shorter. I also found that the suggested forward placement leaks for me. I have to slide mine up further so it sits around my cervix like a diaphragm/cervical cap. I can kind of feel when it lands in the right spot, then I just run my finger in a circle around the edge to make sure it’s all around my cervix, then I get no leaks and I’m good to go!

Now one of my ovaries isn’t as nice as the other, so approximately every other cycle has heavier bleeding and cramps. I do occasionally use super heavy duty tampons for the first day or two or backup my cup with a liner (not a pad, just a thin liner. Pads be bads.) on those cycles just because I’m changing so frequently.

Where it’s really a godsend is that if I’m expecting my period, I can wear it the whole day before and the day after to catch spotting without worry of TSS like you would have if you were wearing a tamp
