    Hi everyone.
I have been searching the web and decided I would like to invest in some mighty grip aids. Since it will be an international order and shipment, combined with the current exchange rate; I want to make sure I am spending my money wisely and this is where I hope you ladies can help me. If any of you have the products I am very interested in what you think of them and if they help you with your pole pogress.
I am interested in purchasing the following:
    1. Anckle protectors with tack – I like the idea of having something that will protect my feet (they are always bruised) and due to my sweatiness I hope they will help with the moves like climbing when I am sweating!
    2. Knee protectors with tack – to help with moves that require knee holds.
    3. Inner thigh protectors with tack – I am really keen on these as I am really battling with moves that require gripping with the inner thighs, I just keep sliding down the pole so I am hoping these will help.
    4. Pole gloves with tack – I would like to try these when practising tricks. Not for spins. I just want to be sure my hands are not going to slip while I am inverted or trying a new trick.
I see there are also upper arm protectors with tack advertised as well but I am not sure how helpful these will be? Might help with the bruising on my arms but if they do not help with moved I would rather spend my money on other equipment.
I would love to hear your feedback on these products before I committ to buying them. If you have any other products that you think are indispensible I would also like to hear about them.
Your feedback (as always) is always much appreciated! Ps; I have a crash mat and tight grip but any other products you can recommend would be great.
    Thanks

I got the gloves, but I didn’t really like them. They dug into the spaces between my fingers and I didn’t feel as secure with them as I did without them because my hand moved in them a bit. I know they say to use another grip aid before putting on the gloves, but I just prefer the biofeedback I get from my bare hand on the pole. I haven’t really had problems with ankles, knees, or inner thighs, but aside from initial pain/bruising with new moves, I think your body just has to get used to the pressure of the pole.

It is an excellent idea to use some grip aid before wearing any sports gloves. This keeps the gloves from slipping against the skin of the hands; a very import concept when using any gloves, be they for golf, baseball, football, racquetball, weight lifting/training, crossfit and POLE DANCE.

I have the ankle protectors, and to be honest, I rarely use them. If I’m doing nothing but practicing climbs, i’ll throw them on, but otherwise I’ve found that they inhibit my dancing because I tend to get “stuck”. I have really dry skin so it’s like being wrapped in cotton trying tompole dance if I don’t use some type of grip aid. My favorite thing to use actually is CVS raspberry shaving cream on my body, and then I wipe my hands and pole down with white distiller vinegar. If I need to I’ll use a little spray grip.

Getting “stuck” on the pole sounds awesome right now! Thanks for the input. Anyone else have any personal experience with these grip aids?

OK…I am going to be the nasty one here.  These are great if you are sweaty or are trying to protect yourself (say if you are training for a comp or something).  I have issues with people buying these because they think they are going to be their saving grace in learning a move that they probably just do not have the skills to perform yet.  There, I said it.

There are lots of threads here reagrding different grip aids and even these protectors.  I have tried the gloves, not a fan (I have large hands and the sizes just were not right for me).  I do know of people who have issues with extremely sweaty hands that they have been great for.

Not nasty at all. That is exactly the use for our protective gear. They are training and practice items until such time as one has been able to build the strength required to be a successful Pole Dance/Sport person.

Also good for long hours of traing for a competition to protect the hands and legs. I don't  think I have to explain what happens when you train for three or fours at a time.

    thank you,

I am a bit taken aback by Chemgodess comment! I am still learning so I do want to find products that can help me and I am not sure why that should be a problem.
Also, I suffer from RA and the medication I take makes me extremely sweaty. My grip issues are keeping me from progressing and I would like to find products that are going to give me the grip I need to do the more advanced moves.
It is either that or give up pole dancing and quite frankly I am not ready to give it up!
I think you need to find out the persons particular issues before generalizing.
Even if I do get the grip aids, I will still continue doing strengthening excercises as obviously I do not want to use them forever if I don’t have to.
I would still like to hear from ladies with personal experiences with gloves, ankle protectors and upper thigh protectors. Have they helped you and would you recommend them?

    Hi,

I think every individual has something that works for them, personally I use mighty grip powder and powergrip balm (one or the other) but I don't use gloves etc. I tend to only use the grip aids if it's extremely cold and I can't get the pole to stay warm enough to maintain proper 'stickiness' or sometimes I will use them during a long heavy session when I start to get too sweaty to grip (mainly on my freakishly sweaty soles of my feet as mu hands aren't really a problem.

As long as you are honest with yourself about how strong you are and don't risk injury (which I suspect you will be careful of anyway if you have RA) then I think there is no problem with trying these products. Perhaps try one set out first before shelling out on a full body set?

I know there are other ladies on here with RA too so it might also help to track them down and see if they have any advice which could help too! I have been teaching my friend (who is only 23 and sadly has arthritis) and suffers hyperhydrosis, she is OK with mighty grip powder so far, we will see when she starts climbing and inverting if she needs anything else.

I don't think anyone would want you to stop poling due to any conditions you have, but it is common for beginners to have difficulty with some moves simply due to not having enough grip strength. Strong muscles help to protect joints.

From what you are saying though it sounds like you do have issues with hyperhydrosis. Do you already use powder/balm grip aid? If not it's well worth trying that out too.

Hope  you find a combination that suits you and that this has helped in some way! x

when I want tons of grip on my legs I just use my thigh high pleasers 🙂 although  have gotten stuck upside down in them. I mainly use them when I know I'm going to be doing new tricks over and over like at a workshop. I wore them when I did 4 back to back Karol Helms workshops for the 3rd workshop because my legs were getting brusied and sore.

