Any “plus size” polers here? Who makes cute workout clothes/shorts that cover a BOOTY?
Posted by Karley Branam on October 9, 2014 at 11:13 amI dont really consider myself the typical “plus size” body type, I consider myself a little thick. anyone here a size 12 or larger and have any tips since im new to pole fitness? what clothing brands make comfortable cute stuff to work out in that isnt tailored to very thin women?

I’m in this really weird stage with my weight right now. Since I got married, I’ve put on like 40 pounds. I’m tall though- i’m right at 5’9. I went shopping a few weeks ago because I remembered I needed jeans for this cold weather we’ve been getting. I tried on all sorts of brands, all different sizes. I tried 10, 12, 14, 16… Nothing worked. It made me a little disappointed because I was really hoping to get some jeans. It’s like if they actually did zip, my thighs would be trying to burst through and they’d be too short. So it’s frustrating. Sorry for that tangent, but I needed to tell someone this!
As far as pole shorts, I’ve been wearing soffee’s (not sure that’s spelled right) and just short gym shorts. I haven’t had the opportunity to really buy pole shorts yet. I wish I could help more with this. If you figure something out, let me know. I’d be interested in getting some new pole clothes maybe for Christmas 🙂 -
im in the same boat! when i turned 22/23 my body started changing. i dont drink sweet tea, soda, diet soda, i dont even drink juice or milk. i dont eat fast food (every once in a blue moon) and somehow ive gained about 25 lbs or so. theyve tested my thyroid, i have a lot of female issues with ovarian cysts. so idk if its just my hormones or im jsut changing but i need to tone up!!

Yeah. It’s like when you’re happy you just wanna eat, ya know? lol. But I’m doing a lot better since I started pole. I drink more water too. I don’t drink sodas or tea. I’ll get one occasionally but I usually prefer juices and water. I drink milk too. I’ve gotta get off the fast food train. We’ve been doing better about it. We treat ourselves like once a week, usually on the weekends and we’ll go to town and try to find some neat place we’ve never eaten at before. It’s nice and a lot of fun that way.
Ugh, I wish I only gained 25 pounds! I was in denial for the longest time! But now, it’s like yeah, I gained 40 pounds. A lot of people say that I look better this way, lol. But for me it’s not about losing the weight, I just want my body to be tight and toned. It would be nice to lose twenty to thirty pounds, but even if I don’t, I just wanna be fit, ya know?
Oh no, my identical triplet has ovarian cysts. I hope to goodness I don’t get them. I’m sorry to hear that. It could def be your hormones. I started taking birth control when the weight gain started. So I think that has a lot to do with the weight gain.
I’m glad I’m not the only one in the boat! It’s really nice to have someone to talk to and who can relate.
We can support each other through our own journeys and process. 🙂 -
i friend requested you! yea, i eat better than i used to, thats for sure. maybe its just my body changing. i get my pole this weekend and ill start stretching…im pretty stiff…ive never done any sort of pole work!!
-
The request hasn’t gone through yet, so I sent you one too just in case.
Yeah, the body changes as we get older I suppose. But we can totally achieve what we want 🙂
That’s awesome, let me know when you get your pole! I try to stretch everyday, but it doesn’t always happen. I wish I was more flexy than I am but it’ll come in time.
I never did pole work at all before I started in March of this year. I don’t have any dance experience and the only sport I ever played in high school was volleyball. So don’t feel too discouraged.
You can check out my videos. I try to document my progress as I go. -
Hi guys, checking in with you. I have a big butt-my measurements are 37-29-40! So shorts that cover the cheeks make me feel more comfortable. I started out just rolling up loose pants 🙁 But then I found a pair of Danskin shorts at Wal-Mart for about $7 each, XL. They are a little shorter than biker shorts, so you can roll them up as high as you need to and they don’t make your thigh flesh look like a muffin top, upside down. Also, they can be high waisted if you like, so you don’t have a muffin top, up top!
Once my Danskin shorts got faded and stretched out, I explored MMA shorts. Got them off Amazon, look up WOD shorts for women. Again XL. They come in colors, are shorter than the Danskin, more durable, and yes, more expensive (about $20 each). But, I love them! I still roll them up a little bit, now that I’m doing thigh holds and such. As I’ve gotten leaner, and lost weight (more on that later), I’ve still been able to wear these shorts, but they are gapping a tad, where my belly and booty stretched the material. I’ve also gotten nice gear from Bebe Sport and Zumba Wear, believe it or not. If you want me to post pics of some of these shorts and outfits, LMK, I would be more than happy too. As a larger sized girl, I have had to search for things that are cute and sexy yet functional, and feel that I have done a good job in this area.

thank you!! ill go to walmart tomrrow and look at the danskin stuff!!! we have a similar build, my waist is a little larger though, we probably wear similar sizes

Great ideas, club dynasty. i’ve bought a pair of the Danskin shorts at Walmart. would you mind posting a few pics of the other brands of shorts you mentioned?

Target has a line called Gilligan OMalley or something like that and they have boyshorts that for rather nicely. They come in different colors at different times of the year and are very stretchy but stay put when I am poling. I have recently found amb dance wear side tie shorts that are pretty amazing too. They are a one size deal and they look small but they are amazingly stretchy but don’t create muffin top. The target shorts I think are 2 for $10 and I think the amb ones are $15.
