Brass X-pole!
Posted by Shellectra on April 24, 2011 at 3:28 amI am upgrading to a 45mm Brass X-pole and selling my 45mm Chrome to a friend! I LOVE the brass ones they had at classes I used to go to, I gripped to them so well, with my Chromey it's a constant battle to not slide down the pole, and I have always wanted a Brass one 🙂
Has anyone got the Brass X-pole? I can't find any info on them really. Are they grippy and awesome like I think they'll be?

Yes, and yes! Just clean it with acetone or the like when you first put it up to remove the factiry finish and you will stick to it like a fly to a wall, hehe…

As far as I am aware, you can't buy a brass x-pole yet. I assume you are referring to titanium gold. I have tried those and they have awesome grip.
By the way, I think X-pole is releasing a brass pole, but I have not heard an official date.
This is from the X-pole U.S. website:
What is the difference between Chrome and Titanium Gold? This is referring to the finish and color of the pole.
Chrome is silver in color and is a good general use pole for both spins and inverts.
Titanium Gold is gold in color and has an electronically coated surface that increases the grip. It is made to emulate the grip of a brass pole and is ideal for climbs and inverts.

oops! I see you are in Australia. They might have actual brass x-poles there.
-
Thanks guys! Yep in Aussie they are available, didn't even know they weren't everywhere! Finally we get something first LOL
I usually clean my Chrome with glass cleaner and a tea towel, would that be ok for brass? I read you can clean it with Metho too, maybe I'll use that..

oh wow! i just tried the Brass pole the other day in my pole jam with Kylee and fell in love with it! so totally jealous of you 🙂 have fun with it!!! :DD
-
If you are looking to get the same as the studio though, Shellectra, they have Pussycat poles.
-
I'm gonna place my order today 🙂 When it says x-pole Brass pole in "Brass Finish" is it just coated in brass or what does "finish" mean? It won't rub off will it? lol
-
I ordered my new 45mm brass xpole 2 days ago, yay!!!! Hopefully it comes within a week or less, I hope it's more grippy and allows me to do my tricks better cos i won't be slipping all the time!!! Whoo!! 🙂
-
Shellectra:
I once mailed x-pole.co.uk and asked about the finish. They replied that the x-pole brass is solid brass, not just a brass coating 🙂
However, I've heard that the brass needs to be cleaned a lot more, maybe with some kind of brass cleaning. X-pole should know 🙂

You're so lucky to live in Australia! I live in Sweden and been waiting for ages for x-pole in the u.k. to get the brass in stock. They were suppose to get them this spring, but nothing's happened yet..
-
Oh Elle u poor thing I hope they get them soon!!!!
I didn't know about the cleaning of a brass pole I'll look into it, or get some "Brasso" stuff apperently that cleans the pole up good.
Come on brassy… I ordered it 3 days ago, hopefully have it by next weekend 🙂

I have a brass pole and I love, love, love the grip! I clean it during practices with a 1/2 rubbing alcohol and 1/2 water solution. But even with regular cleaning it still gets tarnished over time. I use a generic metal polish on it every so often to get it all pretty and shiny again. The only problem with metal polish is that it has a small amount of oil in it to coat the metal and help prevent further tarnishing, which is good for the pole, but bad for grip! One of the members here shared a link with me on other ways to polish the pole (thanks Tine007). I haven't tried any of them yet because I have my chrome pole up at the moment, but they seem like pretty inexpensive and easy alternatives to metal polish.

Oops, sorry… I meant to share these links in my post…

Thanks Jenn! Gosh I'm scared now brass sounds so tricky to maintain and I don't want to make it slippery with the oil stuff!
-
It's really not that bad, just a little more maintenance than a chrome pole. And you don't have to polish it that often. I have polished mine probably about four times in the last year. The grip advantage totally makes it worth it if you struggle with stainless steel and chrome poles. I have almost no grip on stainless and can only stick to chrome if I slather myself in grip aides, lol. With the brass pole, I can actually get through a song without stopping to wipe myself or the pole every 30 secs.

