Hello 🙂 I am new to the site. I am very interested in learning how to dance. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice about the type of pole I should get, since I am a beginner and all 🙂 Thanx!!

Welcome to the best Online pole community you’ll find 🙂 n the best form of fitness. You’ll get lots if opinions its just finding what works for you. Have you used any type of pole at all? I researched my first pole purchase extensively and settled on a 50mm X-Pole. Static and spin–but I prefer static almost always. It’s Titanium gold because I had heard it has better grip and I have no complaints–I love it. I then bought a 45mm Sport pole for downstairs and last year got a 45mm x-stage lite that I LOVE. it’s my current fave

Started w a 45 chrome, then moved to a 50 lil Mynx. Now considering getting a 40 x. If ur small (I am 5′ even) go w a smaller pole at least. I can not do any hand grips on a 50…..

I just have the one pole that my hubby bought me as a suprise. It's an xpole sport, 45 in titanium. I really like it, but haven't used anything else, so can't compare it. All I would say is that had I had a choice in the pole I got, I would have gone for the xpert pole as it both spins and is static. I will defo be buying a spinny pole next as I feel I'm missing out not having the choice and am desperate to try spinny. This is obviously a more expensive way of doing it, rather then just getting a static and spinny in one.

I started on a stainless lilmynx 50. It seemed too slick (bug in reality it was not warm enough.) sold it and got a TG 50 x pole. It was too large for my hands. I have a brass 45 platinum stages 1 piecd and I love it, although it is much too grippy at times. I have an original chrome 50 as well. I hate the diameter but like the finish. I have dlso danced on powder coated 38mms. The diameter is great, but powder coating is tricky. It can be too grippy in some respects, but if you are too sweaty, you’ll slide. I suggest a 45, 40, or 38 if you are a smaller girl if gave small hands. If you are taller Ruth larger hands, I suggest a 45. Finish depends on body chemistry.

I have to second what nichtooks said – wishing my xpole sport could spin now! But, still love it and am very happy with it.

I bought a 50mm a few years ago, it came highly recommended, but it was the most useless thing ever because I coudln't grip it with confidence.  I sold it.  Whatever size you get, make sure it works with the size of your hands.

My first pole was a 50mm X pole sport, chrome then a year later I got a 45mm Xpert chrome as I thought I'd like to try spinny,

I wanted a 45mm as I have smallish hands and found my grip on the 45mm feels so much better.  I do use spinny sometimes but mainly use static because I feel so sick each time when I put it on spinny.   I've read the tips and blogs about getting used to spinny  mode but nothing seems to work as I end up feeling so sick and giddy each time, I wish I could do it because spinny does look really pretty, thats why I keep trying. 😉

I bought a used 50mm chrome x-pole that has a spinny option. I love my pole 🙂 it works really well and I have no complaints. I would like to buy a new pole in the future and i will probably look at getting a 45mm Titanium Gold x-pole.

I started out on 50mm chrome poles in a studio and recently purchased a 45mm xpole xpert and am in love with it!

I started with a 50mm chrome x-pert. I now have a 50mm Platinum Stages Brass Multi-Piece. In studio I’ve used everything but a Lil Mynx. I’m short and not so flexy so maybe a thinner pole would have been better for me, but my grip is strong and the 50 feels sturdy and works well for me.
There are tons of forums here re: pros and cons of each finish, size, and brand of pole. Read through them. They’ll be very helpful.
The most important criteria is how and where are YOU going to use your pole? Will you have to take it down regularly? Do you need something that travels well? Will you be moving? Is ceiling height an issue? The forums here can help you answer all of those questions.

I bought a 50mm pole a year and a half ago that has a spinny option, i love it to bits! Never had any problems with it though i've used it very often.

My friend found the Hot Pink Pole by Peek-A-Boo and I got one with her without reading into it or doing any research myself.  IT WAS SUCH CRAP that I ended up RETURNING it.  Moral of the story, don't get Peek-A-Boo.

The first pole I ever purchased was a LM hot pink powder coated.  At the time only LM and PS were making poles and PS I am not sure even had the poles they have now.  If they did they were extremely expensive.  45 mm poles did not exist.  I had that pole for 3 years until I won an X in a contest.

A pole will only be functional if you use it.  If I were to buy a pole now X would be my pole of choice for numerous reasons.

I have a 45mm brass extreme pole from Platinum Stages. I love it. It spins and goes stationary. My only complaint is the plastic cover at the bottom because i chose to buy a multi piece. Wanted to have options because i know that i will not be in the house i live in for much longer.
I have found that most people prefer the 45mm and smaller… And finish really is personal preference. I live in a humid enviornment and i am sweaty- brass is my best friend some days. But the strong i become- i am falling in LOVE with the chrome xpoles at the studio. They are well broken in and when i am warm- they too are a joy to dance on. If and when i move and have more space- i plan to buy a second pole to put up and it will more than likely be a chrome x-pert 45 or 40mm
