Not a huge fan of the chopstix. It's definitely impressive on some really flexy people though!

I bought the Brazil shorts with cross cross yesterday. I wear a 4 in lululemon right now and bought a M in badkitty, if that helps. They fit pretty good. I don’t have any butt though. I would get the medium in your shoes! 🙂

QueenJewell My understanding is that once you go above 10ft or so a 1 piece pole is better for safety reasons. The place with the 12ft ceilings is a loft with those exposed steel beams, so an xpole wouldn't be suitable there. I love my xpole and would actually go with a place with a lower ceiling to keep it probably! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Thanks for all the great answers! Ladies with poles 8ft and under I really feel your pain. I am 5'7 so my pole is much too short now. One time I fan kicked the ceilings from the floor, dented my ceiling, chipped my shoe and fell on my butt.

It seems like 9 – 10 ft is the ideal. So far two places with 12 ft ceilings have come up, but being in Canada it would probably be a PITA to get a one piece pole shipped here just to use it in one apartment!

You should be stretching just about every time you do pole. If you do other exercises that may tighten the muscle (running, powerlifting, etc) then you should be stretching then as well. Bottom line, splits aren't something you get, they're something you do. You have to keep working if you want to keep doing them. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Tongue in cheek: if you don't keep doing them, you could hop on your pole one day and end up like THIS:

I have been working on SG ayesha for a long time too, I find my legs get stuck I've managed to get it once or twice in a freedance.  I would suggest work on your split grip straddle right side up, pushing yourself away from the pole and bringing up your legs to mimic the ayesha posture as much as possible. Also work on your caterpillar for balance and squaring the hips.

To get into the actual ayesha pose, emotioncatcher showed a good tip for releasing the knees in caterpillar but keeping the ankles crossed as you move towards extending the legs. A studio instructor also taught us to go into archer (like extended butterfly with the inside of the foot gripping the pole) then bring that into a pike with the pole betwen our feet and go from there. For me that got me squared enough and pulled away enough from the pole to take my legs off.

Can you do deadlift elbowstands? Working the descent of a straddle elbowstand will probably help you to get the feeling of engaging the lower abs and tucking the pelvis.

Thanks so much for the tips guys. Swinging the leg wide and really making sure it clears the pole first sound like solid solutions. I'm going to give them a try tonight and report back! 😀

Reenie, I can't tell you how many times I have viewed Amy and EmotionCatcher's videos on the subject of superman. LOL. I have a youtube playlist so I can just play them over and over, haha. Those vids are a great resource.

    Thx chemgoddess!

Reenie: I find I either don't have enough room, or I collapse behind/into the pole. I would love to post a video, but I don't have access to my webcam right now! 🙁

Bulgarian split squats and plie squats are great for glutes and can be done with bodyweight. In either squat you want to be sure to engage the glutes so that your quads aren’t doing all the work. You could also give some leg lifts a go, perhaps on all fours and try straightening and lifting your leg as high as you can, then slowly and with control bring your straight leg back to the floor!

I also have problems with this, for me I hate having my head hanging completely down. I fell on my face as a kid and damaged my teeth, as I result I have a very weak and very expensive veneer on my front tooth I don't want to break! =D I also have a 7' home pole, so I totally get where you're coming from.

For me I try to aerially invert then hang out in a move I'm comfy in, like a right side leg hang or inverted crucifix, but making sure I'm looking down. I also try to practice handstands a lot.

Get PVC or vinyl not latex. Metals degrade latex. You will end up with stains all over your latex or worse it will break.

Lina, when you put latex clothing on you either talc or lube your body first so it doesn't stick so bad. =P Then you lube or spray the outside as you mentioned. Some people use that spray on car lube stuff. Once shined up latex belongs nowhere near your pole. I once did a latex cosplay that I shined in the same room as my pole, the pole and floor were mega slippery for weeks.

January 28, 2013 at 5:53 pm in reply to: X-Pole Customer Service …. which, apparently, is non-existent

    Thank you DixiePixie.

