Need advice on buying a pole…
Posted by MadisonsWorld on November 13, 2011 at 5:10 pmOk…so I have only used brass 50mm poles before, and want to purchase a pole for my house..I used an chrome x-pole for the first time yesterday,it was alright..but I think I like the brass better..has anyone used both, what are your comparisions? Any any poles will help too, brands also…finding a portable brass pole in the us is hard, that is the other problem I am running into..I want a REAL brass pole, not a brass coated..any suggestions….please..I really want a good pole and want one soon…thanks

You should consider a titanium gold pole. The grip is great, I just had the pleasure of trying it earlier this month and really loved it.

Everybody has their favorites when it comes to poles. Took a workshop last weekend with brass poles and could not do a thing on them as I kept sliding to the floor. I have the most consistent grip on chrome but that is me. I will also say that no 2 pole manufacturers are the same. Brass from PS is totally different than from X and poledanzer as is stainless between LM, PD, PD and X.
-
Maybe I will have to go try a brass pole again….it has been awhile since I used one…I just still think I am going to like the feel of it better than the chrome..it has a softer feel…I am just afraid to spend this kind of money to not like the pole..I know I like brass, but I guess that is because that is all I know..
-
Find out where they bought their poles. If you like the grip of them, see if you can get a pole from that company. That would be best. Many girls have said the x pole brass is a little slicker than the other brands because it is a brushed brass, while pole danzer and PS makes a polished brass.

@ polefitmom, I just found out that a studio in my town has titanium gold poles from x pole…so I am going to go try them out in the next couple of weeks…I have to take an intro class to learn how to hold the pole and they only teach that class twice a week, and my kids have off school next Monday and the other day is sat, and I have a family thing…bummer,so it will be 2 weeks..but I am stoked to know I can try the pole before I buy it..I hope it is like the brass..and x pole has brass, but only in 45mm,which stinks…but it is much more expensive too and a brushed brass not polished…

As much as I LOVE xpole – I am not as excited about their brass poles as I thought I would be. It was very different than a polished brass. I will say, I prefer the chrome pole for myself – Maybe because I learned on chrome, and most likely because brass is too grippy for me. But I am very excited that you get to test the TG pole to see how your body chemistry works with it :o) There is nothing worse than spending a huge chunk of change on something you are so excited about and not have it work the way you expected.
xoxo,

its weird because I never found brass being grippy..I mean, it was when I needed it to be,but was able to spin and manuever great on it..my arm is so bruised from the chrome pole..I don’t know if I was overcompisating my holds, but a few times my skin was getting pinched and I vever had that happen on brass..it is just weird how different people react to differnt poles..but yes I am very glad I get to try it before I spend the money..hopefully it will work,if not, back to square one..
-
Ideally you should try several different pole types.
A word of warning. There have been girls who have reacted to the nickle in the x poles. I have a nickle allergy and I was fine, but there is that possiblility there. The metal on the poles is a plating, so it rubs off with time, so the nickle exposure it there if you have a severe allergy.
-
I don’t believe I have an allergy…just bruising…I have bruising on my legs as well, which I have gooten before when I first started pole dancing and when I stopped and went back..just never had pinched my skin like that on my arm..I didn’t glide the way I did on tha brass..that is why is weird to hear that brass is grippier..maybe I am just used to brass..I just can’t wait to find a pole and have one @ home..getting anxious and jealous of everyone on here..lol

Are there any studios that have poles other than brass that you could play on to test out?
-
FYI, there are actually a several portable brass pole companies in the US…
Platinum stages (50mm and 45mm)
Pole Danzer (50mm only)
Aradia Poles (stationary only 50mm and 38mm)
canada, but shipping is reasonable:
action poles (stationary only 50mm and 38mm)
-
I want a 50mm stationary..I talked with Pole Danzer this morning…I just wish the pole didn’t have the platform..I looked @ action, they are more expensive and shipping is more, but if it is what I want..I can’t pull up the other site…and I heard bad things abt platinum stages customer service..altho I have talked with them, and have to say, they are pretty nice there..I do want a pole that I can mount to the ceiling but remove it…I just feel safer..the whole tension thing scares me,no matter how many people say it is safe..

We use only real, genuine brass and real stainless steel. We never use brass coating. There is a huge difference between real, genuine brass and brass coated poles.

