I’m in a mild panic about moving in the next week or so and losing my 10-foot ceiling. Moving to a condo with an 8 foot ceiling which my pole won’t fit. The potential room for a pole isn’t huge and, of course, there is a light fixture smack dab in the middle of the ceiling. I can buy a new pole, of course, though I’m considering finding out what it costs to vault or tray the ceiling (I’m sure a lot). What have you all done about light fixtures where your pole needs to go? I feel like I need as much room as possible to not be kicking walls so I really want the pole in the center. Thoughts? I’m dreading not having a pole for who knows how long. I just feel like only so much can be accomplished at the studio in a class.

I’ve just taken down the fixture and put the pole where I want. Pole trumps light LOL. You can just use a floor lamp if you need lighting.

Congrats on the move! Well if you are vaulting or traying the ceiling the light fixture is not an issue.. you can just do like 4 recessed lights vs the one central fixture. Once they are ripping apart the ceiling moving the lights is not a big deal. Id say to get an estimate, What is above you? Attic space… Do you have a garage? Do you need a garage? I’m going to be turning my garage into a pole space… (going slow, its happening at the same time we are redoing parts of our house, and permits and architect BS had seriously held me up) But I’ve been researching flooring and stuff… Missy (I can tag you to her insta) has an awesome garage studio, and it inspired me. My current short home pole (8.5ft) is a pain and so is the proximity to the walls, but it still beats not having a pole at home.

also a swag light fixture is an easy way to move a fixture… https://i.pinimg.com/564x/55/f0/9a/55f09a61a87e0d3f28c7abbc271c11b5–diy-kitchens-dream-kitchens.jpg

Just need to not make the swag part so swoopy, and more tight to the ceiling 🙂

Thanks, ladies. There is a garage (not heated) but we’re park in the garage folks, particularly in cold Ohio winters.
As for the light, I’m picturing a big hole in the ceiling underneath that light fixture but perhaps not. Do I just take down the light and put the pole wherever the nearest stud is?

As far as possibly vaulting the ceiling there is a little bit of attic up there and my dad did say it needs to be rafters not trusses in order to be vaulted or perhaps to not cost a fortune to be vaulted. It is rafters but I’m sure it’s still going to be expensive. Convincing my husband this is necessary will be the real trick. I’ve been so spoiled with my ten foot ceiling. There is a 17 foot ceiling in the living room but I don’t think there would be room to pole without moving every stick of furniture as it’s not a big room and the expense of a 17′ pole appears to be substantial.

    Sigh.

But is that safe? I mean, if you remove the fixture and there are still power cords there? And the pole is metal???

We had a ceiling fan with light in my pole room. Took that out, like Veena said, pole trumps light! The hole was perfect for my pole, the stuff was right there. I put white Xmas around the floor and it provides plenty of light. If you look at my IG you can see. Oh wait, I have like 6 posts 😛 lol. I’ll send some pics tomorrow

You cap off the wires and they make covers that you put over the electrical hole. I’ve had to do this in almost every space I’ve had lol
