I am sure you ladies already have a thread on this but I couldn’t find it!
I am wondering if anyone poles in shoes other than heels and what brand? I have been keeping my eyes open for something that would work but haven’t found anything yet.

RhiannanNichole danced in bloch jazz shoes. Like dance sneakers. I think they have a pointe box thingy in the tip but feel and look like archy sneakers.

You can buy ’em at any dance supply store.

Sinnamon…I think you may be talking about Vibrams

I have not tried these.  If I am not in shoes I am usually barefoot.  I know alot of girls are starting to wear the foot undies/paws which are lyrical "shoes"

Vibram makes alot of shoes, the specific model is called "five fingers".

To anyone who is trying to copy and paste the link above…

Remove the last quotation forward….otherwise it gives you a page error.

    it should finish at.jpeg

Anyway–those are super freaky shoes!! Love them!!!

Kind of reminds me of the toe socks….My DD will fall in LOVE with those shoes when I show her! Maybe I shouldn't actually……….Then she will want a pair and they are likely expensive. LOL

    Thanks for posting the links….

I haven't been poling long enough to know whats good and whats not for pole stuff, but I've been dancing forever. I've been thinking about getting a pair of these things: http://www.zappos.com/multiview/7135568/3  They let your pivot and turn on the ball of your foot without sticking to the floor or getting rugburn, but leave your heal and toes free. Anyone tried them? Worth it to get a pair?

    Foot undies ROCK!

    I love them….

I also have a pair of nice jazz shoes that I wear…They only cost me 25 bucks or something cuz they were an earlier year model……..BUT, as I use them occassionally to practice in…….I don't need them to be the top of the line….newest trendy look~~no one else sees them but me.

OH…and the kids I coach gymnastics too~~I will wear them in the gym cuz we aren't allowed any outdoor footwear…..

As an alternative to stripper heels i like to wear ballet shoes, i bought a black pair with ribbons from topshop for £18, or you can get leather ballet shoes from danceplanet website for about £10, they look great..

I use the five fingers for Chinese pole…never thought to use them for pole! They might be a bit difficult to do “dancey” moves in as they have great traction (hence being great for Chinese pole). Not to mention they feel funny until you get used to them. I love using the sock undies!!!!

I use sansha split sole ballet flats for practice and foot undies or heels for performances 😀

My instructor INSISTED we (all newbies) to pole with heels…I tried it for one class and almost twisted my ankle…after that, I just wear socks.

I’m considering split ballet flats now just to help with turns and friction to ‘land’ but im thinking about foot paws/undies too.

So…Which gives you more control: foot paws, foot undies or ballet flats?

for mechie: it depends on the floor surface vs the material on sole of the “shoe”. for me I find my foot undies tend to slide around a bit. I dance on burbur carpet and tough plastic office mats. I like my ballet flats better because they don’t slide. if you’ve never worn ballet flats before, and depending on the brand you buy, you may or maynot have to sew elastic bands on the shoe around your ankle. also there is usually an elastic string towards the upper toe area that needs adjusting too (hint:not too tight and not too loose, play around with it flat footed and Demi point -on tippy toes).

mechie how in the world can you pole in socks??? I can't even imagine trying to climb without tons of skin or nice sticky shoes!!!!

@nymphdancer- lol I’m a newbie so all my climb are pretty basic, I mainly use the top of my foot. So as long as my socks are low enough (no-show socks) it’s doable.

I can’t turn when I’m barefoot because my feet sticks to the hardwood floor.

When I get my pole (hopefully in a month or so) I might try Foot Paws since my apt is carpeted.
