2012 March Challenge
Posted by Veena on March 1, 2012 at 8:14 amThe March challenge will be RAINBOWS https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
This challenge is a bit different, and I hope you all don't mind.
Let me quickly explain, my oldest sister passed away 2 years ago in March, she loved rainbows and anytime I see one I always think of her! Rainbows are a happy, comforting, beautiful thing to me. What's YOUR rainbow, what does this symbol mean to you? When you see a rainbow how does it make you feel……. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
I'm trying to leave this is open to interpretation, but if you need idea's feel free to ask.

Hey Veena! This sounds great!!! Can you describe what the rainbow pose is? Is it like a bridge? I know every move has so many names.
-
Oh I think I get it now. Actual rainbows!!! Ok. I see. This one will bring out some creativity!
-
lol yes, rainbows not any particular dance pose, but…if you wanted you could use a pose, like a bridge, to symbolize a rainbow I suppose!
-
There is a move called Rainbw on Pole Dance Dictionary.
http://poledancedictionary.com/moves/289/rainbow/
It is like a cross-knee release where you hold on to your crossed foot and drop the straight leg so it's no longer pressing against the crossed leg. I did it in my last practice video, if you have a good CKR it's actually pretty easy!

Awe Veena, this is so special. I have yet to see a Rainbow since my fathers death a few weeks back. But I have seen other "signs" of him. Waiting to see my first Rainbow, it will make me cry.
-
What a wonderful challenge Veena! I’m a little stumped lol but I will think of something 🙂

Sounds great! Makes me wish I could do a "rainbow marchenko", but I doubt that's going to happen in my natural lifetime. http://poledancedictionary.com/moves/333/rainbow-marchenko/

I just thought of the perfect thing for this, but sadly I can't show it to you. Here is the story:
My boyfriend and I made a rainbow light-up pole last summer.
Basically, it was a steel pole with a steel spiral wrapped around it, light-up el wire wound in the spaces of the spiral (red-orange-yellow-green-blue), and then a clear, polycarbonate case. The crowning achievement was that my boyfriend figured out what was needed to wire the lights so that the pole could spin while the lights were on. (think: an electrical connector that works like a headphone jack- you can rotate the jack around without severing the connection) Anyway, we took this gorgeous creation and it's stage all the way across the country to Burning Man, where it was subsequently ruined within a day. Some big dudes thought it was fun to see how fast they could get it going, and somehow managed to *bend* the entire pole- even though my boyfriend had run computer simulations of the physical forces when designing it, to make sure it would withstand abuse. It was sad, and neither of us has gotten up the nerve to fix the darn thing yet- I don't think either of us wants to relive the disappointment. I'm going to post the only photos I have of it now, if you want to see.

I love it…and I love that you have such a happy memory related to your sister. *hugs*

Wow Elekta!! Thank you for sharing those photos!!!! It made me smile! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

My pleasure! I'm just thrilled to have found this site. At least the stage came out OK, so now when we have parties I just put my X-pole up there- it wasn't a total loss.
One more thing – at Burning Man the pole was on the main drag, in front of another art installation that was a color-changing wall of lights. I swear everytime we came back to camp there was a different group of drunk/high idiots who thought they were controlling the light wall's color changing effects by twirling the pole around. It was a huge joke by the end of the week!

this makes me think of my grandmother. everytime she saw a rainbow she started to sing her favorite song. i can’t do much on the pole but i think ill try just so everyone can hear her song.
-
You should do it Betsyevil, we would love to hear the song!
-
Veena what was her favorite song, or type of music, movie whatever? Would love to pay homage to your sister. Any information would be lovely.
-
That's very sweet of you PlatinumAni! I don't know that she had a favorite song, but she did like The Carpenters, she like Joni Eareckson Tada as well. My sister had a lot of health issues, so I think she could relate to Joni's and Karen's story's. But I would rather not think about those times. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif
I like to think of the happy memories with my sister…Pam was 18 yrs older, and took care of me a lot when I was little. She was very much like a 2nd mom to me as a kid. She let me stay in her apartment, in town, for weeks at a time, when I was just out of high school. I was still living at home, on the farm outside town, and she let me stay with her, so I could be closer to my boyfriend (webmaster)!! She even made us a romantic dinner or 2. Pam loved to do things for others and enjoyed making plastic canvas crafts for the family. Yarn and plastic canvas was everywhere…. oh and stuffed bears. She loved her stuffed bears! lol Every holiday Pam would send small gifts for my boys, her nieces and nephews were super important to her.
She was always willing to do anything for her little sister. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

She sounds like she was a lovely sister. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
Thanks for the additional information. 🙂 I love your rainbow profile pic by the way, beautiful!

March is also a time to celebrate St Patrick's Day. The ol "pot of gold" at the end of a rainbow could be some fun inspiration too! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

This is an interesting challenge, I am in South Africa and it is known as the Rainbow Nation! I think I will have a lot of fun with this one mixing it up with African style music! Time to play.
-
I'm so sorry to hear about your sister, but what a lovely idea for March's challenge :-)0
Here is my first go at a challenge! xx

Rainbows have a shape like a frown. And when I was younger i use to think this. That they are so beauitful and make so many ppl happy, it prob turns those frowns upside down hahaha. Was cheesy when I was younger but thats what they reminded me of.

Well, we lost mom-in-law less than 2 weeks ago now so I can understand your pain about your sister….and although I am still hobbling about I may just have to give this one a try…obviously it won't be spinning and holds unless I want to break my other hip…lol so I may have to improvise….hugs
