    Hi!!!!

I've seen some absolutely great advice given on this forum and I'm a bit stuck myself so I thought I'd put my dilemma out there see if anyone has any tips…

I took pole dancing classes once a week for two years two years ago and I have had a pole again now for a few months. The problem is I have gotten a lot weaker and am overweight and very out of shape at the moment. I go to the gym quite a bit now and I have a dietitian to get back healthy again but my pole is awful! I can barely do anything I used to be able to and it takes so much out of me… and my god it hurts now!!! Should I start doing easy things every day or once a week or something or should I push on through with advanced moves that hurt now so I get stronger? Any gym exercises I can do to build up my poling muscles?

    Thanks for any tips!!

I don't think you should move to the advanced move rightnow if you're just back. You might have the technique but not the strenght and you might hurt yourself badly if you are pushing too much on your muscles. I think you need to get a bit stronger and start again from the begining, doing push-ups and cruches (or you can bring your knee to your chest several times, like you do when you work on your inverted V/chopper) and pole hold.

I don't know if you have veena's lessons but in the beginner part there are plenty of exercices that are good to build up your strenght.

Hi lemoni, I am sorry that you are feeling blue over pole. I know exactly how you feel. I just had a baby 13 weeks ago and my body completely changed. I lost all of my weight besides 5 pounds but my body's composition completely changed.(although I admit I LOVE my booty now- have a lot to shake lol!)

Anyway, I took about 20 weeks off of pole. I went back at the end of February and I have been doing 1-2x per week of pole, w/ this past week 3x. I try to stretch when I can too. I lost most of my upper body strength so doing some of the things I used to is on hold until I gain the strength.I am even learning how to climb all over! I was at the spinning climb before and now I am a newbie climb all over again. I can't do sliding pole holds(barely) and certain tricks I NEED spotting for but were my easy signature moves before. BUT I have to admit I LOVE learning it all over. I get to see what my body could do and I have a new appreciation for every move that I could do before and for what I am doing now. I am not going to push myself to a point that I will hurt myself. I also am listening to my body. I am eating well and sleeping A LOT.( I am also breastfeeding so eating enough to work out and feed my baby is essential.) Please don't feel bad for where you are now. You will gain it back in no time. I am already getting certain moves back quickly. Don't worry, you'll be even better than your old self in no time!

Sending you all of the best.