I hae dry skin and used to try a bunch of the grip aids but now I tend to make sure I mosturize well a little bit before poling with a non greasy lotion and my favorite grip aid is because it makes my skin moist.

I think sometimes wearing all that can get in the way. Give the gloves a try though. I have the opposite problem. I am to dry for grip so I use itac. I get it all over the pole first then I spray on my body NOT hands and I am good to go! For awaiting it is a powder based grip you need. Use it all over where you sweat. And wipe that pole down a lot!!

I like Itac on the pole. Dew point on body and HANDS. yes I know it says not to put it on your hands but my hands are so dry specially in winter if I don't then I crack and bleed. Sometimes I use corn huskers lotion on hands and body. Just depends on the weather and skin conditions lol.

I keep Mighty grip around for when I do sweat. I also love the pole physics lotion. It has been a god send!

even in Jamaica I didn't sweat while poling lol so I own no products geared towards sweaty skin.

I have the gloves both tack and non tack – I don't use them as much as I thought  I would because as Joel said you do want to have some grip on before using them and I still kinda slide a bit in them.  They are great for learning when fear is making your hands sweat.  I always carry them but like I said I don't use them as much as I use Mighty Grip Powder.

They are heavy duty gloves and can take a lot of abuse – a lot of students find them very useful.  I have never had a complaint or heard a complaint about them.

I'm also considering getting the ankle protectors too just to have incase I get a silly idea to do something weird and I need the grip.   I highly recommend all MG products!

I am fairly new to poling as well….about 9 months now, but being a tad older, I am not as advanced as many others who started with me.

Anyway, I bought the ankle protectors with tack when I was learning to climb, etc.  The tack is strips along the sock.  It isn't as if the whole sock is tacky.  I used them a few times, but unless you have your foot just right (to make the tacky part stick on the pole), you find yourself readjusting to get the tack strip lined up with the pole.   I used them a total of maybe 5 times, and found it better for me to just learn to use my foot skin and build up the muscles.  I wouldn't get too excited and buy all that stuff.  Maybe try one, then go from there…..

I am sorry if I came off horrible to you.  There have been so many that want to be able to do things beyond their abilities and see products like these as their savior.  I have never been one to mince my words and only speak truthfully (if not bluntly).

As I stated earlier if indeed you have an issue with hyperhydrosis then these can help.  You stated that you want them to help with knee holds and sitting type moves.  I don't know how long you have been poling but if you look around the forum these are moves that many have issues with just because they are difficult.

I am sorry if I offended you.  I really am quite a decent person.

I am a big fan of the ankle protectors, but each pair ive had ripped. I still recommend them, but u might need to keep sewing on the tack strips. I got mine about a year ago, so not sure if they are any different now.

We have upgraded the stitching on the anklets and also added an extra piece of tack strip on the underside of the foot for better grip on the pole.

We also have a "heavy duty" style anklet with thicker tack strips. They are more expensive but for some it works well.

    Thank you,

    Joel

@Chemmie – I agree that sometimes people get really frustrated and move to shoes, boots and other grip aids because they are trying to get a zillion moves…and I know you're a sweetheart!

Another piece of advice as far as sweatiness (body sweat) is to look into getting some dry rosin or mighty grip.  I use mighty grip when I get sweaty and slippery especially between the thighs and it feels similar to rosin that you get in rosin bags and that works better for than covering the area with a tacky strip of something.  I have a student who sweats a ton between her thighs and rosin or mighty grip powder works really well for her.

The gloves work really, really well – I ordered them after Karol Helms came and let me try hers – I've even performed in them.  One time I was performing outside and it was 50 degrees and I couldn't stick to the pole nor could I grip it because it was so cold and luckily I had my gloves – without those gloves I wouldn't have been able to do anything at all.

I don't use the gloves as much as I thought I would which is kind of a good thing actually but it's so great to have them in my bag for when I need that extra security!  They also work great for other things like lyra and trapeze – FY! 🙂

Joel- Just placed an order for my studio! Cant wait to try the new knee protectors!!! I think they will be a big hit.

40andlovingit- Do what you need to do….when i first started I needed alot more grip aids than i do now. It also depends on the type of pole. I stick much better to stainless steel and brass, so i hardly use grip aids on those. I know how disruptive and frustrating it can be to your workout when u keep slipping! A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G!! I love the ankle protectors, and im excited to try the knee protectors. Nobody is perfect and we all need a lil help at some point. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Well said. Our items are not an end unto themselves. They are aids where needed and where they will keep a would-be poler in the studio. Confidence is fragil item. Lose it and it will be difficult to regain.

    Thank you,

Thanks for the great advice ladies! I think I am definately going to invest in some mighty grip products. I figure they can only help and if there comes a time when I don’t need them anymore – I am sure there will be someone battling with grip that I can give them to.
Where I live (in South Africa) the humidity and the heat is a nightmare, especially for me as my body temperature is haywire. My sweatiness is really an issue and I would just love to be able to do a few moves without slipping right off. I agree, I also need to work on my strength, and I will continue doing Veenas strength and conditioning excercises as well.
Joel – are the heavy duty anklets on the website? Only saw one type advertised if I remember correctly??
Thanks for all the concern everyone. I will be safe and only try moves I know I have the strength to do. No silly monkey business I promise!
This will be a Christmas present for me from me – can’t wait!
