Thanks Veena! I dont think its a flexibility issue, as Ive always been really flexibile pretty much everywhere but it definitely could be hand strength. Im gonna continue trying to get into position on my left and working on my hand strength on the right…. so eventually I will be able to do it on both sides. Its probably gonna take me longer than hoped but thats alright.
Patience and practice, patience and practice! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif

Thanks! That vid was very helpful, Im gonna try some of the different ways she gave. I usually get into it the 2nd one she did (minus the butterfly)…
I’ve tried getting into it from a sort of Tammy but my abs arent really strong enough, since its kinda like a death lay or a reverse plank going up into it but grabbing with the hand once up far enough to reach it. But maybe if I curve my body a bit to the side like she did it would work https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif
Im so gonna get this move by the end of the week. I WILL IF ITS THE LAST THING I DO!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif Thanks again, much appreciated https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

It got here. I picked it up from the Studio where I take classes. I got it home. It is missing one of the long poles https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I’ll have to call my instructor in the morning so she can sort it out.
Aww that sucks. But at least you are just a step away from having a pole, yay!!

OMG thats awesome! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
Looks like a blast! Great pics! -
Thanks Violet. My husband asked me when I was going to post a video. I told him that it gives me stage fright just to think about it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif Lol!
Haha! Me too! I just posted my first video about a month or so ago (after 7 months of dancing). It was so scary! I dont know why but it gets all the insecurities flowing. During the video I was so frickin nervous and trying to bunch in everything I knew (which I didnt cause i kept thinking too much and forgetting what i wanted to do). But after I got over that first hurtle I post vids like every week now. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
Take your time. Try taking some practice vids and see what you look like on film…. Get some feedback from your hubby and post whenever you are comfortable. Dont feel rushed https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Welcome!!!! Hope you enjoy the site (I know I do)! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif
Yay! So Cal girls!!! Maybe I will get brave enough to post a video of me soon. I am so critical of myself. I feel so weak! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
No pressure to post anything right away. We are all our own worst critics & that first video post is always nerve racking for some reason! But I can assure you we are all very supportive https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

As far as inverts go, its a GOOD thing that your side is sticking to the pole. It should be when doing the Gemini/Scorpio etc…. You will bruise a little as your skin adjusts to the pressure and tension but it will subside.
BUT like cbr600 said, make sure when you are inverting your side isn’t crashing/slamming into the pole. You DONT want that, be sure you are inverting correctly (without a video seeing you I cant tell if you are), but either way i recommend you look at Veena’s Basic Invert video in her "Lessons" section of the site and compare it with your own.

Some reactions I got…
From my sister & mom: "So you want to be a stripper?" (they say that like its a bad thing https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif) Now they LOVE my pole and love watching me practice, yay!
From Dad: "Why dont you just run or go to the gym like a normal person?" lol! To which my reply was, actually a lot of gyms and fitness centers have Pole classes now and its so fun! Then my dad tried to do a spin on it and got dizzy https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
From friends: "Whatever floats your boat."
I left my pole up when my Grandma came to visit even though my mom insisted that I take it down. Grandma was so cool tho! She said "You know my Physical Therapist said this is one of the best ways to exercise! Just keep your clothes on…" https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif Shes fab.
I was lucky that no one really cared to much, not like it would have made a difference. I am PROUD to be a Pole Dancer! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I dont generally use anything on my hands. The most I do is before my workout I wipe down my pole and my thighs with Rubbing Alcohol wipes (you can also use liquid form), then wipe it off with a hand towel. That usually does the trick just fine. But depending on what pole you have and if its coated with anything, you may not want to use that. If its chrome it should work well.
Weather/Climate does affect the pole slippyness unfortunately… but If its that bad, I usually just give it a while and try later on in the day. I find that MY pole is the best after dark, close to sun down, or early in the morning. At least this time of year. *shrug*
But like faery said, Foxy has a great thread about grip aids if you like them. Personally i’ve tried a few hand grip aids and they just arent my thing. Dry Hands made my hands TOO dry & they would hurt… other stuff didnt work as well as my trusty Rubbing Alcohol. But to each their own! Give em a try, good luck finding something! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I didnt see this thread, how’d I miss it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif
Here’s my vid: https://www.studioveena.com/video/gallery/July-Pole-Challenge
Im not so proud of it and contemplated redoing it… its far from my best work but oh well, people seemed to think it was okay so I’ll leave it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif -

I find it very arrogant when I’m on a forum, and a poster happens to post something that has already been addressed, and all the regulars get testy and tell the poor person "that’s already been asked". https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif My regulars are FANTASTIC about helping out anyone who posts even if its a repeat, they give advice and let them know of other threads that might be of more help without being condescending. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif Thanks guys https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
I agree, thats just awful when I see that! Its so unwelcoming to jump all over a person because of something silly like a repeat post. It turns me off to a lot of Forums, people who have been around a long time get all high & mighty and have an attitude with the "newbies". Its SOOO nice not have that here! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
Its so great to be in a place thats welcoming and supportive and gives criticism in the RIGHT way. I hope everyone gets as much enjoyment out of this place as I do. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif
