Your favourite combos
Posted by miss fern on January 5, 2009 at 9:54 amHey girls!
I am always interested in discovering new ways to link moves together. Spinning moves or upside down poses – whatever. What are your favourite combos?
I like going from seated lady into (what we call) a backwards snowflake. Basically you spin around the the pole, inside hand gripping high up, outside hand gripping the pole around chest height – and your legs tucked up as if you are sitting on a chair. Then you release your outside hand, and your body continues to spin around, you change your leg postion to be similiar to the corkscrew, and grab the pole with your outside (and currently free) hand BEHIND you. I hope that made sense.
I also love the "double tart" which is a forwards tart (or forwards knee spin) into a backwards tart (or back knee spin). You basically flip around in the middle of the move, and hook on with your opposite knee — so you’re still spinning the same direction, but are FACING the other direction.
What are your favourite trick combos?

I love combos! Can’t wait to see everybodys favorites I like doing the pencil spin (on spinny) and than wrapping my legs around the pole so I’m in position to do thigh hold release and then sit up into wrist seat it’s fun and pretty on spinny https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/bom.gif

i love doing the pencil mount, then pulling myself up into the pole sit, leaning back into the plank, then all the way backwards into the inverted thigh hold, slide down a bit into an inverted handstand and then i forget the name of it but you link one ankle on the pole while allowing your entire body and other leg to lean to the opposite of the pole. actually then if you’re not exhausted by then you could pull yourself back up into the pole sit and just slide down. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_santa.gif (i know its not christmas anymore but he’s just such a cute smiley!)

I think the handstand thing you mentioned Taylor is the half bow and arrow.
What is the pencil spin? Is it just what it sounds like – you hold on the pole about shoulder height, and spin round with your legs dangling in straight line, parallel to the pole?
If so – I do that combo into the pole sit too – except I split my legs like a starfish – I think it looks prettier https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
I also like to do that move into the Fireman, too, the one where you grab the pole between your knees aka Lollipop to some people I think. And then from that into Pike (which is sitting on the pole, with straight legs, and spinning round). And then from THAT into Scissors — if you have any spin left haha!

Deleted UserJanuary 7, 2009 at 1:48 pmahh! you’re right geogia, it is the half bow and arrow! the move you’re describing is a move that ive heard called the "pole wrap", but as you lift yourself up and spin around the pole, you bend your outside leg and point your toes…..the pencil mount is on page 8 (i just looked it up) of veena’s videos; really cool move. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cool.gif
your combo sounds so pretty!! i wish taht there were a standard set of names for these moves though- like your lollipop is my straight leg fireman, and veena’s pinwheel knee spin is my sunwheel spin…. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

I’m loving a funky spin combo I call "there and back again" which is carousel into reverse grab back into carousel. I also adore one handed carousel into reverse grab, it flows so nicely.
Moves combos would have to be marksman into brass monkey, it’s not a pretty one but it’s pretty much the only way I can solidly get into a brass monkey 100% of the time

You basically end up upside down with your body to one side of the pole and hook with your inside leg. Here’s a vid of the transition, though it’s not the best angle
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i20/loopylolacherrycola/th_MVI_1269.jpg
There are tons of other ways to get into it, straight edge, jacknife, shoulder mount, flag invert. It can also be done from a basic invert but looks very messy and can be actually slightly more difficult than from some of the other moves because of the amount of adjusting that has to be done.
Edit: That’s a slightly better angle, and I go into Eros at the end, but I am wearing cheaty boots

wow! that was impressive https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif i have been stuggling to learn this move https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif I’m actually trying to learn that I think it’s called the reverse aysha https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_question.gif (the mount you used to get into brass monkey)
I would also like to learn brass monkey, but haven’t learned straight edge or "reverse aysha" I can do shoulder mount, but not sure how I’d get into Brass Monkey that way the move I really want to get is straight edge, as you can get into many diffrent move once that’s mastered https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_batman.gif
I don’t have anyone to spot me (BF is usually at work or sleeping when I have time to get on pole) so am a little hesitant to try some moves I haven’t ever had someone spot me, and have taught myself most of what I know from watching you tube videos, and now using the on-line lessons, but some moves make me feel if I dont get it right first try I’m going to land right on my head! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif any advice about how to safely as possible learn this move ( the most secure hand placement ect) would be greatly appreciated https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif how long have you been poling? March will make a year for me. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif -

you’ve been poling a year poles? that’s awesome. im at my 10 month mark i think! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_blackeye.gif

