Im on my sixth lesson now and I can master some really good moves! The only thing that gets me is bring both my feet of the floor without being hooked. I can climb easily as I’m hooked and then move into sitting on the pole. I cannot just jump Into a seated position, this is the same for anymore that involves taking both feet of the ground without being secure. This is just one example, My mind is just screaming oh do it already. ideas or move ideas that help me get over this annoying fear? Charlotte! X

    Hi Charlotte πŸ™‚
I am happy to hear how much you are enjoying your new pole journey. Sounds like you’re having fun! I may not be the best one to give advice on this matter (since I love being upside down, hanging by just a foot) but I’d say work up to it. Work your upper body strength, so that you’ll feel more comfortable with letting your legs off the pole (since you’ll feel sturdy when taking your legs off).

Also, a crash mat could help. That way if you fall, at least you’ll hit something cushy at the bottom. Once you get your upper body strength up and you feel comfortable with letting go of the pole with your legs, then do it.
I’d say don’t rush into it, you’ve got this long pole journey ahead of you. Try not to think of it as being up high– if you feel comfortable, have someone spot you. That may help with the fear of falling as well.

Like I said, not sure I am the best at giving this sort of advice, but I hope it helps a little. Welcome to the community, Charlotte (what a great name)
    xx Milla

Thankyou so much for your advice! I love the idea of hanging upside down and flying around, it’s really difficult to explain it’s like my feet/legs have magnets and one of them have to be connected to the pole or floor at all times, I can’t have both in the air or doing a jump, I’m keeping with it and trying to improve the upper strengths with weight and pull up training and I can notice a small difference. Loving this site and sharing my pole journey :)! X

    Oh you’re welcome πŸ™‚ I try to help if I can. πŸ™‚
I am pretty sure I was like that at the beginning too though. It just takes time to get comfortable with having both legs off the pole. What move are you trying to get into? Or are you just talking about jumping into a pole sit?
Great job with working on the upper strengths, I am sure in no time, you’ll see a big difference, and one day it’ll come really natural.
Lol, it feels like your legs have magnets because it’s not really instinct to just let go with your legs, haha.
We’re glad to have you here :)xx

Charlotte do you know the name of the move you are jumping into? In general as a beginning dancer jumping into something isn’t suggested. Are you inverting (hips flip up over head? or just trying to climb up the pole?

    The photo is an invert

At the moment it’s general fear of having both feet of the ground to get Into the move, for example jumping into the sit, although I can climb and adjust into to a sit because I’m hooked going Into the climb. at the moment I have been leaning back to be vertical but haven’t been brave enough to do upside down like in that photo as I feel I need to improve my strength to reassure my self I won’t fall, once I’m stuck to the pole I’m quite happy to let go and let the pole do the work. In no way should a beginner be inverting πŸ™‚ I was just trying to understand what you are doing. You should not be jumping into a pole sit either, I would suggest working on pole holds, this will allow you to build up strength so you can support your body weight allowing you to lift your legs up as slowly as you like 😊