I don't think there is anything wrong with encouraging a culture of informed consumers. You may look at it as "ranting online" but what about when we're raving about a product or service? I've tried to behave in a balanced way throughout the process of informing other customers about my issues with the brass X Pole and ultimately having it replaced. I understand that the associate I spoke with probably views me as a difficult customer, and since she is aware that I did complain directly to X Pole (and was funneled back to the original representative) is probably not pleased with me. I think the problem is that these people have specific job titles and responsibilities that aren't related to customer service, as such they aren't fully invested in customer care. The solution would be to appoint a customer care team, or if the business isn't big enough a customer care leader or task-force.

Because I hear so many good things about this particular contact at X Pole I don't want to complain directly to the owner of the company and risk her position. I know in my case I was asking a lot and I don't think that would be fair. I work with CEOs and owners of major retail businesses and I know if a consumer lodged a complaint they would take it seriously because (as we are seeing in this thread) consumers are more likely to share negative experiences, and it reflects poorly on their brand.

As far as "freebies" and "replacements" I think at that point in a customer service experience you're affecting future revenues and your brand image, obviously in most cases the money is already spent – unless the consumer is really peached off and files a charge-back. Personally I spend a lot of time in studios, I'm outgoing and talk to everyone I meet about my experiences, I'm active in social media, and up until very recently worked in the fitness industry. I represent continued sales potential for X Pole through referral marketing. If you treat your clients like a one-off you aren't going to make it far in business.

They are being put forth by the company as customer service representatives – handling customer care is their job. The assertion that the client should put themselves in the shoes of a person paid to assist them as a response to lackluster service is ridiculous. Imagine applying that logic to any other industry? What if you bought a studio class and the instructor was too busy to teach the class at the scheduled time? Or she wanted you to come to her house because it was too close to Christmas holidays?

I didn't want to post this online, because even though it took almost a year they fixed it eventually. X Pole, one associate specifically, made me wait and wait to receive a response about an issue related to product quality, not something I could have looked up on the website. From my initial complaint the responses I received were snippy, dismissive, and even at times insulting. Even while I continue to respond to emails courteously and considerately. Everyone else I have dealt with at X Pole has been fabulous, especially Stephanie.

As a customer it is not my job to contact the vendor in the most convenient way possible for whichever individual employee. It's not my job to chase and chase somebody who is paid to support this vendor's product. If I treated any of my clients like this I would not have an income stream.

It would appear that X Pole has a dedicated customer service team, they should create support tickets and try to weight the customer service rep with the brunt of these issues as opposed to these operations essential employees.

Upandover check out my post about the X Pole brass. A classmate and I both complained about our brass X Poles as soon as we got them. It took a long time, but X Pole replaced the pole pieces for both of us.

If that's not an option you can polish the matte finish brass up – X Pole put a guide on their youtube channel. Because you are in Taipei it would probably be less expensive for you to polish it as opposed to having new pieces shipped, right?

I remember there was a lot of confusion when the brass xpole first came out. Some people attributed the bizarre finish to that one email from an xpole tech that was circulated saying that the pole was "brass plated". I think the two issues got confused and some people, especially customers outside of the main xpole markets are still getting the old finish. I know the Canadian warehouse stocks kits in the new finish and extensions in the old finish.

Based on the comments from SBS on the video page it isn't going to be available outside of Australia. 🙁

My boyfriend hooked me up with vpn.hidemyass.com to watch it. Neither of us have any affiliation with that company, they are just one of the select few VPN services with a server in Australia.

I have had the same problems with X Pole customer service since September. Nobody would return my calls, if I got somebody on the phone they would ask me to email them instead, then they'd ask me to email back in 30 days, a week, whenever was convenient for the employee. I would follow-up and my emails would go unanswered, or they'd ask to be contacted via another avenue. After 4 months of this back and forth I managed to get a response via email asking me to CALL during their PST operating hours. Eventually I looked up Stephanie, emailed her directly and my issue was handled within 1 hour. I was able to pick up my replacement pole the next day (I had a different issue than OP, but still). I'm very happy that my issue was speedily resolved, and that X Pole assisted me with the issue, period. As for the first four months: X Pole really needs to work on treating their customers as clients instead of operating as if they are doing customers a service.

Can those of us who purchased the old brass xpole finish, complained about it, and told we were wrong/out of luck exchange our poles for the new finish? After investing so much in the original brass xpole and basically being told there was nothing to be done and that the grip was fine it is pretty frustrating to see you change it.