Hi everyone had some great suggestions! Its always a good idea to try other finishes if you can. My favorite finish in the Titanium gold. I do like brass but not the smell it leaves on you. If you want super grip you can try a powder coated pole too. We sell x pole here if your interested. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gifhttps://www.studioveena.com/shopping

The bad stories about PS have spread like wild fire. All the pole companies have had issues. I advise you to contact the companies and ask them questions.
If you want a pole that is 50mm stationary, then aradia will be what you want BUT it is a 1 piece (but so is action poles.)

Platinum stages and pole danzer are the only 2 with multi piece options, but multi piece poles aren't NEARLY as good.

I've only been on PS brass and MArkstar Brass (markstar is an industrial tubing company – they don't make home poles) and they both felt the same to me. Brass is the grippiest pole out there – not so grippy you can't spin but once you start sitting, inverting and using it for moves where your body grips the pole – it certainly sticks and leaves it's mark on you, lol!
I generally recommend students purchase chrome or stainless steel poles simply because you never know if you're going to want to perform at some point and those are the 2 most common finishes you will run into.
Brass also has more upkeep than chrome or stainless – which is the benefit of the titanium coated poles. The downside to titanium coated poles is the finish wears off and can do so rather quickly – grip isn't effected by this but some people aren't too happy when their pole is gold and silver.
I've had 5 PS Stainless poles, 3 Chrome X-poles, 1 titanium x-pole and 1 powder coated LM. I've never had the finish peel off of any of the 3 chrome poles I have (although I have heard it can happen) and one of my chromes is 4 years old and has been used the most.
Powder coating (colored poles) is another option you have for grip. Lil Minx makes them -they are semi permanant so you have to drill – but they offer a ton of grip (almost too much like the brass I feel) but it's a less expensive option than brass but currently not available in a multipiece or pressure mount…but it's something to consider if you like really grippy poles 🙂
OMG – have I really owned 10 poles?!?!

@platinumstages-hey,I just got off the phone with one of ur girls…she was very helpful..that is why I don’t understand why there are some negative comments on here abt customer service..

Yes Madison, it's unfortunate that others have had issues with PS service and products in the past. I don't see too many who claim to have had issues lately, so I would think that's a good thing! I don't see any negative comments on this topic though anyway. The regular members here have always been willing to share their experience in order to help a dancer figure out what pole will work best for them. They are great!
-
Charley – Haha! 10 poles! This has to be in your studio right????
As charlie says, yould always get a lilmynx powder coated. They are supposed to be pretty darn grippy. They are semi permanent and they are 1 piece. Lilmynx is a great company too.
-
@sensualscimitar – I don't own a studio – LOL! The 3 of the PS poles were used for a short bit for teaching in a yoga room and the rest have just been collected over time.
I'm down to just 1 PS oldschool super pole, 1 50mm chrome X, 1 45mm chrome x, 1 45mm tg x and 1 x-stage….still a rather large collection for someone who just teaches.
@Madison – if you just want a stationary pole – I also just thought of the X-pole sport. In the future you might want a spinner. I thought I'd never want a spinner when I started which is why I bought the Lil Minx but within a year or so I realized I wanted to SPIN and that's when I moved to the portable PS pole…but if you just get something static you will save money now…so just some food for though.
-
lilmynx does spin too! They are still the most affordable, even in spin mode.
-
I have looked @ lil mynx too..I am going to try the poles that I think(gonna talk to the owner to make sure of the brand cause I heard that they may not be x pole TG),you would think employees would know what kind of poles they are working with..she did say a few things that didn’t make sense..and go try a brass pole again and x-pole chrome as well…it will be a few weeks before I order, bummer, but I want to make the right choice…it is pretty much between x-pole TG and PS brass…plus I want a ceiling mount and those 2 companies have good mounts
-
I have five lylminx and two of them have broken in under a year. There customer service if there is a problem is not good. In a home situation, there are probably fine. But in a studio situation I don't feel they are very safe. The spring broke in one, and the bottom came out in another and dug a hole in my ceiling as I was trying to unwedge it. Must have got lemons. The first pole broke in the first three months. Second broke in 10 months. They would not replace the first one, and they told me to use the hex key that they did NOT send me to replace the bottom on the second pole.

@ pegasusaerialfitness..thanks..I think I am going to wind up going with PS brass..just haven’t decided on a one piece or multi…I want a one piece just because it just makes me feel safer, but I like the idea of being able to move it to my room where the ceilings are higher..I do have to measure,to see if I may be able to get away with a one piece,I don’t have the room in the bedroom for a lot ot aerial tricks,so I have to really measure and look…plus the one piece is cheaper and I want to buy a ceiling mount..what poles do you own?
