Anyone have a link that explains the difference between Dubstep and other types of synthesised music?

CapFeb- usually you can determine Dubstep by it's excessive use of Wubwubs, and sounding generally like Drum and Bass slowed down, with almost no good climax.
    I mean.. what?

    I suppose there are a couple of songs I have that border on Dubstep that I could tolerate Oo;

What happens if you simply find it impossible to listen to this type of music?  Sounds extreme but it totally tries my patience! lolol

Dance to something with a similar beat and slap a sound track over it.

Echo, I suggest you try one of the subgenres of dubstep, called "chillstep" in some circles.

My husband LOVES dubstep but his favorite kind is the really hard, aggressive, loud stuff, which gets on my nerves pretty quickly. It can be an assault on the ears.

But through him I've discovered some other, "lighter" dubstep. Less noise, more flow. Here are some of my favorites.

"Summit" by Skrillex ft. Ellie Goulding
"With You Friends" by Skrillex – the Long Drive remix is great
    "Timestretch" by Bassnectar
    "Drippin" by Mimosa
Anything by Blackmill – check out his YouTube channel, BlackmillMusic. I could dance to his music all day
Most music by the duo PANTyRAiD is also pretty chill – they have a nice hip-hop influence.

I'm really excited to do this challenge and will probably dance to something from the above selection myself.

Also, if anyone's on Pandora, I have a pretty awesome Chillstep station I can share with you. I often have it on in the background when I practice at home.

Also if you search on dubstep here on teh forum you will find lots of music suggestions and also lots of videos that have already been done to dub.

I love Promises by Nero/Skrillex, Eyes on Fire- Zeds Dead, and Massive Attack – Paradise Circus Zeds Dead. I seem to like a lot of Flux Pavillion remixes, too as I have a bunch of them downloaded. I have linked a post by Alethea in the past and I will see if I can find it again.  During Bring Back Sexy week she was looking to dance to dub and there were a TON of really good sexy suggestions.

Dubstep has many criteria, and there are variations. In general, it’s drum and bass with a slowed tempo, a certain time signature, a bass drop, and the presence of the wub-wub sound effect. Anything beyond those basics is a matter of style and preference. Some purists may argue the details – like if it’s bass-heavy but no drop, it’s technically not dubstep- but whatever. I say it’s all good.

More dubstep challenges please! Let’s see one to some Pantyraid! Super sexy dubstep… try “Like That” or “Crunkalicious”. You won’t be sorry! 😉

I agree with MORE dubstep challenges. Maybe a chill step challenge and sexy dubstep like Danielle said. I have my song for the Dec challenge. I was going to record it today. I got the dirtiest gutter dubstep I could find. I hope my next recording session goes better than today's. I had an issue with packing tape and my iphone. LOL! Long story…. Danielle probably knows what I mean though.

Why have more dubstep challenges when you can just use dubstep for any challenge that isn't music genre specific?  Dubstep challenges just make me not want to participate in them.  I'm sure there are some songs out there that I could tolerate but I don't really have the time to spend looking for them….it's hard enough to find time to shoot the video!
