I find this thread very funny!!! I guess you must all have very big xmas trees…here they are small and made of plastic so I don't think I could split on it (:

I have my first set of pics posted (from 2 weeks ago) and I'm closer than I thought!

Doing some more stretching today and taking another set of pics!
-
Wow you’re so close to getting those splits! I am miles away from mine but i’ve always really wanted to get them so i think ill give this a try! 🙂
-
Thanks CdoubleU! Although these are the first pics I've taken, this isn't really my "starting point". I started to train my flexibility a little last winter and more seriously this summer. Seeing these pictures was quite a shock even to me, I had no idea how close I was to my middles!
-
So… I said I would do this and as yet I haven’t done any stretching :-/
-
Yeah…so i havent started yet…sigh. But i’m still in this!
-
Calipolepixie- I am totally in the same boat. I just moved! It's taking a while to settle in again. But… I'll get there!
Maybe I'll have birthday splits instead of christmas splits… but I'm still gonna try for christmas!

I'm in on this! Have researched several new methods involving small balls and therabands…. never a better chance to put them to the test, while also getting to know my peers!

PINTEREST HAS GREAT WORKOUT ROUTINES I HEAR. I STARTED LAST NIGHT.

Hi I am very new to this, a girlfriend and I just took our very first lesson lastnight at SpinFire Pole Fitness in Jasper Ontario with Sarah and loved it. I have been looking for something to call my own and really get into and I think I have found this in pole dancing. Silly really to say just after one lesson lol. I would like to take this challenge to but if someone can make some suggestions on how to acheive this what exercises or stretches to work and loosen the muscles
Thanks Michelle https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

It really depends on the splits you are trying to acheive, but generally speaking, anything you can do to loosen your hip flexors and stretch your hamstrings is good. Pigeon pose is pretty handy, as is a good ol' jazz split.
I'm pretty decent at my side splits, but am currently trying to get a solid middle split. One method i've been using for the middle splits (which seems to be working), is using ankle weights on both ankles and sliding my butt to the wall . I'd only recommend doing this after some light cardio (so you're warm), and i wouldn't go higher than 2 1/2 lbs per ankle…. gravity seems to be doing the rest, but it's still a process.
Also, try holding a low horse stance for a little longer each day: this will work your inner thigh and hip flexors. Good luck Michelle!

Working on warming up now and stretching in maybe 30-45 min. Anyone that wants to feel free to join in on chat 🙂

I've added my current splits to my photos on here. Feel free to give any advice! I'd LIKE to have a middle spit by then.. but not convinced. I'm not sure if my joints will let me, to be honest!

Need advice!
I've been working on my flexibility about twice a week. Last week I had a really nice stretch session and got to where I can hold my foot with my arms overhead (don't know what this is called) and also did a coccoon (with a heel cheat, but still better than I ever expected.) Yet, I'm still struggling with a few inches to my right side box split and several inches for my left.I have always had somewhat tight hamstrings but what seems to be the most constricting (painful even) area when I'm trying to get into my stretch is the tendon on the back of my ankle (achilles) it feels so tight! I've point and flex while stretching and attempting the splits hoping to loosen it up but to no avail, it just stays so tight and causes a weird sensation and my front foot even shakes vigorously while stretching it? Does anyone have advice on this?!
Thanks!

My friend had that problem and she literally had to wrap her ankle with a heating pad and she would do the normal point, flex, side to side, around in a circle motions to loosen it up. it took some time though, but she would do it every day, twice if she could, but you know life is going on and sometimes you can't do twice a day. Maybe that could work for you. O and I would try wearing socks that covers your ankle. Your ankle needs to stay warm, you may also need anklebraces too. Definitely go see your doctor to make sure.
Congrats on your achievements and good luck on the rest of your goals.

Christmas tree splits huh? Well my apartment is small so I normally get those little Rosemary trees, so I'll try that. However I don't put mine up until Christmas Eve. It is a tradition that my mom did with us and then it just stuck. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Hope you all are stretching hard and feeling good! Had an unexpectedly good stretching session yesterday and updated my pics including my best middles to date!!! Oh yeah baby!

I was really just doing maintenance because I was sore from gymnastics the night before. Spend 2 full hours including foam rolling and stretching. Turned out well, glad I took the time to do it. 🙂

I'm trrryyyiiinng! Pictures will come soon, when I can get my stretching to happen at the same time that boyfriend is home 😉

Alright so i started stretching last week & got in 3 days worth & my goodness do i have my work cut out for me. I’m going to shoot for 2-3 days this week. I will take pics of each side starting point this weekend as well as measure how far i am from floor & i think take new pics & measurements every 2 weeks to try & document improvement. Hopefully ill keep up w/it! Here we go!

il defo be up for this. 🙂 r we startin it now? or ?? xxx

You can start whenever you want, the idea is just to motivate ourselves to work on our flexibility. I've worked on flexibility on and off for years, more consistently in the last year or so, and hard core for my 2012 Christmas Splits since about the middle of August!
Remember it's not a competition, and you don't have to super flexible to try it. Set a more realistic goal if you have to, or just aim to see how close you can get!
