40mm or 45mm?
Posted by blondebird on February 4, 2013 at 2:15 pmHi Veena’s!
It’s time for a new chrome x-pole (xpert) 🙂 However unsure whether to buy a 40mm or 45mm? Help! I have a 50mm Chrome.Dancing Paws replied 12 years, 11 months ago 11 Members · 34 Replies -

I started with a 50 chrome and I know have a 40 chrome. I love it! I could’ve probably gone with the 45 which is more standard, but I don’t compete or anything so it’s not of importance to me. My hands are freakishly small and don’t wrap around a 45 so that’s why I went with the 40. Is there a 45 or 40 you could play around with near you?

Honesltly it's really preference. I like the 40 and 45 for different reasons.

Thanks for replying 🙂 I think I'm going to go for the 40mm! x

i'm going to tell you this: all the strength stuff you do that involves any kind of hand grip– if it's all on a 50 now, you are going to get on a 40 and go, WTF THIS IS SO EASY.
I was astounded the first time that i did a phoenix on a 40. it's a huge difference.

Thanks Amy. I’ve only been on a 50mm (my own) and some grips like the true grip, I can’t get my hand fully round so I thought 40mm would be such a better grip? Only thing is how is it for leg hangs? eg Gemini, Inverted thigh holds, Scorpio? Thanks

I was a little worried about thigh and knee and armpit holds, etc. I kept hearing how difficult they were on a 45 and a 40. However, it is absolutely no different for me. The only weirdness I still have from my 40 is a basic invert. I have no idea why. Climbing feels normal, knee pit holds, CAR feels normal. But when I do a basic invert, I feel like I’m having to work extra hard to hold it. But I guess with more practice, it will feel normal one day. I don’t know if its because I have a small stature or what…but I really feel like its a better fit for my body type.

I didn’t know whether me being really slim would cause a problem on a 40mm, e.g in a crucifix, hope I don’t slip down!

I love my 45. soooo much. i started on a 50 but the 45 just feels so much better. I have a 40 but have not yet tried it out yet. u girls are getting me excited about it! lol

crucifix and planks are the main things that are harder on a 40. You jus thave to squeeze more. I think you'll be fine though, you're really strong.

You’ll adjust to leg hangs quickly. The nice thing about a thinner pole is it forces you to perfect your technique for things like jades. I don’t know why people worry so much about the transfer- it will only make you better at the things that are harder on them!!

I am no expert here, but hand grips are easier and like Amy said with a little adjusting you can get all your tricks. I can’t do a knee hold on my 50, but have no problem on my 38, so even leg holds and jaded are easier for me.

I like the though of a better hand grip! The first 1-1.5 years I had a 50 mm. Since then I've used a 45, but I'm constantly thinking of buying a 40 . The opinions seem positive most of the time.

I’ve not heard much negative about it. Will feel abit odd for me after 4 years using a 50mm.

I understand how you're feeling about it. But when I switched to 45 from 50 I didn't experience any big difference however, except for better hand grip and a more dangerous CAR (on spinny). The change will be a bit bigger for you but I'm sure you'll get used to it in a couple of weeks and imagine, you'll most probably be able to do EVEN better lifts and stuff!

It'll feel weird at frist, but I really think you'll like the 40mm.

Thank ladies, I'm 90% sure I want to go for the 40mm now

One of the girls I pole with has a 40, and I love it! I did not notice any difference in leg grips. Shoulder mounts were a little painful, sort of like when I was first learning them. But like Amy said, you adjust quickly. And the hand grip is sooo much better, it’s worth it!! I wish I had space for two poles, a 45 and a 40!

Thank you. I'm hoping to keep my 50mm up aswel, but I really doubt theres enough room 🙁

How exciting! I am trying to decide between a 40 or another 45 too 🙂 getting a new pole soon!
I’m sure you will be even more amazing with a 40! I have a a 50 & a 45, I love my 45 but I need a taller pole so I have to pick again :-/ I love the 45 compaired to the 50 & I wouldn’t go back up a size ever! Things are easier to me on a 45 so I feel like it should be even easier on a 40… Right? Lol -
I love my 38, but I want to perform someday and seems like the standard is a 45 chrome. Therefore I need to nail my tricks on a 45 and now am buying another pole! I would say if u are going to perform ever, learn on what is being used.
