I have seen a lot of videos. But it didn't help me:(
Have anyone soms tips or advice?

Have you tried more than one entry method, I have seen it done 2 ways. First (and most common I think) from Brass Monkey – Eros – Janeiro This is how Veena did it it her recent video. Secondly from CKR/CLR – Bow and Arrow/Archer – Janeiro http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYESpVLx1bc to see what I mean. Now, I am nowhere near ready to try this move, but to me it looks easier from the CKR/CLR at least in theory…in my mind…but I don't see many people trying it this way so maybe I am dead nuts wrong! 😛

Working in this I came at it in both of the ways mentioned above. I actually found the brass monkey entry easier. I flat out can’t do it yet from CAR or CKR. I have a video up called New Tricks that shows my entry. I have to hook the free foot (in the brass monkey) kinda funky to help lower me down into it. You want to try to rest your hip on your elbow. Once your hips are low enough you’ll start to feel the balance of it. You also need to arch the back and lean into the pole or you feel like you’re falling forward. I hope any of that helps! It’s a tricky balancing act, this move.

I don't know if your problem is the same as mine was but I was putting my arm TOO LOW. What I found was that as I was putting weight on the "Shelf" if it was too low I would slip out – you want to start with your elbow pointing up – then twist your leg into a turn out and plant the the divet in your hip onto your elbow/bicep and slowly come dow – as you add weight your "shelf" will flatten out – that's why you want to start with inside forearm frip high enough to sustain the weight about to be placed on it.
I hope that helps. For what it's worth Is till can't do it without a mirror – I need to be able SEE where my inside arm is or else I keep planting it too low.

I think this is another one where back flexibility is preventing me from properly executing the move. Try as I amy, I do not bend that way. I iwll come back to it as I become more flexible I guess. If I am ever able to even get that flexible. I have issuse even grabbing the pole once I lay back from a CAR. My back is not flexible at all.

I took a workshop with Marion Crampe where she taught us the Janeiro. She told us that poor back flexibility wouldn't stop you from learning the move but having a flexible back would make the position more comfortable. She does hers from a CKR. She did a tutorial video that might help you. I'm still working on balancing by myself but her explanation really worked for me

For me, I kept thinking I was messing up and couldn’t bend in that direction lifting my chest up. So, I was too scared to let go of the other arm. I was told to first let go of the other arm THEN lift my chest and lean back. This worked instantly. You cannot bend that way with proper chest with the other arm holding you down literally.

Just wondering if arm length has any bearing to whether you can achieve this move or not? I cant seem to find my elbow even trying to enter from CAR or brass monkey, ensuring there is a shelf, on a 40mm pole, with tuition, with various pole vid tutorials etc etc just cant seem to get it. My back is very bendy too (I can chest stand) but when I measured the length from my shoulder to elbow against other girls mine is shorter by 1-2 inches. Im getting convinced that its the length of my arm that is preventing me from achieving this trick!

I can attest that Karol is tiny all over, arms included, and she can bust this out.

I’m curious myself as I am convinced I have a similar issue w/this trick (in spite of also being strong & plenty bendy, & understand the mechanics of the trick pretty well) but I would LOVE to be persuaded otherwise… So far, tho, the #s seem to be tell-tale… Pole-geek alert (skip the rest of this post if you hate math): do you know your “ape-factor” ? This is your wingspan-to-height ratio, common sports science stat of interest in basketball players, possibly athletes of other sports too (sorry this kind of thing has inevitably filtered into my brain with sports nut/nerd hubby by my side over so many years)… The theoretical perfect balance/proportion on a human is 1-1 (for sports like basketball, swimming, rowing, etc., higher ratio is better). Mine is on the low side, I forget the exact value, but it’s definitely under 1, and I know I am “short” by about 1″ (maybe a bit more) overall, so about 1/2″ per side (in other words, I officially “technically” have short arms, LOL). This 1/2″ difference might not sound like much but if you’ve come this far in pole then you’ve all had experiences learning different things where we get the powerful understanding that “every little bit counts”. I am rather “tiny all around” too, albeit not quite as much so as Karol, given I’m quite a bit more hippy/leggy than she is (ironically warranting probably just that much “longer” of a shelf for *my* Janeiro whereas my arms don’t even create the standard “minimum” size … But I’ve also been around Karol (& watched her perform her Janeiro dozens of times) and I know she’s got quite some limbs on her, hence I’m guessing she has a higher ape-factor. From time to time I test this on my students & other instructors, & it’s interesting how the results are very telling, especially as the ape-factor tends to jive well with what moves that person tends to favor or just naturally excel at.
Anyway, check that on yourself (lying on the floor against a wall I think renders most accurate results) & please do report back — I am very curious what your ape-factor is… I will try to get a video of my own Janeiro attempts to post here as well.

