Infected tatto….
Posted by Lyme Lyte on May 5, 2012 at 7:52 pmI know many Veeners have tatto's. Well, I got one yesterday and it is flaming red, very swollen, and my foot it throbbing. What have you done if this has happened to you? Thanks!

Do a sea salt soak. thats what they told me to do for healing piercings and it should work the same for tattoos. it will help disinfect without drying out your skin

If it is infected, I'd go to a doctor. You don't want it becoming a systemic infection. Is it warm to the touch?
-
I have several tattoos, and this has never happened to me. It could be that your foot skin is sensitive, it could be that the tattooist pushed way too hard with the needle, or it could be that you have an infection. If I were you, I would see a doctor right away. The place did use single-use sterile needles, right?

Yes SM, warm to the touch and swollen. Will go to DR tomorrow……

Sounds infected. If you start seeing red lines running from the tattoo up your leg, then go to the ER, cuz that indicates the infection is spreading.

I've never gotten a tattoo before, but that doesn't sound too good:( Hope everything turns out alright!!<33

Are certain colors more puffy than others? Some people have allergies to certain chemical pigments. But yes, have you doctor take a look to see if it's an infection vs. an allergy.

Lyme, how are you doing today?
Call your tattoo artist to discuss what has happened, they might want to see it.Tattoo artists are not medical personnel that can prescribe treatment so get to your doctor or urgent care for management right away. It could be anything from irritation, allergic reaction or infection. If it is allergic reaction or infection you need medical care asap.
Please post how you are doing later. Sending you well wishes for speedy healing!

Hubby has some strong antibiotics that he never took. I took one last night, one today and it is looking better. Will continue to take abx and monitor. Thanks for all the advice!
-
Ooooh, Lyme! Hope it gets better soon. You don't want to mess around with infections!

I just wanted to tell you this. Different antibiotics are geared towards different bacteria. The stuff your hubby has may not be effective for the bacteria infecting you. There are two types of bacteria (gram positive & gram negative.) What kills a gram positive bacteria may not kill a gram negative and vice versa. It is best to consult your doc so they can give you the appropriate medication.

Hi Lyme, be sure to contact your Tat artist. They can help you with what is normally expected and any care suggestions or if they suggest immediate medical care. Just take care and you better be posting some of those tat pics when you are healed! ; )

Definately don't use the same healing method for a tattoo as piercings! Especially not soaking.
And I would always talk to a tattoo artist be fore the doctor if there is any problems because doctors are very often against tattoos and might give you treatment that could damage the tattoo. The tattoo artist has most definately seen and heard about any problems that you might have and should know what to do or tell you to see a doctor if needed if it's a good artist.
My newest tattoo felt like that for the first day or two. It was in a very sensitive spot in the elbow pit but it is fine. Just felt a lot more sore then my other tattoos for a longer period of time.

It is normal after two days when it is red and painful, swelled and if I understood well it is on your foot or the skin is thiner thus even more painful ……
My tattoo makes 27 thumbs(inches) of top ………………………. it made the meme thing(matter), the reaction normal …………..
You wash everything in daytime has the (warm) water (colder than warm) and with a soap without (perfume) of the kind ivory or dove ………………. normally both first one days you have to put him(her) a small coat(layer) of polysporin ……….. not longer that 2 days ……………………………… and several times a day a good coat(layer) of moisturizing cream without flavor(perfume) for skin in fragile ……. of the aveeno kind(genre);-) and the tour(ballot) is playedsorry for my bad english !!!!

I have several Samoan, Tongan and Native Hawaiian patients who tattoo themselves heavily at home starting adolescence and I think it's beautiful and I believe it is an art form. As a doctor who cares for patients who tattoo often, I have seen maybe more than my share of infected tattoos, hypersensitivities and allergies. The only time I am ever against it is when people recycle needles that have been previously used on someone else, for obvious reasons.
To the OP and everyone else who gets tattoos, I would just like to say that it is unusual for a doctor to be against tattooing in general. Even if your doctor had a personal bias against it, it should not matter if they are professional. I am not sure where EvaRut got the idea that a doctor might prescribe treatment that would ruin a tattoo, but I hope it does not dissuade you from seeking medical help. Honestly, I can't think of a single medication or treatment that would ruin a tattoo. In fact, I can only think of a tattoo getting ruined from scarring from not seeking medical help in time. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