March 8th will be a year I can’t wait to make an anniversary video It feels to have learned so much in this time it has really made me appreciate my body even more than I already did I think it’s ability to learn, adapt, heal, ect is amazing I think pole dancing has made me more aware of how I treat my body as well i’m slowly learning to love stretching and breathing and although i’m always going to be a girl who loves pizza and choclate, i do think twice before eating food that isn’t fairly healthy
I did come up with a new combo (or atleast new for/to me) I started by inverting on the left side of the pole, going into crucifix, scorpio, (by bringing body to right side of pole) THAN the chopper (which most of time when try the regular way i either have to hook my leg quick or come crashing right back down) but my hands aren’t wrapped around the way they would be in regular chopper they look like the way Veena and alot of others grip when going into shoulder mount more cupping than gripping i spun around a little like that ( in chopper position was on spinny mode ) then into gemini, then down to floor
i thought i was taping all of this when i did it well dead battery ruined that plan, but it felt really easy to do so will do on first vid i post https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif -
Pole-twista, I call your reverse aysha a split v. It’s a fairly good move and easy to go into marksman if the entire lower forearm is braced against the pole. I found that the easiest way to get into brass monkey because I found the grip easy to balance. I can straight edge but it hurts my supporting wrist so I don’t tend to do it. For trying out brass monkey safely, try from a handstand on the floor. Make sure the handstand is slightly to the side of the pole, hook the leg (make sure the pole is right into the back of the knee) and if you like, cross the free leg over the one hooked on the pole to secure it. Then bend your arms to lower your weight. It’s a good way to get the feel of the move while still being low.
Taylor, I love my camera, it’s a Canon Ixus 860. It’s currently a bit poorly though as odd lines have appeared on the screen

although i’m always going to be a girl who loves pizza and choclate, i do think twice before eating food that isn’t fairly healthy
lol oh not me!!! i eat whatever i want, actually just ate like 7 cookies; i definitely need to start eating better, i bet it’d make a difference with energy and stuff on the pole too -
Oh believe me I’m not the girl picking at a salad at a restaraunt i like to eat basically i eat what i want (no matter what it is) in small portions ( usually https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif ) and take me out to eat after a night of dancing and it can get intense https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif lol
well i mentioned this on a diffrent post but i found a combo that allows me to hand in chopper positon (sometimes i can, but mostly i can’t)
i invert into crucifix, move to side of pole so am in scorpio positon, cup (i cup, not grip, the pole in the hand position Veena uses for shoulder mount, and drop legs into chopper position hope this wasn’t too confusing https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif much easier for me to show than explain will def. use that move in first video so you can see what i mean https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Hello everyone, nice topic, and its interesting to read about everyone’s favorites! Theres too many possibilities as far as combos that I like, so I’m really undecided….I love the combo in this video at 2:50 (superman w/ undulations, leading to starfish, flatline, and exiting with inverted V legs. It’s a tough one! I’m still working on a sexy undulation and that transition from the flatline to V legs. I LOVE IT!!!

omg Taylor too funny you sound like me i’ll be so good about what i eat all week, than come the weekend it’s like i grow an extra stomach to accomadate extra everything cookies/chips/huge cups of coffee milk ( i think i was born with an extra compartment for pizza) now in the summer i can basically get away with it as am alot more active and am happy with a healthy, not stick thin, shape, but over my vacation/holidays got in the habit of waking up at like 2am (prob cause am used to working 3rd shift) and making gooey peanut butter and jeely sandwiches can’t imagine how i gained 10lbs???… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif lol no biggi i’ll be back to normal in no time have a big night out planned for a few weeks from now so have a little extra motivation to work out https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif
ya know speaking of sucky practice sessions the last 1 i did started so bad i was thinking maybe i should just give up on this pole stuff for awhile (temporary insanity https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_viking.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_compress.gif ) i was like "thank GOD" for my friends at the studio https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif i was so frustrated and just couldn’t seem to do anything right than i stepped back and thought about how i would talk to a friend ( i would never talk to a friend the way i talk to myself sometimes can be very self critical, yet am very supportive/encouraging with others) i reminded myself how hard i have worked, how far i have come, the moves i have learned in just the last month ect basically a good pep talk after that i wasn’t really trying anything special i just had fun i ended up coming up with that combo that allows me to get into and stay in chopper position, plus got the split heel move don’t lose heart i’m sure your next practice will ba amazing! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif

