Before I start throwing out my unsavory opinion… and I know it’s unsavory. But it’s mine. My opinion. If you don’t feel it applies, apply your own.
A lot of us doing pole dance are.. doing the craft equivalent of art. We’re making things by directions, painting by the numbers, cookie cutter couldn’t tell us apart. It doesn’t matter, because we love pole dancing! YEAH. So who cares if we’re doing the same damned moves to Closer and Eyes on Fire and Buttons and Glorybox. It’s fulfilling like most crafts are, serves a purpose, and allows for a limited form of expression.
Another bunch of us are apprenticing under masters… we haven’t quite worked out our style yet- but we’re learning under some serious pole artists. We have every intention of being a pole artist- maybe not of our own style, but of that master’s style? Or maybe we may just surpass our master in glory! Nietzsche to their Schopenhauer. Plato to Socrates. Felix to Bobbi.
Then another bunch of us know DAMN well how to craft, and have maybe apprenticed under someone, or came up with some wacky stuff by ourselves. We are Picasso, defying a past of classical art to create something new. Or Oona, reinventing how pole should be seen because she can. Testing limits and seeing what can be done and not caring who likes it or how it’s received because it’s art and it must be done!
This guy complaining that authentic pole dance… is a dying art?! He’s saying in his own creepy way that it is art! Real genuine art with people who have a genre/era/classification preference! We have someone protecting the classic forms! Someone to be offended when it’s done differently. You need that guy!
We have people who are like, "Oh no, it needs to be done THIS WAY", and that’s great too! ‘Cause then we have resisting movements to create new things and have everything fade in and out.
We have pole snobs. Need them too! Aaah! aficionados! can’t watch your video unless you have a a straight edge- can’t respect your art unless you have a perfect sense of perspective.
Passing phases.
Aaaah! Is it just me or does all this sound glorious?!
Music fits, too! we have a GENUINE art form. That guy is just another person we need- the guy who’s like, "Man, music just isn’t how it was in the 70s."
aaaaah! EXCITING.
That’s my take on it! Crafters. Apprentices. Masters. Innovators. Spectators. Snobs. Purists. GLORIOUS.
