Superman!
Posted by Danielle Tillie on May 22, 2010 at 2:33 amHey everyone!
Ok so I’ve been working on the Superman. Before I started getting into it from Gemini, I would practice the hold from a dismount. It was simpler, cuz all I had to do was reach back and grab the pole. And I did that so that the skin down there would toughen up a bit. However, I did not realize how much twisting my skin would do during transition from Gemini! I always hit it with something pinched down there and YEEEOUCH! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif Should I be doing something to help minimize the pinching of the skin? I mean I have a distinct line on my inner thigh from one pinch that was just awful. I feel like as I’m turning myself over I’m twisting the skin into that pinch. Should I be relying on my arms more to hold me while I turn around? Or should I just keep pinching til I’m immune? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif lol. It’s such a pretty move and I can’t wait til I can get it smooth enough to look good. So far I haven’t even been able to work on dismounts or transitions out of Superman because I’m in too much pain to worry about that. I just hold it for as long as I can bear it then just let go. Help!

Hey, Girl! I don’t know if that if normal or not, https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif however, the same thing happens to me. I think it has to be toughened up with time. Also, this is one if you don’t do ALOT, you could loose it. In my experience anyway. It should also get smoother in time! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif

I had stopped working on the Superman for same reason. Then couple of days ago started again. I can get into it funky from different holds which is not as painful, but not from gemini which does hurt! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif I don’t know where the strength or focus should be when twisting to get into it. I understand the feeling of wanting to get it smoothly from whatever hold or position. We’ll get it!!

Hey ladies!!! Maybe I can help you out. When I do the Superman, I generally go into the Gemini, then switch to the Tammy and then into the Superman. If you go from the Tammy into the Superman there is less twisting necessary and thus less pinched skin. Good luck!

Englann…I think in my practice video and also the vid from when we were down in Columbus both show how I get into superman. I was having the same issues and found that if you go into side V first it makes it a lot easier to flip the hips. There was discussion about this a few months back:

Hey girly, you shouldn’t be experiencing that much pinching. Yes some serious inner thigh pain for a little while but your arms should be holding more of the weight. What Chem said about doing a side V while starting your twist is what should be done to avoid that. Get in your gemini and press the upper part of your inside thigh against the pole to stablize while you move your hands into position and then open out into V position and twist around locking your thighs at the end and lettin your hips sink into the move. Veena’s vid on this is really good but keep workin on it!

Ahhh… ok so my legs needn’t touch the pole anymore after I do the side V until I have my hips flipped around. Ok well I’m about to start practicing so we’ll see how much progress I make! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Yeah, didn’t go so well, lol. I couldn’t get it to work in that way so I tried doing the V bit several times, without any significant success. But I think I made some progress in at least understanding what needs to happen. I’ll get it eventually! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif

You will, I know it! It is tricky to get it smooth since your flippin the direction of your body completely. I actually do mine from a pike cause I hate doing it from a gemini so much lol.

Next time I see you you need to show me this. I have yet to figure it out and am not sure if it is due to technique or just my body type/flexibility issues.

not sure if this was already said, but really opening your legs as your flipping over helps rather than sort of falling into it. i think some people call that sort of pose the "TAMMY" it will hurt alot for awhile, but what your saying sounds like you just need to get your inner thigh away from the pole a bit more as your flipping so its not against the pole to drag just opening legs wider as you get into it should help. if you watch leigh ann orsi you tube vids she really opens her legs as she goes into it so thats’s a good example of what i mean. hope it gets better for you!

i find it easiest from a shoulder mount- you go into a sort of thigh hold after the SM and just push up into it. i can do it from a cradle but it HURTS as everyone has mentinoed. that’s actualy on my list of stuff to practice because i can’t hold it for much longer than a couple seconds without hopping out and aborting the move.

I had the same problem until recently, I have been doing superman for months now but I avoided it at all costs because it hurt so bad, I thought the pain would go away eventually but no, I stopped doing it to the point that when I tried it again I had lost it, LOL! I got it back eventually but I realized I was doing all the twisting with my legs almost closed, I was afraid I was just going to slide down if I didnt, now I open really quick into a V, twist my hips and close fast, I do drop a little but not much. hope that helps! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Not a problem girlfriend…I find it easier to do and I know with your skills you’ll have no prob doin it!!!!

Earthpanther thats how I do it but I need to have my hands on floor first and do it low down, have only just learn’t it and it doesn’t look pretty, I too have the Gemini pinched skin prob https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif

I also have the toughest time going into superman from side V. I must not have the arm strength needed to support what I need to do with the thighs/legs. I can do the superman by first going into scorpio, then to hip hold and flipping up. Still not as smooth as I would like. I still want to get it from the gemini, opening legs and twisting. I’ve gotten passed the pain of twisting so think I’m opening leg enough, just not being able to lock and my legs fall down. It looks nice and I need more variety anyway so going to keep on trying.