Sorry I just saw your message! Thanks for bringing my attention to the ape index, I did my measurements and it came to 0.444, which means I have shorter arms than my body i.e. not in proportion. You can be tiiinyy but as long as you are in proportion it shouldn’t be a problem executing this kind of moves!
I still haven’t managed to achieve it, even with the tuition from a world class instructor – so I too understand the techniques of getting into this very well. I’m really convinced it’s because my arm is too short to create enough of a shelf!
I will look at filming this and trying it again as I have temporarily given up on it to work on other stuff! xxx

I am officially the Pole Dancing T-Rex. I’m about 2 inches shorter in my arms! (I can’t sit on the floor with my back straight and reach the floor with my palms.
The girls always laugh at me because I can’t reach one hand above, one hand below when holding the pole between my legs! Last week we tried some floor planches, my elbow was so far from my hip/middle that there was no way I’d be able to balance (however I can balance it if I go into a split and bring the weight of one leg over my shoulder)Anyway to my final point, I can Janeiro, even with my T-Rex arms (somehow!)

Oooooh, T-Rex, then you may now officially be my Janeiro hero(ine)!!! Please any advice or tips u can give would be great! Assuming u have some good “womanly” hips on u? Or would u consider ur hips small for your proportions? My arms are a little over 1″ shorter than my overall height, however my hips & booty & thighs are definitely on the big for my overall body size (very triangle shape, I guess you could call it)… so I wonder if for my particular hips/booty I have enough “shelf” out of my upper arm? Ugh, I hate excuses for not being able to do certain moves… Thus far I have mostly succeeded in finding “work-arounds” for some tricks where my arms are definitely otherwise too short to execute the “typical” way…

Oh I def have a booty! (even more so since injuring myself and sitting on my butt for 5 months in 2012)
I go from Cross Ankle, wrapping into my armpit. I look over my shoulder AT MY ELBOW, I’m aiming to get to pole right into my armpit and my upper arm completely horizontal. I then start to drop my hips to the side, catching my top foot onto the pole as I lower. Watch your hip lay onto your elbow. before letting go with your top foot. Top leg very much needs to GO BACKWARDS as it lets go.
Make sure your butt does completely pass the pole. As your weight goes over, the weight lifts from your bottom hand (you may have to experiment with where to place this at the start that it’s not too low and pulling your head/shoulders end down).
As my hand comes off and I get into the final position, I continue to look over my shoulder and I have to engage by back, pulling my legs back to bring my centre of gravity closer to the pole. -
Hi Robyn! Thanks for the tips, its good to know its possible even for us with short arms! I had a quick try but the most i can get my hip on to is the corner of my elbow which slips off eventually 🙁 big failllll

This may not be the same thing, but a few years ago I used to get cracked blood vessels around my eyes after doing upside down things that required a lot of focus. I wasn’t breathing properly.
I don’t know if rashes can turn up for the same reason. How long do they stay?

Lina, they usually stay for a few days to a week but it is usually after I do moves that are upside down and a lot of pressure goes to the head! Perhaps its our breathing technique? I notice i do hold my breath alot when Im concentrating.
