Keep going. The Pole community is a wonderful place where women (and men) can be in an environment where "potential and progress relative to the unique individual" is what matters. I started Poling in my 40s.. My first class I just watched everyone else, but now I just want to figure out what I am tring to learn and I dont even pay attention to what other people look like or what they are doing in general. (unless its a really cool trick and I'm trying to figure out how to do it) In a class situation everyone is excited for someones' improvement. Not who is "the best." As you get deeper into pole you will realize that there are all "types" in pole, buts that what we love about pole. Breaking the boundries of perception of one "should or could do."

MemberMarch 17, 2013 at 8:45 am in reply to: Pole Dance Fitness Training/CertificationsIn my opinion a certification doesn’t always guarantee that someone will be a great teacher. A great teacher will always seek out ways to improve their teaching skills. And…just because someone can do a “trick” doesn’t mean they can teach it. A great teacher needs to be able to understand the steps and process of the movement.
The teachers I would be cautious of are the ones that think they don’t need to be an expert in there craft. They are the ones who think that since They can do the move or They might be a great performer equals great teacher. -

Everyone is so unique. Aye jay.. I have a 45mil platinum stages stainless..a 50 ill mynx coated and a 50 mil ill mynx stainless.. I’ve used my friends xpoleus stainless and that was super slippery for me..the lilmynx stainless is 2nd in the slip factor, and my PS is 3rd on the slip factor.. Sometimes my ill mynx has so much grip it will rip my skin off. I can’t even climb brass for some reason..so so slippery for me.
My point..I live near San Diego..you can try mine if u want..

I own a pilates and aerial fitness studio…students should never be allowed to instruct other students..period. The instructor of the class should be telling all the students to please wait for her assistance. It also sounds like you belong in a more advanced class. It sounds like you are not really being challenged enough.

I had one on my wrist for a bit…it’s from trauma to the area…leave it alone and It will probably go down. You can ice it a little to reduce the swelling. It’s your bodies ways of saying slow down..
I also ended up with a very large cyst behind my knee that I had drained a couple of times, but eventually needed to removed. It was a big surgery with pt afterword and a recovery time as if the had actually done knee surgery.. Avoid surgery if you can…it is never as simple as you think it will be.

Tk Chem…I will work on it more tomorrow

Makes sense..practiced a little..seemed a little better…have to watch the vid to see if it looks any better..sometimes I’m like …”that was so cool” and then watch the vid and say “I’m such a dork”

I have grip issues from dry skin and was considering a brass pole… PS sales rep made a good point….you can always add a grip ad if you need it, but you can’t take it away. I only use my powder coated pole for newbie students….and they eventually always prefer the stainless.. Xpoleus 40 only comes in limited finishes up to 11feet.. I’m pretty sure. Lilmynx does come up and down quickly and I have never felt it was unsafe…but I do regularly check all my poles.

Bend the torso away from the pole? Or wrap it around more? I agree…too much pressure on outer shin the way I am doing now

I have a ?…I have probs with the short version too…but it’s the outside of the lower leg that hurts on me…it is slightly less if I Doris flex my foot…which looks horrible. Any suggestions?

If you have a confirmed rib fracture the bones take about 6 weeks to mend….IF…a big IF you do not interfer with the mending process. Do as little as posssible to make sure that they heal the fastest..but you cannot spead up the process of how the body rebuilds and repairs the bones. You certainly can slow it way down…walking, rolling over in bed, breathing too deeply can interfer with that process…Especially in the beginning. You start back at a big 0 if you mess up the aliginment. Chill out for 1 month…then be very careful for another month. Start back on the pole in 2 months. That's if you dont mess them up in that time.

You should visit some studios in your area to see what they do and what they charge. Congrats on your new venture. If your ceilings are too high you are going to compromise the safety of students if you get poles that have too many pieces.

I contacted the guy from Pole Sleeves and he said that they are made from a rubber latex material. So…if you allergic to latex that might be a problem.

I broke two ribs with the allegra..I was off the pole for months……that snap is very bad. Ribs take forever to heal…I am very short waisted…some moves are not for everybody. You bones will never win when push comes to shove on the pole.. Remember.."you must bend around the pole," because the pole is going to stay just like it is.

