It’s Bringing Sexy Back. Please can you share your tips on being a sexy freestyler?
Posted by Rachel Osborne on July 16, 2014 at 9:00 pmBecause I’m all polite and precise and English and when stressed, go —-> ballet mode and compulsive toe pointing. But I want to channel my inner heel-banging, hip rolling, hair tossing vixen. If not for the general public, at least for my man and tbh, me. Have you any tips on how to let it roll, flow, build and burn up the heat on the pole/floor?
Thank you

Dress up. Do your hair makeup outfit, start by feeling sexy! Then **very important** song choice. Something that makes you feel powerful and confident. Dim the lights , have a drink if you like.. Just one of course 😉 strap on some sexy shoes and move to the music that makes you wanna… Ahem… Dance. Remember you bring the sexy, if it feels good to you do it. The sexiest thing, is someone enjoying the sexy time!

I’ve always loved the sexy and sensual side to pole and I found the best way for me to learn this was to go to pole studios that teach this sexy style.
If your local pole studio offers a lap/strip class, then I highly recommend you take this class. You will learn lots of floorwork, chair moves, striptease, sexy wall work and general dancing, with little pole incorporation. 2 terms ago, I had an instructor bring in some moisturising cream and cheap candles for us to pour on ourselves during a class for a routine!!! Needless to say it was a very HOT routine! 😉 (Haha, the pun!!)
Loved it so much!!
I find I learn best in person, by watching someone else demonstrate for me. Even now, every week when I go to my lap/strip class, I will study my instructor’s every move, paying attention to little subtleties like how her hips move up and down while doing sexy air walks while lying down, to how they roll their heads to ensure a good clean flick of the hair & etc.If you don’t have access to this, then the internet is your best friend! There are loads of sexy dancing on YouTube so jump on and have a look, study and make notes and then try it out!
It is a lot harder than it looks but don’t let that stop you! Keep practising, watch and/or film yourself no matter how ridic you think it is. It will come and will start to feel better and “right” over time!Let us know how you go!

Thanks ladies! I’ve done chair classes for about a year but always to tight choreography never freestyle; I stopped class a few months back, must try again or get my chair out. Problem is I’m happy doing any burlesque or contemporary choreo, using hats, shoes, parasols, scarves, props etc; the problem is my husband isn’t very impressed by my show girl stuff – he thinks it’s cool but not actually a turn on.
I want to do something sexy and sinuous and frankly, stripper-ish – instead of looking like a Broadway audition doing high kicks and flinging my hat and shirt in the air.
Althea is good, do you have any Veena user or youtube inspiration?

Personally I think you answered your own question, Freestyle. Also most professional dancers will tell the moves, costumes, etc. are not as important as always making eye contact.

Besides Alethea, look out for Karol Helms. Especially her “Paint it Black” Performance! And look up Arlene Caffreys Pole Classique at Irish Pole Theater!
For Veena-users, check out Scarletthoney!

Forgot to add, Sarah Jade and Eva Bembo!

Rosanna Danna here is fantastic, love her style. For SURE check out AM Davies — founder of UPA. She positively oozes sex, and I have yet to see a dancer who can grab an entire crowd by the short hairs like she can. Holy. Crap.
Also: Chalese Marie on YouTube, some of the most impressive (and sort of feasible for mere mortals lol) floorwork I’ve seen. Starrgrrrl on YouTube, she wins at pirouettes and twirls, OMG.

Thank you thank you all!
It’s a no pole day for me so guess what I will be avidly watching til bedtime?
Sexy poling video recommendations from you lot!! -
Have you watched Sheila Kelly’s TedTalk about pole dancing? Its been a long time since I’ve seen it but i think she addresses this subject pretty well in it. She talks about discovering her “erotic creature” and it sounds like you might be looking for that creature. Its an excellent talk either way!

Maybe try turning on some music lying on your back with your knees bent and feet on the floor and just try some pelvic tilts/circles and allow yourself to feel the movement. Exaggerate that movement and feel how it flows out to other parts of your body and allow those places to move as they feel the urge to be moved. Change the direction, speed, intensity, or pattern of the pelvic movement and allow your body to ride that wave as it moves through, without judgement or feeling like it should be this way or that. You’ve got the beautiful lines down, you just need to add a little rock n roll to it 🙂

Omg that was SUCH a good talk! Thanks so much (am bit ill so in bed otherwise would do celebration hip circles). Thank you 🙂

One tip I’ve got it to not look at yourself in the mirror, especially when just dancing and freestyling. When you look in the mirror, you focus so much on how you look, but when you dont focus on that, you’ll maybe find the your body rolls are more exaggerated and you sink into your hips more, and you just feel and flow with the music more. I just learned that recently 🙂 and I was much happier with my dance when I was not looking in the mirror than when I was.
Maybe try slow songs, so you can have time to accentuate your curves in body rolls and work it! 😛

Well I had a try at it last night, having done my homework with all your great tips and also this thread recommendation from another forum (tip off via email from a Veena poster)

Had a good old roll about on floor in nice undies and heels and kept tricks minimal but lots of slow spins eye contact and hip dips and circles, leg show stuff and my husband was pleasantly surprised and very complimentary! He is used to me upside down sweating away in sports gear so had no idea I had been studying the sensual side 🙂I will try and make a vid one morning this week to get feedback from you experts at being foxes. Thanks again – not bad for first go!
