Veena and Chris are truly wonderful, genuinely beautiful people. Happy Birthday, Studio Veena, from my whole heart. It’s an honor to be part of this amazing community.

What a frustrating situation. As a teacher, I totally understand keeping all the students safe, but it sounds more like a control issue than anything! I mean, maybe if they took the time to evaluate you privately & told you they thought you weren’t learning properly…but they’re not even bothering! This reminds me a bit of a very popular national studio who won’t let their students progress until THEY deem them ready. Go with your instincts. It sounds like you made the right choice by leaving.

Wow, that hardcore pole sounds awesome. Just to throw another name in there: PoleDanzer. My teacher had a permanent one in her home studio & one of my bosses bought removable ones for her studio. I really like the pole itself. Unfortunately, the removable ones are mounted on a base that’s probably a bit bigger than 1 square foot (kind of gets in the way) & is about 1 inch in thickness. I despise the base but love the pole. My teacher feels that Robert really understands the mechanics of how a pole is made. Hope this helps a little.

Happy Birthday! The world would not be the same without your kindness, sweetness and total frankness! You are a tremendous lady and I’m so glad to "know" you!

My husband and I are also major tree hugging liberals. We used to live in South Beach, FL where our son was born. And it is not a town for prudes in any way, shape, or form! The girls there wore bathing suits that were nothing more than dental floss with patches. And a lot of the men wore European Speedos that were quite literally "banana hammocks". A little further north is a lovely nude beach and right in the middle of South Beach is the "Gay Beach" (not derogatory–gay men named this section of the beach). The town was brimming over with sexuality and our son spent the first 3 years of his life there. Then we moved to Las Vegas, aka Sin City–need I say more? I have an Xpole at home, which my son swings around every night before bath time. So you’d think that when the pole studio had an open house party with demonstrations one day, that my husband would be fine with me taking my son there. NOOOOO! Despite his open-mindedness about just about everything, he actually thought it was inappropriate for our son to watch pole dancing because it is intrinsically sexual. I was disappointed but respected his thoughts. It turns out that some of the dances were definitely sexy and I was kind of glad my son wasn’t there–not because I was ashamed or embarrassed, but because I didn’t have to explain things like, why the dancer took off her shirt (she was wearing a bra top underneath). I guess it would all have been fine, but I know there will be plenty of time for him to discover all of that later.

Hmmm, if your left leg wants to automatically cross in front, why now practice a right handed invert (which means the pole is on your right side)? If you are right hand dominant, most will invert with the pole on the right. Right now, in the picture, you are practicing a left handed invert where the pole is on your left.

YAY! Oh Veena, I’m so glad you found out what is was and how to heal it properly. Both my parents were doctors, all their friends were doctors, my sister is a doctor and I can’t stand the profession! The medical model is so out of touch with actually listening and helping people–it’s like the focus shifted from the patient to the doctor as god. I’m so happy that you’re going to be fine!

Ooooh, Adamseve, I saw Fiya Starter at PoleAPalooza here in Vegas a few months ago. She was INCREDIBLE with a ton of sass and charisma and SKILLS. That is one lady that really knows how to dance and perform!
As for your other teacher that " believes in jumping on the pole and doing it", I’m hoping you mean that figuratively!

Yeah, waiting totally blows. I’m sorry.
OK, so I know this sounds horrible, but really, an STD is kinda part of our culture at this point. I mean, I hope that no one suffers from one, emotionally or physically, but the statistics are really high–something like 1 out of 3 sexually active people have had one or currently have an STD. We learn from our mistakes, we shouldn’t be branded with a scarlet S-T-D on our chests. So IF you have one (which you probably don’t since your last test came up clean, right?), you’ll be alright and you can get treatment. I have HPV, had treatment and had a vaginal delivery home birth with my perfectly healthy son.
Breathe, breathe, breathe.
