I won’t lie, just the thought of a guy poledancing would have made me giggle then puke.I have been on here long enough to see guys like Pat Smack, and the other guy who is handsome with the glasses on,and now I’m not so sure. One of the ladies put up a video of her husband on the pole. From the side he looks shockingly like my boyfriend/lover,but isn’t Asian. Then I saw the Asian guy who looked like Jack Sparrow…l am being swayed. What did you think the first time you ever saw a guy on a pole?Guys, what did you think the first time on the pole?

One of my first pole inspirations was a guy ("Jungle Cat", if you don't know, you better google him. LOL).  There are also a couple guys in my classes.  Although it's not a common sight, I see nothing wrong with it.  I like seeing men on the pole.  They really have the upper body strength for pole that many of us women struggle with.

You should also look up Steven Retchless.  He is amazing as well!

She never said anything about any guy making comments.  She was just wondering what we all thought about guys on the pole.

At first I thouigh it was odd.  My firsts were also JungleCat and Josiah (BadAzz).  Since then I have seen David Owen (stellarmotion), Joel Lessing (poledancefan), and numerous other men on the pole.  There is a studio here in town that is owned by a guy (Jasmine Dragons, which also teaches kids).  Take a look at Remi Martin, Evgeny, Eike VonStuckenbrok, Steven Retchless, Dominic Lacasse, Timber Brown, Vladimir Karachunov, Carlos Franca…oh my, the list goes on forever.  We even have a guy here on SV who is a featured blogger (Bob Zamora).  It really is not so uncommon any more.

A couple of vids of Vladimir Karachunov and some others of the male australian pole dancer at pole divas were among the first pole videos I saw, so I got used to it from the start.

I think it is with guys on poles like with girls cutting their hair short – you think it sounds strange but just until you see it.

Being a guy who pole dances, I will say that you defenitly get hit with the stereotyping, stigma's, misconceptions, and other negatives very quickly as do women. Some people are just set in a line of thinking that guys and girls are only allowed to do x y and z. An even with that allowance it is always something to come along with that x y and z, when we actually go and try it.   I have been called alot of names lately after expressing how serious I am about becoming a PoleFessional. Depending on where you live (like where I am)  there is little to no support, or classes available for a guy wanting to venture into aerial arts so it was like running in the dark when I first got into pole dance.I knew I was going somewhere but i had no idea where. Some forms of dance are marketed as a quote on quote not a "Man" thing to do so it get's very little exposure and is always weird at first to see. Now after realizing that skin and skin training was a big key to holding myself in various positions I did take a step outside the box by watching myself  in my practice clips and I will admit that if your not into pole dance/fitness you'd probably be weirded out about the rolled up shorts and men exploring/expressing sensuality through this style of movement.  I am glad that StudioVeena.com is here to help us all  break through the social norms and see that pole dance, pole fitness, arieal arts, and the sensuality gained is for everyone. Everyone here is super supportive and that keeps me motivated and inspired to get better and better. Also I stand firm on the benefits from this and I make sure that when someone say's something out of line about me and pole dancing on other social networking sites that I don't attack them, but ensure that the other people reading it will see the positves about pole dance and what it can do for them as well.

Jungle cat, Vladimir, Steven Rech, , Rodney James, and many more of these guys are awesome. I like the personality Vladmir puts in his videos, the passion and androgyny steven puts in his work, I love Rodney's Chair work omg it's pheonomenal, its aggessive and yet sexy in the end, and Jungle cat is just fearless in studio sessions.

I think it’s hot!! Go look up some videos of men doing Chinese pole, it seems to be more popular with the dudes.
My partner is really good at it. He has an old elbow injury that bothers him so he is unable to pole as often as he’d like. He got the brass monkey on his first go!

Men have the upper body strength for pole! Many varied forms of pole around the world (Mallakamb, Chinese pole) are actually male-dominated. I do admit it took me awhile to get used to it and many of the moves such as spins seem feminine. Check Duncan West out. He makes it sexy and masculine! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzUcwW2X72A

I agree, Irmingard, I had to get used to the idea of men poling. But once I saw that pole dancing for men is just as dynamic and can also be done in so many ways I was hooked! Plus it didn't hurt to watch a video of Steven Retchless's amazing performance at Boston Ballroom that teapartie showed me 😉 Keep it up Patsmack and all the other guys! I'm sure as pole fitness grows more boyfriends, brothers, husbands, dads will get in on it and it will get easier on you. Untill then you've got support from all your Veeners 🙂

I WISH my man would pole with me!! He played football in college and is in great shape (kind of looks like JungleCat actually) and the couple times I've gotten him on the pole he was phenominal!! I would love to do a doubles routine with him (or just pole jam).  Here and there I show him some of the guys on here, and he's impressed….I think he wants to, he's just battling his ego lol. I don't plan on giving up though!

