  Installing poles on an exposed ceiling?

  Has anyone ever installed permanent poles on a ceiling with exposed steel beams (bar joists)?  The current thought is to run a doubled up wood beam between the two joists and attach them at each end with steel U bolts, then attach the pole to the wood beam (and the floor, of course).  Just wondering if there may be another proven way to do it!
