Have you ever done it with someone holding your feet? You have to have a seriously solid aerial shoulder mount, be able to get your crotch to the pole and pike and then have a strong back to arch yourself up.
-
i was thinking about doing it from the middle of the pole first and having someone holding my feet. then i was gonna do an inverted sit to get into it. i can do a shoulder mount from the floor. doubt i could do it from the middle of the pole 🙁 do u think it would be possible getting into it from the way i described it? my legs and back are pretty strong, so i think i would have a decent chance

You really need to go up and over and the only way I know how to do that is with a shoulder mount. When you use a regular invert you are going to have issues getting your body twisted to the front of the pole and possibly even getting the proper body positioning to have your feet locked. I have never seen anyone do this from any other way than a shoulder mount.

Uh yeah. What Chem said. No seriously I've tried it that way and it didn't work, the only way I could get into it was ariel shoulder mount.
-
I could be wrong but I think Kobajo has a video of herself doing it from a chopper but I have tried that way and it didn't work at all!
-
Robyn tried it from the basic invert but it didn't work very well for her:
most do it from the SM. The problem is you need a lot of flexibility to circle your legs around into position without pushing yourself further away from the ceiling. The more hip flexibility you have the flatter you will be to the ceiling.
One way to practic is near the floor, having someone hold your crossed feet down behind you…so that their hands are acting like the ceiling.
My best advice is have a spotter and crash mat! 😉

Sorry…forgot you already addressed holding the feet as a method when I came back to post after looking for that vid!

yeah i just watched a few videos.,.. def gonna have to work on that ariel shoulder mounthttps://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif thanks ladies, you have prevented me from getting any broken bones

The queen of this move by far is probably Pantera (at least in my opinion). She does it in about every one of her videos. If you really want to be freaked out, look for the Texas competition ones where she performs (I think Miss Texas Pole Star). She does a death lay on a tin ceiling at about 20 feet in the air!!
-
yes must hav a strong back for this one, strong legs, and strong aeriAl sm!!
-
my shoulder mount is solid, now i have to work on ariel sm. how the hell do i ever start to work on that?
-
MissMonte, practice coming to the side of the pole in baseball grip and do fan kicks to work up your strength on the side of the pole or pencil hold.
-
I do have to admit that this is the ONE move that I DON'T want to learn! I am super scared of that move…one slip and ummmmmm….I'd do she aerial SM no problem….but the death lay….I think there is a reason that
-
they call it that…wacky computer. don't know why it took three posts to say that lol
-
@missmonte: To try an aerial shoulder mount, you can side climb up the pole (just a single step the first time), then turn your back to the pole while holding on over your head with your hands. You should now be facing away from the pole, but still holding on with your legs. Then shouldermount.
Just fyi: I worked on my aerial shouldermount for a long time before I did the death lay. I'm now comfortable doing three aerial shouldermounts in a row, but I still find it wacky and scary getting into the death lay-it's hard to do the shouldermount tight enough to get your legs close enough to the ceiling to have a really good counterbalance. So don't worry if it takes a while to get there!
-
2 other things that will help….shoulder mounting from sitting on the floor (do not use the floor to push off with your butt) and going into a SM stalll and then into a SM. SM stall is basically just getting your feet off the floor in SM grip and holding it there; once you are stalled try getting into SM.

i have a tutorial on the deathlay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjdmWAgMlcA
My pole is top-loading, so I don´t get close to the ceiling. I also do it from a chopper, but you can see that I´m even further away.
It´s also possible from a superman, but the problem is the same as with the chopper: a bit further away.
I learned my Aerial Shoulder Mount, just by trying again and again until I had the strength. I think it´s easier from a superman, because you have a bit more momentum.
I would first learn it from the floor withour momentum, then from superman and then from other poses like Figurehead. Practicing from sitting is others suggested is also a good exercise and you can slowly place your hands higher

ladies ty all so much! i'm getting ready for class and i cant wait to use ur tips!
-
how was your class? and how far did you get with the air sm or even deathlay?
-
I looked at this thread because i am working on ariel shoulder mount, its soo hard. I
have a strong SM, just find it hard working on it ariel as my figure head is rubbish..
-
you can also practice it from the floor. just pull your feet off the ground (like hangman)
-
@emotioncatcher. omg it was like learning the sm all over again! i can get myself into it from a sideways climb. but i drop down so far when i go to sm. i still get my legs halway up so its a good start to me!
