40mm or Fly Gym
Posted by hookedonpole on December 27, 2012 at 11:38 pmOkay, so my husband wanted to get me an Ipad Mini for Christmas. He waited too late to look into it and it wasn't available in time. He gave me the money for one, our son surprised us and gave us each a little chunk of $$. I never really looked into an Ipad for myself and am still deciding to get one or not. However, with the $$ from hubby and son, I can get a 40mm pole! I have not tried one yet and wish I could. Also, I would like it in titan gold, but not available. Will it be available in titan gold eventually.
I have a 45mm chrome and titan gold. I didn't like the chrome at first, so bought tita gold. I did use the chrome quite a bit and just put up the titan gold due to cold weather making chrome too slippery. I figure if I get a 40mm, I'd like to go straight to titan gold.
Anyone, other than veena used a 40mm? I saw veena's post on a video about a 40mm, and curious about others input.
BUT, I also see how many are liking their Fly Gym and wondering about that????

I am loving my 38 for the size, but the brass is very temperamental with grip issues. Flygym looks fun!

What is the main difference between Omni and Fly? Could you use a Fly with an Omni Stand (that stand looks like it rocks lol!)
-
I have a 40mm chrome and I have ordered the onmi gym (stand and swing.) If you order the stand with the swing, it's a little cheaper than buying separate pieces, so if you want the stand, just get the onmi swing too. I have the stand, but the swing hasn't arrived yet. I can write about my thoughts on it when it comes.
The 40 is a nice intermediate between the 45 and 38. I can do some things easier on the 45 than the 38 and vice versa. The one move I am afraid to do on a 38 is an eg aysha, but can bust it out on a 45. I still feel semi comfortable with it on the 40.
The onmi gym and fly gym are pretty much the same thing…
No, x pole does not plan on offering the 40 in TG or SS (I asked them several times.)
IMO, go with the yoga hammock. You already have a pole that works, and you can use it (I'm assuming), but you do not have a yoga hammock.

I would go with a yoga hammock 🙂 I bought mine from aerial empowerment online. She was having a sale a few months ago and is a sv member so you may want to see if she is still having a sale.

I ordered the grip spray ingredients I have from aerial empowerment, love it and Hope is soooo nice. Is that the contact gal? Yoga Hammock, can it be used for same things fly gym is used for, whatever that is LOL I just hear how people love it (fly gym).

I think the flygym and omni gym have more uses since you have those handles and the hammock.
-
I Googled Aerial Empowerment and the site popped right up. I was wondering if the yoga hammock is all you really need, and if all the handles and grips and foot slings with the "gym" ones are just extraneous. But some of the poses and things I see on the gym ones seem like you could never get that from a straight hammock. When people first said Yoga Hammock, I was JUST looking at Omni because they call it the Original Yoga Hammock lol.

Here is Alethea using her fly gym: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CntSRxBPdvE

I wanted my hammock for stretching and didn’t like all the extra thing hanging off the other options. I’m a simple gal lol. Yes it’s Hope I ordered from.

Anyone have experience with the omni, fly and aerial empowerment hammock? I was going to purchase a flygym because that's the only one I'd ever heard of until I found this forum string (LOVE this site). I was also drawn to the flygym because it says you can use it to spot yourself on the pole. But, now that I'm reading about the three of them, I'd like something to help with my TIGHT shoulders, back and hips. I'd appreciate any relevant experiences you ladies may have with any of the three, or all, of these apparatuses (sp?).

I have the omni gym! I love it! I think they are all similar to each other! I have had it about a month or so and I can see improvements in my shoulders, back, hips, and legs! Also it is helping with my handstands!!
-
I do use the extra handles, but if you don’t want to use them, they come off very easy! :))
-
Yes! I LOVE the stand! I use it with the swing! I can’t wait for the warm weather because I’m taking that thing outside! They do take payments! That’s the only way I could get mine!

@valeria98 One more question (I promise)…does Omni Gym have any manuals or vids to follow? I notice Flygym offers manuals, trainings, etc. I ask because I am definitely the visual type when it comes to learning 😉 Thanks so much for all of your input!

I will put one up of me playing arounf on mine. This video is about the 2nd week I had mine. I wanted to record it so I could see progress. While you wait here are some links fot the omni gym!
-
Vdub, if you search yoga swing on youtube you will come across a TON of videos.
-
Hey chemmie, yes I searched and found a ton. It's easy for me to sit on youtube for HOURS so just wondering if anyone knows of someone that offers good instructional vids so I don't have to sift through them all. Haven't seen you in awhile 😉 Hope all is well and Happy New Year too you and your hubby.

I have the Fly Gym, I think its personal choice in the end.. Fly ym has extra handles which are good for a variety of moves, than just having the swing part. As for the Pole size I have 40mm brushed brass Xpole Its a bitch for grip, really only gets in on humid days however I like the diameter for some moves . My titanium 45mm is still the best overall!!

I have been on a 40mm and would never buy one personally. Too small for my hands and for my legs. Didn't like it at all. But my fingers touch around a 50mm. I have a hammock and a fly gym. I would never use the hammock for help with pole moves, not enough stretch to it. But it really boils down to personal preference. I just need to learn to do more with my fly gym.
-
I would go with a true aerial hammock – you can do almost everything that you can do with the Fly Gym but if you start getting into aerial work you can actually Do hammock with it vs a Fly Gym which you cannot – hammock is so cool 🙂

Thanks for all the replies. I would only consider a 40mm if it came in titan gold which doesn't sound like it's going to happen. Plus would want to pole on one to see what it's like. I'm very thin and don't have much between the legs for thigh holds, etc and would worry about not having enough to hang on with.
Boy, it is personal preferance for fly gym, omni, or yoga hammocks. I don't have space in the house for the omni, looks like it takes a lot of space. I say I won't get into aerial work, but got to play on silks one time and loved it! I was considering fly gym for workouts, stretching, etc. But goes back to space, the room I have my pole in is kinda small and don't know if I have enough space to hang fly gym up without being in the way of my pole.
Decisions, decisions and I am terrible at decisions. Glad this thread is helpful to others who had questions.
