    Hi guys,

So I was taught a few ariel combos in my last pole dancing lesson.  I'm really struggling to hold one move let alone two…or three! I don't know if it's the lack of strength and my hand keeps sliding down the pole which doesn't help.

I was taught to go into the butterfly in either split grip or twisty grip then to the extended butterfly and then to straight edge.  I can't even get past the butterfly to execute the next two moves because by then my hands have slid onto the floor or i can feel my upper body slowy tilt away from the pole.  My leg doesn't seem to be holding me in place either and I was told by my instructor that I tend to turn towards the side and arch my head and back when doing this.  Does anyone have any suggestions or how to improve/stay on longer so I can execute the other two moves in the sequence?

My other combo was the shooting star to the falling star and then to scorpio.  I can just about get to the falling star then I start sliding towards the floor. I have no idea what to do to improve the grip and the pain is excrutiating!  does anyone have any suggestions with this move too? It's so frustrating to do things half way and then be unable to finish it!

Any help welcome and much appreciated! xxx

I would suggest maybe practicing each move by itself first and making sure you are comfortable holding each move (each part of the combo) for ~ 5 seconds+.  Then try just one move into the second move.  And then add the 3rd move when you are comfortable with doing the first 2 moves in succession.

Just probably how i would go about doing it!

I agree with holding the moves

I have done the combo u speak of…. I started holding my extended butterfly as long as I could…. Aka until all the blood rushed to my head.. Haha…. I would try to get to a count of 30… I felt super comfortable with the butterfly doing this

Once I was comfortable with the first move I would do move 1 then move 2 and hold as long as possible… I would continue in this way…. I felt like I was building my endurance and comfort level with each move

My other thought is that if you are starting from the basic butterfly….. When you extend out make sure you are pulling your body away from the pole… If your body if too close.. Gravity is just pulling u straight down… The more you extend out the more gravity isn’t being placed right over your hands and you shouldn’t slide so easily

    Hi guys,

Thanks for your tips and ideas.  It's very much appreciated 🙂

I was told by my pole teacher that I tend to arch my back and head instead of keeping my chest and face aligned with the pole and my hips leaning away from it.  I find it quite an awkward position and upper arm is trapped… so I think I might need a bit more direction on this move!

For the falling star, I have not idea if it's the pain inbetween my thighs but I tend to slide off the pole with that move too. That is equally as frustrating!! 🙁
