I am coming to Pole from Silks. I use a single point aerial sling at home. I am brand new at Pole and not sure what all I can do yet. I am going to take the Lessons. I love love my Silks. The upper body strength is very important. That is what I had to work on when I started Silks. I have killer leg strength and that did help but you really need that upper body or you cannot climb. You will love Silks !!! Let us know how you do.

@JeHanne, I agree and you are fortunate to have worked at such a place. But that is not how it flies at my place of employment. I found Academia to be more open minded about appearance when I was in Research. I am hoping to be done working in this arena the next 2 years so I will not longer have to worry about it : )

I think Dreads are soooo sexy on men and women both. They are against the rules at my work along with piercings and you have to keep tats covered. So much for Corporate America. I am sure there is a proper way to care for Dreads. I say go for it !!!

Thank you for the responses. I appreciate you so much !!  GOOD NEWS!!

I do believe it is different for boys than girls.

My son said he was fine with it. He said he understands it is " for exercise". I noticed he did not make much eye contact with the Pole. So I did not push it. He acted like it was no biggie. He was impressed that I installed it myself. I explained I can take it down and put it back up with ease.

So all is cool for now. I am relieved. He knows I am a firm believer in keeping moving and exercising.

Interesting you bring up your brothers. I have two older brothers. They both live out of State so it is not like they will be dropping by. Thank God. : )     I need a glass of wine.

Thanks so much everyone. I have to say this group is awesome !!!

    Runemist,

I suffered terribly from anxiety and social phobia when I was younger. I no longer have it but it really controlled my life for years. One of my 3 children suffers from it as I did. Mine was definately hormone related and diet related. Hypnotherapy tapes really helped me.  Know you are not alone and you will get through it.  Be gentle with yourself and Love yourself.

Please do not give up. I am signing up for the lessons on the first of the month. My 1st pole is being set up this weekend.

I felt the same way when  I took my first Aerial Class. I was shocked at my lack of upper body strength. I could not do crap !!!  I was almost in disbelief. I thought I would climb and invert with ease. Boy was I in for a suprise !!!  I have been working on my upper body strength now for 6 months for Aerials and I have improved. It is still a work in progress.

So now I am prepared and realize how difficult Pole may be for me. It will not be a shock and I will take the classes and learn how I can increase my strength and flexability. I am really excited about the lessons. Please do not give up and take a look at these wonderful lessons on here.

No way are you quiting !!!!!

I love St Ives Apricot scrub. I use it every day to exfoliate. Being older and growing up on the beach I have to stay on top of my skin care. There are 2, one is for blemishes and one is for exfoliation.

I will have to try the ELF Eyelid Primer. I usually use MAC's primers. But will give it a try.

Will try the Stiletto Mascara.  Love talking beauty products !!!!  Thanks !!!

Aerial Silks led me to this Group. I am so glad because I just got my first Pole !!!!  After reading all the posts and meeting others in this Awesome Community I am awaiting my Pole to be installed and then I will sign up for the lessons.. I Hoop and do Silk Hammock and now I hope to learn Pole.

I am from So Cal but now live in Arkansas.  Frankly we have no classes, no teachers, and no studios here that I am aware of in North Central Arkansas. Anyone from Arkansas? Please jump in and let me know where you are located? It is so maddening.

I took a Silks Class as someone was passing through teaching a workshop about 2 hours below me. A one time deal and I fell in love.  So now I practice carefully at home and at the Park. I researched and researched and am using a Manual to learn. When I get my Arm strength up I will  fly out of State to take some Studio Lessons.   I purchased my Aerial Hammock from Aerial Empowerment who is a member on this site. I purchased my Silk Hammock from Hope McCurdy an actual Performer and I feel she knows safety and what she is talking about..

I guess what I am trying to say is some of us do not have a choice but to take online classes or learn online due to where we live or our situations. I am fortunate I can afford to travel for workshops. Many cannot do this.  That could change tomorrow.  You have to use your head and not practice alone and learn in a progressive way.  I am really pleased with the Silk Hammock Manual I am using from Rebekah Leach.

    Hope that helps. OzarkSiren

Very good topic. My twins are graduating college this Fall and they are being told to shut down their FB pages while job shopping. This topic is being dicussed in College.  I had a friend who just lost out during a job interview due to the partying pictures he had on his FB Page. They told him straight up why he did not get the job.  Depends on the Company you interview with.

I am an RN but work for a large Pharma Company. My Boss is really really really Religious and judgmental and no way would I want him to know anything I do because yes I do believe it would cause me problems. I do not have anyone from my work on my FB page and I have my security set tight. Too many tattle tales who like to run to the Boss so I just make a rule about coworkers at my main job. I keep my tattos, hobbies, spirituality, love of wine drinking, relationship status away from work. Less is best at my place of work.   Love you all !!!

I had my belly button pierced twice and both times it grew out. My body just slowly rejected it. No redness or infection the skin just got thinner and thinner. Took about a year.  I was really bummed about it.  One of my daughter's did the same thing after 3 times. My ears are double pierced since I was 12 and no problems at all.  I may try one more time. : )

I do not know anything about the drops and all the forms of HCG out there. I am an RN and years ago worked at a diet clinic on the side that gave the shots for weight loss. I myself would not do them due to the injections were hormone based and too many unknowns of long term effects. Also truthfully everyone was put on a very restricted diet. So was it the shots or the diet? Also people gained the weight right back.

I am older and have hypothryoidism and take medication for that. I have to watch everything I put in my mouth now which I hate but have to deal with.  I limit my carbs, sugar and alcohol. I do cardio everyday even if it is just a 2 mile fast walk. Once a month I do raw foods for a week. Juices, fruits, raw veggies and nuts.

Make sure your thyroid levels TSH, T3 adn T4 are in the percentile they should be. Also try to jump start your metabolism with an increase in cardio or raw food fast for a few days. You can check with your Doctor about the HCG.    Hope this helps !!

Beautiful and Amazing !!! Thanks for posting this.

  • Okay Ladies, I turned 59 on July 2nd and I was like how did that happen??? LOL !!! and I do/learning Aerials. Want to start Pole again. I love all forms of dancing. I also Hoop and want to learn Fire Hooping.

I find my upper body strength is not what is once was. So I do weights, push ups, pull ups, hand grip exercises, and any arm and upper body exercises I can. Yoga helps also.  But I keep after it everyday. My leg strength is great. I am on a competitive clogging team so my legs are strong.

Women need to keep moving and exercising. When you enter into the Menopause years your energy does drop for a while and you can lose muscle mass. The best thing you can do is keep exercising, weight and strength training and clean up your diet. I feel really good but have to watch my carbs and sugars in my diet or I gain easily. Important to keep your flexibility and agility. You have to keep moving.

I hope this helps someone. Never give up and know you can be Hot at any age. Hope you get your Mom's to the Pole !!!

    Love, Ozarksiren

I like Amazing Meal Protein Shakes. They are raw, gluten free, Vegan, dairy free and no sugar added. 10 Grams of full spectrum plant protien. Probiotics, Fiber, Antioxidants and so on.

I get mine at Whole Foods in the US. The company website is Amazinggrass.com.

This shake is pricey but I like it. I am not Vegan but I love the ingredients and feel great when I drink it on a regular basis.    Hope this helps someone. Ozarksiren
