  • Dilemma: progress up to next level, or stay and take it easy?

    Hi guys,

It’s been quite a ride but I’ve just completed level 2 pole at the studio. Now I’m faced with a new dilemma: should I progress to level 3 from here, or stay in level 2 again?

On one hand, I know that moving to level 3 will push me way way out of my comfort zone all over again (especially learning the chopper) but I’ll definitely progress. When I started level 2, the basic invert seemed impossible but after working and sweating through all that practice it’s just another part of the choreography for me now.

On the other hand, it seems like a nice idea to coast along for a while, perfect all my moves, and enjoy *not* being the slowest girl in class anymore, but I’m worried that I’ll get bored learning the same tricks again!

I need to make a decision fast cos the new classes start on Monday and they fill out pretty fast. Really appreciate any input… You ladies give the best advice! Thanks in advance!

I'm sure it is tempting to jump to the next level to learn new tricks.. but it sounds like you would be more comfortable staying where you are for one more set of classes. It will give you time to build more strength and confidence with the tricks you know. You can always take open pole (or if you have a pole at home) to try new tricks.

Consider the length of the session too.  Is it 6 weeks?  That will pass too quickly to get bored, but give you enough time to master some of those level 2 moves, but a 10-12 week session might leave you regretting your decision by week 8.

My teacher always said you need to do a level twice. Once to learn the tricks and once to get them right. It takes some people more than this of course, but I think she has a point. Even when you know a trick there is always something new you can learn about it, especially in the early days.