Wonder if when a guy tells someone he pole dances, they immediately think he’s a chipndales dancer?

My boyf is a poler – I took him along to an open night at my studio one time and I could see him eyeing up the pole so encouraged him to give it a go. A couple of years down the track and he loves it as much as I do! He's performed in shows and is looking at entering one of the national comps next year. I can vouch first hand that the boy's got some serious muscle going now! I also know a couple of other guys that go to one of my studios and my class at the other studio I go to has at least 3 boys in it at the mo'. Pole for boys is definitely fluourishing in my city! In some ways I find the vast range of kinds of boy poling (ie how they choose to do it) to be more interesting than the range of girls!

fyi Trixie, I asked him about the Chippendales thing and he said no, 'cos he's not pretty enough:)

We've got three guys at our studio currently (and a fourth scheduled to come in this weekend!).  I'm excited to get men interested in pole as an aerial art and help to break the stereotypes!

My bf, who also happens to be my personal trainer and ex-military, just started poling. He trained me for months specifically for pole work and became so impressed with the amount of strength and endurance pole requires, that he couldn't resist. And he is one ripped guy! His work binder is now plastered with Bad Kitty stickers, and I regularly hear him defending pole to the ignorant. Watching him and practicing with him are both really fun and funny. I love guys poling and think it definitely helps fight the stigma.

I've showed my husband how to do a few spins (fireman and front hook I thnk ) and I admit I have to suppress laughter. He's 6'2" and 280lbs and honestly not in the best shape, so to see someone his size twirling around a pole… well, it's funny.

Like if Zach Galifinakis took up poling. 🙂

He's too heavy to use the at-home pole safely, and I haven't been able to get him into a studio yet. He's pretty supportive of me and a little curious about pole, but not curious enough that he's dying to learn it.

At first, I thought it was silly — but then I saw Joel Lessing, and came to know David C Owen, and then see the first set of guys who were competing … that cured my silly prejudice!

I'd never really seen guys pole dancing til I saw the Mr Pole Fitness UK contest before Miss Pole Dance UK this year & my jaw was constantly on the floor, their strength and grace was amazing (and their bodies were pretty easy on the eye too https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif). Nico Modestine (the winner) was breathtaking, hope I can get to see more male performers soon.

On the boyfriend front, well, mine had a go at a fireman spin but jumped forward into it and nearly whacked his gigglybits on the pole…he's not a convert at all unfortunately!

Jungle cat was amazing thank you for sharing!!.   Men bring a whole new concept to poling if you ask me.  Although it took a while to get used to the idea, lol  Watching men perform has brought my personal idea of poling to new levels.  My bf plays on the pole and has watched many men perform with me, he prefers the grace of a woman rather then a powering performance by a man…. I have saved the video of Jungle Cat so that he can see a man with more grace then many women ive seen.

My man can shouldermount just based on pure upper body strength.  Don't think I'll ever really get him into the dancing side of it though.  🙂

When I got into pole fitness, my man started getting into bodyweight fitness and flexibility. It's very gymnastics inspired. He's been learning arm balances and working on pull ups and squats, and soon plans to install a set of gymnastics rings in our garage! I don't think he's interested in being a pole dancer himself, but he does use my pole for some exercises. It's been a fun journey together. We actually look at Veena's videos together, particularly for flexibility and strength, and share tips and ideas.

probably not the dance aspect but its so much fun that we lift together and use other work out apperatusus' together!  They respect the strength and control it takes to pole if they play on it a little.  Its great doing it and learning to be stronger and more confident together

I started out just trying the fitness part for something different. At the end of my first lesson my teacher at the time asked me if I wanted to freestyle dance. I've been hooked on the dance part ever since. I have done both solo and partnered pole dance with another woman who has a classical ballet background. All of the women that I have danced with have been very supportive and some think men who pole dance are sexy. I have honestly never had a bad reaction from any women with the exception of my nieces and sister in law. Even my mom and dad are ok with it. My wife has attended every showcase that I have danced in.

I love it. Nothing could make me quit.

The first real pole competition I ever witnessed in person, consisted of five men and five women competing.  The gender who managed to elicit the loudest audience response, from a crowd dominated by female attendees, was none other than the men.

Haha!  My husband got on the pole ONCE.  When we first set it up, he had to test it first to make sure it was sturdy.  He did a couple spins and then he kicked up into an invert like it was nothing!  It was pretty funny actually, since my husband is 6' tall 260lbs (teddy bear build).  It totally reminded me of that episode of King of Queens where Carrie bought a pole for their bedroom and Doug showed her how to do a "proper" pole dance on it (here's the scene I'm talking about:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQbczjAZ_fE).  LOL.

But seriously, I was super jealous because it took me months to be able to invert and he did it on his first try.  Not fair.
