Though off and on streching over the years I have manged to go from no flexibility being able to do the splits two ways still working on the center splits, and can do oversplits when I have my left leg leading. You can get there it just takes more or less time depending on how much you work at it.

MemberApril 25, 2011 at 2:56 pm in reply to: Shoulder problems restrict certain moves… help?I second chemgoddess1 on the massage therapist. He or she can be your best friend when it comes to things like that. Just be sure that they are experianced in deep tissue massage and to specify where your having issues. I have also been known to go to a sports chiropractor when a joint really starts acting up and causing me pain. Saved my but when my wirst started acting up and I couldnt so much as open up my makeup or a jar at times. One session and it still feels great weeks later.
Also make sure you are streatching your shoulders every day.
As for the clicking have you injured your shoulders before?

MemberApril 15, 2011 at 4:18 pm in reply to: Are you watching the new Americas best dance crew? You should be!I obviously had been really looking forword to this. But I have to say Im with just about everyone else here….it just wasnt working. I mean on one hand I am very happy to see that we made it to prime time TV, and millions of people got to see what pole dancing really is, which is a step forword in my opinion. I just wish it could have been…well no disrespect to Ja6ged, better? I have seen though watching many of the woman, and men on here videos, let alone the YT vidoes I have seen where, if they had been more experianced they may have been able to blow the judges away. They all have training in ballet, jazz, hip hop, ect. They could have easily encoporated some of that into their performance, but they didnt.
My husband who acutally watched it when it came on and recoded it for me to watch when I got home from work thinks that they may have choked in a way. They got the song, had already see what the performers last we had done and just didnt live up to their potential, sense they do all have background in dance. I think that they just got way too hung up on trying to make it not look sexy that they forgot that it still had to blow the judges minds.
What JC said was compleatly right, especially about the walking around. D-Trix, I didnt realy care for his nipple comment but you do have to cut the guy some slack he was dumbfounded. I really think he was trying to to insult the girls and say it was just a bad perfomance and didnt know what to say so he just blurted out whatever came to mind.
As for the interview (thank you Veena for posting that). I am a bit shocked on how it seems like they just blew off what the judges said. Maybe its just me, but it sounded like they were pretty much saying "Oh the judges dont know what they were talking about and just voted them off because we pole dance." Altho what kinda ticked me off what them being asked if their song selection if they felt it was a set up, and them agreeing. I was embarrased for them watching that interview. Ladies you were in a dance competion, and I really didnt see much dance, pole or otherwise.
But either way, it was nice to see on nation tv. But it just didnt fit in with what ABDC is about, and I wish it had been showcased a bit better.
Sorry for the novel, just wanted to get all that off my chest.

MemberApril 12, 2011 at 7:47 am in reply to: Almost getting a move (progress) then losing it 🙁Thats not uncommon at all! Actually it tends to happen with most new moves, I will be getting the trick over and over again, take a break, then I cant repeat the trick to save my life and am forced to start all over agian. Its also happened with moves I used to be able to do blindfolded and one hand behind my back (metiforically of course) and just not doing the trick in so long that I lost the trick and was forced to compleatly relearn a trick. (The latter happened with my elbow grip ayisha, and superman). Almost have it back again. But the one that gave me the most issues like what your talking about was the knee hold.
Just dust yourself off, yell at your pole for being difficult, and do a fun session with some of your favorite moves. Then go back to it. You WILL get there again.

I just wanted to say: Thank you for creating this thread!
I hadnt even heard of foam rollers before, and after reading everything everyone has said decided to buy one almost a week ago, and its already my best friend. Its wonderful for my poor legs, and when I use it on my back it pops it nearly everytime becides reducing some of the knots. I just picked up the golds gym one from walmart, its cheeper then most of them online I think (paid $15) Im totally with Sassafrassle with the IT band, worst enemy there but it hurts so good. 🙂
Ive just use the litte guide that came with my roller and looking up some YT videos. But I do have a question for someone who has more experiance with them. Is there a good way of getting at your inner thigh (esp the upper part) I havent been able to find any videos or anything on that part of my leg. Any tips?

MemberApril 11, 2011 at 4:35 am in reply to: don’t want to lose weight…nutrition help pleaseI have always struggled to keep weight on me. As strange as this may sound, I've found drinking 2 slim fast shakes a day really helps. A lot of people use them to loose weight as a meal replacemnt. But Ive found you can use them as just the opposite. Eat like normaly would, but drink a slim fast in the morning and one towards the end of the day, or whenever you get around to it. Thats just when I drink them. They are packed with calories and vitamins and such and actually dont taste as bad as some of the other "healthy" drinks out there.

Im good with some things but Im always paranoid trying something new for fear it will give me that reaction.

I had one back when I was 16 for precancerous cells on my cervix. For me becuase I was young at the time, and obviously not used to having my bits looked at in the fist place, I was put under durring the procedure. (I had no problem with the biopsy was awake the whole time) Well I go to the hospital, get put under, the whole nine yards. When I woke up I was in the most terrible pain of my life (they gave me 2 shots of morphine for it) and sent me home with some antibiotics and pain medicine. I was bed ridden for 2 weeks before I was able to return to school and such, but was sore for about a month in total. If your going to be awake for it, it may be different but thats what I went though.

I would agree with the poster above me, you are not getting near enough momentum to keep your spins going. But to me I also need to ask: Were you wearing any lotion/body oils? (even if you had put them on earlier that day) Remember lotions and oils + poling never mix and you cant get a grip. I would also try giving your pole a good cleaning just in case. Good luck figuring it out!

I try to drink lots of water, but I end up chronically dehydrated anyways.I have tried using straws, bottles, big bottles, reminders, having my husband nagg me…*chuckles* and nothing works. I am the same way with any liquids. To be honest if I have a glass of anything besides red bull its…well its a very rare occasion (think once a month if that). I really dont know why, but I just never get thirsty EVER. The only reason I know I am dehydrated all the time is because my lips are cracked almost all the time. I dont even drink anything with my meals! Any tips on how to fix this?

I would tend to agree with polergirl. Look at your grips. It sounds like you are grabbing the pole wrong during one of your tricks. Go though and examine all of your tricks one by one and find the one or more then one that is messing your wrist up. Remember, improper grip can cause not just wrist pain, but sprains/twists and worse you can break your wrist with improper grip. Be careful, and although you may hate to hear it, take a few days off the pole and let your wrist heal. Good luck figuring it out!