Wow! I was just thinking this about 2 nights ago too! I too like Shellectra have a 45mm Chrome X-Pert and was also recently on the AUS X-Pole site looking at the price of the 45mm Brass X-Pert!
I wonder if you can get this picked up at the warehouse? Depending on where it is, I can save myself $50 if I pick it up myself!
I was also just wondering how to clean it and how often as I heard brass tarnishes over time. I would love to try a brass X-Pert before I buy, but at the moment, the only contact and experience I've had with brass poles are at Bobbi's Pole Studio in Sydney, in which they use Pussycat poles. I wonder how these brass Pussycat poles compare to brass X-Pert?
Does anyone know?Darn it! Work internet won't let me open those links on how to clean and maintain a brass pole! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
I recently bought some rubbing alcohol! I can't wait to try it on my Chrome to see how much of a difference it really makes compared to good ol' methol and water.
I've been forever struggling with Stainless Steel & Chrome. To me there's really no difference between the 2 finishes. I learnt on Stainless & own a Chrome as I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep going with pole so I thought better to get a common finish rather than splash out on something more expensive and then regret it later if I wanna quit. Glad I made the decision to keep going!

Ooo are you gonna buy the brass Joyful?? I picked mine up today from work, where it got delivered, and it's waiting open on the floor for hubby to get home and help me put it up yay!!! Already just feeling the 250mm extension it's SO grippy! Whohoo! I am SICK to death of constantly slipping down the pole, it makes all my cool tricks hit and miss and only always cos of the slip issue. Hopefully this solves it!
-
-
OHMYGOSH!!!! That looks FLIPPIN AWESOME!!!
Not just the pole but the move itself! 😉 U look awesome, girl!!How is it?!?!
Is it really a LOT more better than the Chrome X-Pert?!
I’m sooooo jealous!!! I want one now!! -
It's FAR more grippier than chrome!! I would call it a 'dry pole' cos thats how it feels lol! I think I have to get used to it and how to move on the pole cos I still cling too hard (expecting to slip) and so I 'pinch' skin on my legs etc by overcompensating. Still muuuuch better! If my hands sweat enough though I still slip a bit, but thats my stupid hands.
Another WEIRD thing I have noticed is I don't slip down the pole at all cos it's so grippy, but when in an elbow grip, forearm grip or twisted grip my lower hand slips AROUND the pole wtf? As in the direction you would spin in, so I get into my position and about to get my legs off and my hands slowly slip to the left or right and I can't find my balance sometimes cos I'm 'moving' lol! Something I'll have to get used to, but still relieved I ain't slipping towards the floor I guess!
-
Yippee!! Congrats on the new pole! I can't wait till X-Pole has the brass in the states!! Looks like your putting it to good use already 🙂
-
Hey Shellectra!
Just on closer look at your brass pole, are the base and dome non-brass?
It sorta looks like it’s a different color to the pole.I’m also still contemplating whether I should upgrade too to a brass. Sick to death of my Chrome.
Do your hands smell funny after using it?
I wonder if X-Pole also has a place (head office?) in which I can pick up my pole like you picked your’s up but in Sydney?
-
I have never danced on a brass pole! I heard they are awesome!
FYI, i read somewhere up there that some of you might use windex or glass cleaner on your pole…. Don't do this, it can leave resedu on the pole, and that can end up on your skin…. I believe the best thing to use is rubbing alcohol and a little water…..
-
oh really peace! I've always used glass cleaner oops.. i need to get me some rubbing alcohol actually!
joyful – yep your right the base and dome are not brass!! i am guessing titanium gold? its a shinier, more slippery metal. cheap hey!!!!!! its okay though i was annoyed at first about the base and adjuster cover being not brass cos my lower hand in upside down holds sometimes holds the adjuster cover but I don't seem to slip 🙂
