Oh please don’t feel disheartened!! Keep
Going with it and you will get it. At the start I was in agony, so many blisters on my hands that wouldn’t heal week to week, I couldn’t get the basic invert for nearly 4 months while the rest of
My
Class were flying! I would watch YouTube videos and compare myself
To those girls but keep in mind they have probably been poling quite a while. You will
Get it. Everyone learns at different speeds and paces. It depends on your own strength and body but don’t give up, once you get the pole sit you will feel amazing and it will push you to get more
Moves! 🙂 once you get used to “the burn” then you will be able
To do
More. hope this helped you 🙂 -
Everyone feels like they plateau – even polers who have been doing it for ages. Just keep perfecting what you know and strengthening 🙂 one day you will fall out of a trick and catch yourself in one you’ve been trying to achieve 😉
Remember don’t give up! “A year from today you will wish you had started today.”

Hi RedVelvet! Are you a home poler or do you have a studio you learn from or are you self-taught? Do you have structure to your practices? Also a month is NOT long at all. The first few week should be spend working on strength and conditioning the body anyway so don't be too hard on yourself. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Don’t compare to others, your journey is your journey! Own it! Keep working on it before you know it you will be moving to the next nemesis 🙂 1 month is def not long, keep at it babe!

Keep at it! I've been doing it four years.. Wasn't inverting for a year. Watching videos can be intimidating. Don't let it discourage you. Build at your own pace and you will watch your strength grow over time. You will get better. I promise!

I’ve been poling since March and still suck lol. My classmates seem to be moving up in levels quickly while I’m still stuck in level 2…but…I’m obsessed! Can’t stop, won’t stop! Keep at it, look at your own improvements n be proud of every little accomplishment 🙂

Thanks for the encouragement i feel better and @studioveena i am a home poler that is self taught i will be saving to start taking pole lesson from home and at a studio my bestfriend is a certified pole instuctor but she lives so far its hard to get her to my house to teach me but im really focused on strength for my arms i try not to watch and compare myself to the youtube videos but its so hard sometimes cause i cant wait to do those things like invert omg but my leg just wont seem to go that high right now but im soooooo happy that i found this website cause to know that im not allon and i can voice my concerns and someone that nows what they are talkin bout will help me i SUPER LOVE IT!!!!! Thank you to my fellow polers!!!!!! Also I need a little advise on grip aids any suggestions?

If your saving for lessons i def recommend the $100 lessons here! For a year you get to do all the lessons you want with Veena! I’m def doing it very soon! She is safe and teaches you the correct way to do Pole!

Lots of grip aid choices im using a rosin bag so far happy with it but there are alot of options

Don’t be too hard on your self. If your practicing and training and having fun your being successful ! Hellonheals said it ! This is your journey and no one else’s I recommend tracking your own progress with a journal. Photo. Or video. Then you can be excited of your true progress! And celebrate your! Vicrories 🙂 I am a home poler self tought and felt stuck. Then I found veena and subscribe to the lessons it made a huge difference for me. Being able to learn at your own pace ask questions and get regular suport ! We are always hardest on our selves. But know you are fantastic! And progressing at exactly the pace your body should be! Xox happy poling!

I saw a video of alethea Austin struggling to do twisted grip handsprings! We all start somewhere, and that motivates me to practice practice practice!

I feel you! I was the same way when I was starting out. I actually gave up on pole when I first discovered it because I had no idea what I was doing. Having SV lessons helps but taking classes at a studio are really what helped me. After taking classes for a while it is a lot easier to continue to self taught. If you do take classes be careful. There aren't any instructor standards out there yet and some instructors don't teach safely, with the correct progression, and/or with the correct technique. I'm a total pole DVD junkie now! 🙂 If I had known what I know now, I would have had no problem sticking with pole in the beginning.
I've been poling consistently now since January and I still can't do basic invert. I did have some weight to lose and am continuing to lose weight so that may be part of why I'm not progressing as fast. It was really frustrating for me to go to the studio and watch other girls progress right along while I felt so stuck. Try not to compare yourself to others, it doesn't help. Everyone progresses differently. The most important thing to remember is conditioning! Don't try to skip moves and progress onto harder moves. We learn moves in a specific order for a reason. It may not seem like it at the time, but those spins and simple movements are helping us gain strength! Not only that but if we don't master those fundamentals we will just have to learn them all over again once we invert more and do those same moves up in the air. I have learned from experience that cheating – by kicking into moves, not engaging your core, etc – does you more harm than good. Not only is it unsafe but you're cheating yourself of building the strength that doing – or attempting to do – these moves correctly would give you. Record videos of yourself! It might not be the prettiest to watch but it has helped me with my self taught journey tremendously!
As far as grip aids go… What issues do you have? Is it sweaty hands? Or are you not sticky enough? Everyone has issues gripping in the beginning. We just don't have the hand strength built up yet. Unless you have super sweaty hands, grip aid won't help all that much, you just have to build the strength up. However, if you do have sweaty hands try wiping your hands with alcohol or vinegar when they get sweaty. If you're particularly sweaty that day and that doesn't help try out Dirty Girl Poletice or Tite Grip. You can also use Dry Hands. Mighty Grip is a good alternative to Dry Hands too. I'm a sweaty hands girl and my favorite combination on my sweatiest days is Dirty Girl Poletice with Dry Hands and wiping down the pole with vinegar. If you're not sticky enough try using . There are times where my legs aren't sticky enough and is prefect for that. I've never been a fan of iTac2 but that's because I'm so sweaty that it just balls into a sweaty sticky mess. I've also tried Cramers Firm Grip Spray and that was way to much grip for me. I felt like my skin was going to rip off.
Keep at it! It might feel slow at first but you'll get there!