Oooh, nice find! I’ve seen Alena Downs do the superman to flatline combo, but it was a really fast flip into it. Although I loved it I got the feeling I’d die if I ever attempted it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif That vid slows it down a lot more and I think it could actually be possible now hehe

ahhh! that’s too funny, i think a lot of women can relate. im a grad student right now, so that means my diet is absolutely horrendous. ill have a hot dog for breakfast, coffee for lunch and donuts for dinner. thank god for dancing! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
poles, or do you want me to call you by your real name?? ive been there too- i have the bad habit of comparing myself to everyone better than me and im like, "waah! i’ll never be as good as them!!!" but then i think about how far ive come (exactly like you said) and so you keep pluggin’ away.

oh i know cant wait for new pole to come in and get set up won’t have much room to swing, but can atleast jump on whenever i want https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif right now it’s a good hour to heat up the attic enough that it’s not totally freezing https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_smurfin.gif
no i think i’ll stay mysterious atleast name wise https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_batman.gif like Veena, I have a "pole name" which is Camila it’s one of the first things i read when i found that pole dancing book pick a "stage name" it’s like an alter ego so you can be whatever you want to be cause your just this character you create innocent girl next door? brooding and mysterious? girly girl? it’s just fun thats another reason i would like to start looking fo rsome pole clothes things other than just shorts and tanks when we had a party on halloween it was so much fun dancing in our costumes it’s just like wearing heels or using low lights it just adds something to it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_king.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_queen.gif

Deleted UserJanuary 13, 2009 at 3:18 pmby the time your attic heats up you probably aren’t in the mood to dance anymore!!!! well, thats an assumption, but i know thats how it would be for me!
i like the name camila for a stage name. i really really wish i could change my name on this site to my stagename, sascha.
thats so cool about halloween, that sounds like so much fun!

ya alot of times i get in the mood to pole, but by the time it’s warm enough i’m usually not feeling it anymore
https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif most of the time watching videos on here helps to re-motivate myself, https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif but not always https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_neutral.gif will be easier once new pole comes wont have nearly enough room to do almost any spins, but can atleast kkep up strength by climbing and inversions without an hour prep time https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gifcan’t you change the name? if not (but i think you can) I will start refering to you as sascha i like it i think it sounds sassy https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/bom.gif
ya halloween was fun wish there was more pole parties happening just not enough girls intrested funny enough guys seem to enjoy jumping on the pole more than the girls probably bc they are not as self-concious girls get pretty down on themselves pretty quick for not being able to learn a move 2 times after trying it guys just jump on and swing and have fun (atleast with the people i know) i was trying to get the instructor from RI to come to the house for a pole party she comes to your house and teaches people at party how to do duffrent things depending on their level of skill at the time) but it’s not cheap and would need enough people to chip in to make it affordable and fun o’well if i ever decide to move, am going to check out what the polings like in area before making anything final!! lol https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Deleted UserJanuary 15, 2009 at 2:09 amyay! i changed my name to my pole name https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Sascha wouldn’t work, so I had to use SaschaPoles, but my stage name is Sascha https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif thanks so much poles, im thrilled right now!!
ya halloween was fun wish there was more pole parties happening just not enough girls intrested funny enough guys seem to enjoy jumping on the pole more than the girls i completely agree with that. my sisters wouldn’t go near the pole after i went on it, but my brother and dad were having a blast with it on spin mode https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
that’d be cool if you moved to a place that had a studio you could go to https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

so just thought i would try to get this going again. i like right now doing CKR, wrist seat, ariel invert-gemini, starfish, superman.
i also like i also like crucifix, catipillar, scorpio, chopper, into floor split. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif
-
Lola, that was amazing!! Very cool combo!!
I too, love the advanced plank to CAR to bow and arrow (more before I fell out of it, lol). For spins, I’m working on the carousel to boomerang, doing it slowly and sexily which is really HARD, but really pretty, so worth it! I’ve got to try that chair to snowflake thingy, georgiamarie, that sounds really gorgeous!!! -
pole-twista that sounds awesome! not sure I’d be able to do an arial invert from a wrist seat (at least not neatly https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
my all time favourite combo of spins is carousel – reverse grab – chair – backwards chair – floater/some variation (eg matrix or pinwheel legs positioning)
the chair – backwards chair in the middle gives it soo much spin as does going straight to reverse grab (i cant get a fast spin when i do carousel)my fav static is inverted crucifix – extended thigh hold – extended butterfly – flatline scorpio. Although now I think iv cracked the aysha/straight edge I will have to find a combo to include them https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
