What’s your most recent pole victory?
Posted by kittyface on May 4, 2015 at 4:03 amThis last week I got a trick that I’ve been admiring and wanting for aaaages, and that made me want to start a thread for us to share victories – little or big – that we’ve had recently. Did something new? Finally got your nemesis trick? Tell us! 😀
I’ve been obsessing over trying to get a consistent shoulder mount recently, and I assumed it would be at least a few months before I would be able to do an elbow grip Ayesha, so it really wasn’t on my radar at all. Last night, though, I was doing a bunch of caterpillar climbs and felt super secure in my strength and my elbow grip, so I decided to just go for it. And I got it! I got freaked out and didn’t really hold it the first time, but the second time I held it for a few seconds, and the third time I held it for about ten seconds before grabbing the pole with my legs again.
I can’t wait to show my instructors when I go in for class this week! I seriously thought I would have to build muscle and condition my elbows for months before I had a prayer of doing this trick, I guess I didn’t know my own strength 🙂

That sounds awesome!! I love those moments 😀
The EG Aysha is such a great, impressive trick – your instructor will be very proud of you!
My last trick i achieved was a no handed jade – thought this trick would take me longer, but i nailed it the first time i tried. It´s just a matter of balance 🙂

No handed Jade? How does that go?
I haven’t had any victories in ages. I’m pretty much stuck. -
Recent victory would be freestyling for the first time in 3 years. I was never the type to “let loose” or be remotely sexy in the studio and simply refused to ever do freestyles. Now that I am a home poler, I turned up some tunes and just danced around. It felt amazing! My 7yr old daughter joined me and we were giggling up a storm. I can’t do anything “amazing” like I use to (yet!) but I feel less awkward and “in my head” now.
Nemisis? Shoulder mount. I use to be able to do it flawlessly. Freakin effortlessly. Now most of my strength is gone so I have to work that all up again. Even my Inverted V’s aren’t as fluid as they use to be. So really I’m back to the beginning with all my strength moves.

A no handed Jade looks like this:
I find it very difficult to get the split really flat, while you have to balance your weight!
Don´t say, you’re stuck.. there is always progress, with every time you train you become more fluent und graceful!

I have been working on handstands for a while i have finally mastered doing one against my pole. 🙂 the other day i was able to climb the pole a bit and place both hands on the pole and did my first invert. It scared the crap out of me!!! I have only done it twice since then cuz im working on making myself stronger but it was such an awesome feeling

Not a massive victory but Im getting used to pole sits and can stay sitting up there for for around a minute now. Also a week ago I climbed to the top of my pole. Wasn’t an elegant climb but I done it. I felt so proud after I could of cried lol.

These are all great! My most recent victory is my pole studio. Since the start of the year my classes have really taken off and I’m teaching 5 or 6 classes a week now. 😆

I got my handspring the other week after working on it for almost two years!! That was a huge victory for me, especially after coming back from a broken wrist! After having so much time off I’ve lost a lot of strength and moves that were once easy for me (caterpillar etc) are now really difficult, so it feels so good to accomplish a new move!
BabyDragon – the EG Ayesha is seriously impressive – well done!!
Love this idea for a thread! -
Three weeks ago, a straight leg handspring directly into pencil. I was so excited to get it (a little messily) on the first try. But then when we switched to my weak side, I widened my grip last minute, went up too fast to be in time with the music, and had my bottom hand slip. I landed on my feet, but twisted a back muscle on the way down. Haven’t been able to pole since. I look forward to trying it again whenever these injuries (now I sprained my AC joint too!) heal up.

My most recent pole victory is a chopper, which I very much wanted to do. My instructor is pretty impressed with our class, since this is a move she expects to take time. We are intermediate polers and can do basic inverts and are working on basic planks and wrist sits (no problem for me). We just tried what our instructor calls the pole pounce (it seems to look like the caterpillar), and I’m not strong enough for that yet, but I hope it will be a future victory!

I just learned how to slip down between the thighs in superman (my body sticks to the pole like glue) and that has been a huge victory for me! Now I can flip my grip to be the proper one and pull myself back to the pole for aerial shoulder mounts and, possibly, titanic! So excited!

Just done my elbowstand my first day of trying. Couldn’t even do that as a kid. Love the way Veena teaches things 🙂

With my instructor’s help, I finally got over my nerves/lack of confidence and got a shoulder V 🙂 One of these days I’ll get his crazy shoulder-hop-up-the-pole trick =P
In general, I’m really starting to feel confident in my own strength, and capable of seeing myself learning the advanced tricks that I want to learn. Even if it is in months or years for a lot of them, it’s not a generic, vaguely hopeless “someday” anymore 🙂
I love all of these!

Twisted shoulder mount flip to sad girl drop…although its still a bit of a hit and miss at this point.

I lost my cartwheel mount a little while ago but got it back fast. However l had my handspring from Jan-March and just got it back a few hours ago yayyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!

A full pole sit. Its not much but was a big deal to me and I’ve finally conquered that monster!

Love this thread! I just tried no hands jade for the first time this week and got it. Also managed to get into inverted bird of paradise split which I didn’t think I was going to get just yet (!!!! Super goal move !!!!). Got foot to head in kind pigeon that night too on both sides and today decided to quick try side saddle superman just for the hell of it and got that. Yay! Great work, ladies 💗

Oh my god! You got bird of paradise!!! That’s amazing!! I’m sometimes working on that one too. Getting that bottom elbow around the pole is the hardest part for me right now. Can’t get it around the pole but I feel I’m relatively close
-
Phoenix Hunter, I should actually say I don’t quite have bird of paradise yet. I managed to get into it but it was definitely a struggle — and I only held it for like 2 seconds because once you unhook that top leg, it is VERY intense on the mid-upper back. I will feel I “have” this move when I can actually enter/exit with fluidity and grace! Still, it WAS a huge pole victory for me, and I’m proud of it, so I wanted to share it on this thread! I have a good amount of strength and flexibility but fluidity is definitely my biggest and most difficult seeming goals right now. Practice, practice, practice…(and good restorative rest). 💜

That is a big accomplishment to even be able to get into the pose even if for a few seconds!!! Good job!