I agree with the others… It took me two months before I even tried anything other than a spin… Just keep doing what makes you have fun and the strength will come… I feel like I am needing to listen to my own advice as I am typing this LOL … you are probably like me and just don't know how to be patient with your body and want to be pro status like yesterday… I totally understand and the best thing is to go back to the first thing you learned because at one point you were not able to do that either… proves you will do just fine! Stick with it!

Red Velvet, give yourself a break! One month is nothing! I walked and did spins for 3 months before I even thought about going upsidedown. Everyone goes at their own pace. Also, the more you build up your strength and flexibility before trying harder moves, the safer they will be and the faster you will learn them. And don't fall prey to the YouTubeBlues! We are all guilty of this but if you can try not to compare yourself to others you will have more fun. Good luck and happy poling!

OMG!!! I cant say enough how happy I am to have found this site i feel so much better I wish I was home to get on the pole right now man I so feel the love from my fellow polers thanks y'all for all you word of encouragement it really has changed my outlook

Everyone is different… I inverted after 4 pole dancing lessons. I've been poling for probably only a couple of weeks longer than you Red Velvet. I was self teaching for a couple of weeks before I started lessons and I am so happy that I did. It is so much more motivating to dance in a class as it pushes you to work harder, or at least that's how I feel. At home I'm like oh well I can't do it… But in class I'm like let's keep trying!
Also, class is better to remember things like pointing your toes and looking 'pretty' while poling. It's hard to remember all of that on your own.

you've come to the right place. you should definitely look into Veena's lessons, they have helped me ten fold. its really important to make some type of structure for yourself, especially poling alone at home. if anything, really focus on a good warm doing what you like, whether its freestyling, twerking, hula hooping, jogging, etc before pole. and just always remember its not about how many tricks you can, but the quality of the moves. =) skypes with other members are always an option, i really love them because its just like having someone else there with you but just through a computer screen =)
-
I agree with the others. This your journey. We all have things we struggle with more than others. I inverted my second week just to see if I could do it. I made it but it was not pretty. Though inverted moves are easier for me, I struggle with other basic things like pointing my toes. There are a lot of really pretty and challenging moves that do not require inverting (planks, wrist sits, knee release, rainbows, knee release bridge, ballerina, twisted ballerina, etc.). You can do a lot with these kind of moves and solid spins. If you aren’t already work on flowing from one move to another, linking things together. Doing this now will help a lot down the road.

I've been poling as long as you. And I was working on that damn pole sit last night. Got so frustrated I cried. why the hell can't I do this? I didnt think I was in that bad of shape! I see girls do inverts on their first or second class. it makes me sick. but I cant even get a pole sit!!!!! I get frustrated in class because the whole class is moving on with other things and I'm just lost. I bruise within minutes of trying to pole sit , pole climb, pole anything. Terrible, painful bruising and raw skin. I wonder why am I doing this sometimes. Last night I regretted that I bought my pole . why am I doing something that is now making me feel bad about myself. I'm scared that I might be the exception, I might be the one person who doesnt progress no matter how hard I try. Can you tell I am angry ? haha! I am hearing that it gets easier but I'm having a hard time believing it. I'm struggling with you girl! I wanna kick pole sit's a$$!

Please don't give up .. everybody has to go at there own pace, whatever that is! We all have our strengths and you just need to find yours, maybe the pole sit (a good thigh grip) you'll need to work to work on more , maybe you have more upper body strength. Some struggle with the dance part of pole and some can work it … if you really want to keep going just find what your strengths and weaknesses are and maybe go from there .. I hope it works out for you … just remember we all struggled with something : )

RedVelvet- I have been watching Veena's lesson on pole sitting. while I still suck and can only hold it for a split second before I drop and rip my thigh skin, I have found these things are helping some: I tried it from a slightly squatting position, not really a squat but with knees slightly bent, that way I am close to the floor. Lift one leg with pole pretty high up on my thigh, the real meaty part. my whole thigh is pretty meaty but this is higher up. then lift the other leg, crossing one leg over the other. keep your arms locked at almost a 90 degree position like in her video. Tilting my hips!!! this was a big one. tilt toward the crossed leg. this is what helped alot. still, I cant hold it very long and my thighs are so tore up that I wont be able to try for a few days. i take live classes but I feel really left behind. Veena's lessons break it down much better. let's keep each other posted on how we're doing. Give yourself a break if you are sore. you come back stronger with a day or two or longer off the pole. we will conquer this damn thing together!!! 🙂