MemberJanuary 7, 2013 at 8:07 am in reply to: Stainless Steel Finishes…Differences?i dont think there is a "perfect' pole….It will change with the weather. If you get a pole with too much grip..(you might love that as a beginner but not when you gt more advanced) it will rip your skin off. I think most of the polers out there end up getting more than 1 type of pole. I think the industry is moving away from the 2inch poles and going a little smaller.
So…I would recommend going with a good company..you will love it and hate it sometimes. Xpole, lilminx, and PS…are all good company's. (I'm sure there are more….but I dont know anything about those.) Since you do not like the TG…dont get that one. I personally Love my 45 PS the best…but I think I have heard great stuff about Xpole Chrome. Lil minx Coated poles are verys easy to get up and down and have a tone off grip…My beginners love them…and when my skin is ubber dry I can still pole on my coated.
To wind it up…..there is a reason that almost every poler has a mix off products in their pole bag… Dry hands, Itac, ., cramers, corn huskers, pole cleaner…..on and on.

My two cents would be…dont try to teach them too much. Make it a balanced workout so they dont get injured. Pay a little more attention to the shy one and try to slow down the "star" of the class. Make sure you can have simple enough stuff to modify so that everyone can feel successful and let them know that Pole is a Moody "B"…some days it's great and others it is not and you might never know why. Also..everybody has strength and weaknesses, be positive and point out what they are doing right..
Congrats

MemberDecember 20, 2012 at 7:30 am in reply to: Barre fitness vs Pole fitness workouts? Not all Barre classes are created equal. I personally think that Pure Barre can be hard on some body types. The positions they put you in are not the best for your joints. So if you cant tolerate the "tweaked" position you might get injured. Try one and see if it suits you. I would suggest try taking a Pilates class too at qualified studio.
That being said….many fitness facility's have jumped on the "Barre" bandwagon to generate more income without adequate training. They send an instructor out to take some classes and them become an "expert" in themselves. It's too bad that you have to be a smart consumer and weed through the good and bad. Fitness is not a regulated industry. Buyer beware.

Okay…here are some real solutions for you O….get mind/body online… make your clients sign and out online and then you can control the pre sign up or sign out. Their accounts will be online and they can take responsibility in their class schedule. I tell my clients that "if" I can fill their spot with another client then I will not charge them a late cancel fee, This motivates them to let me know as soon as they can after the 24 hour cancellation policy has closed. this will also give you the option to not charge them if you feel it is a worthy late cancel….
Lock the door when class starts…let the students know that at "whatever point" no one is going to open that door…so if you are late too bad. (you can be nicer than that)
Even though I keep my phone in me all the time…my clients know I have a 24 hour return text or call policy…so if I am sleeping or something I do not call them back of course.. I do it in the morning. Returning a text or call as soon as possible is very important. They are never mad at me if it takes a couple of hours or whatever to return a message.
I've also noticed that you are getting a lot of business advice from people who do not own a studio.. Choose you advice wisely. Being an employee/independant contractor is a lot different than the actual owner. I've had instructors in the past think they have my business all figured out…I just let them know in a nice way that until you walk a mile in my shoes you dont know. i usually say something like… "That sounds like a great idea. I will consider it." This is not to offend anyone, but I was once an instructor myself only and I thought I had it all figured out…hmmm.. I really didnt.. I figure it out every day with every new situation.

Hi all,
I'm sure has notices and policys…People do what people do. It is easy to say do this or do that, but when it comes to the "politics" of keeping clients…and keeping them happy. It's a whole new ball game. I think this is one reason why business owners have a hard time. If you are not inspired by your business/job…then it is either time delegate out what you dont want to do..(or perhaps what you dont do well) to someone who can.
But remember one thing..No one will care about or business, or treat it as well as you do. Never ever. I manage everything that goes on in my business and the days I want to crawl in a whole and die I just decide to dig in a little harder and do a little more. Even when I am not there I have my phone on so that anyone can reach me. Every client has my personal cell phone. Every client is special, and every client has a unique personality and a way they prefer to communicate. In a service business that is key. It IS A 24 HOUR 7 DAYS A WEEK type of thing.
Good luck and follow your heart
