@Lucca Valentine Oh, it was a cross ankle release on a spinning pole? Well, that makes me feel better; at least the move was more difficult than what I thought (or from that one article I read).
I agree with what everyone is saying. I think the key, for me, is conditioning. Unfortunately, I can’t practice moves at home (besides conditioning) because I have an unbearably low ceiling (6’4″) and can’t really install a pole at that height.

I would like discussions arranged by topic.

Does anyone have any recommendations for installing in a pole in a basement with a really low ceiling? Like REALLY low…6’4″. Would it be pointless?

What a beautiful kitchen you have! Gorgeous walls, floors, everything! Looks like it’s out of a magazine. Honestly, I am jealous!

Thanks everyone for your replies, especially Veena. They made me feel better and put things in perspective, specifically how many times a week one would need to practice to see quicker results. I go to class twice a week and don’t have a pole at home so class is the only time I can practice.

I’m frustrated too. I’ve been taking classes since the summer, and while I have improved as my strength increased, I feel like some things are taking longer than they should. I am terrified of handstands. I just started getting comfortable with a ckr, while holding my foot, some simple spins are hard for me because I just can’t get my body to duplicate what my instructor’s does. I’m not graceful at all even with the moves I can do. I never was a good dancer, so this might have to do with the disconnect between what my eyes see and how my brain translates that to my body.

Saeth, it might very well be a technique problem, but when you can’t get up the pole far enough without cringing in pain, it’s very hard to focus on improving technique. While I still struggle with climbs, I found that the ankle protectors helped me grip and minimize the discomfort enough so i could get up the pole so that I could focus on leg positioning.
-
Also, alternate the foot that is used to push into the pole so that all the stress isn’t repetitively put on the same foot.
-
Get the ankle protectors with tack from Mighty Grip. They will protect the top of your foot and make climbing easier, due to the tack. They helped me get less bruising from climbs.

I have no space in my house at all. Well, I might have SOME room in the basement if I clear everything out, but my ceiling down there is extremely low…6’4″ low.

Thank you for the tips, Lucca Valentine!

Gorgeous top and shorts. But I think the blue shoes would have more of an impact alone, without the garter.

Any tips or modified climbs for skinny-legged people? When I climb I barely use my legs for support because gripping hurts too much. Is this just the nature of the beast and just learn to deal with it? Side climbs are easier for me.
