I decided on I Put a Spell on You by CCR for the first one.
For the second, even though it’s from 1964, Fleur convinced me to use Oh Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison. I think it will be fun, although it’s way faster than I usually dance. A challenge for me to be sure!
    Thanks for asking!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I love how amyxshi explained her thoughts on this. (I love *everything* about amyxshi, just btw! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif )
I have always preferred dancing to slow songs because, when I dance to fast ones, I tend to rush my moves and don’t finish them as nicely.
Just had a class with Zoraya on Thursday and one of her favorite lines, that I’m TOTALLY stealing, is, "Show it off." Meaning, get in a position, and hold it. If you’re totally comfortable in a hold, just stay there as long as you can. Change your leg, change your hands, grind your hips. But hold it!
She also likes to say, there is a move in between every two moves. Meaning, as you go from one move to the next, there is a move in between–a chance to be polished and beautiful.
I teach my Sultry Pole students to do everything with intention. Make it look like every single movement is a planned move. Nothing is prettier.

    Did anyone tape my show??

    Allegra

Allegra, sweetie, yes, I did!! I am just swamped with work and haven’t had time to edit and post. I’m giving my memory card to Amber tonight and–since she’s now on spring break and has free time–she is going to do it for me. You were stunning! So hang on, it’s coming soon!

Hey everyone!!! Glad to see everyone is enjoying the USPDF videos I put up. Like I told people on FB. Enjoy it while it lasts before they take it down. I had a blast in NYC and chillin and meeting new polers. I am upset that Jessalynn didn’t place but then again I’m biased.lol….Overall It was a great show. I can’t wait until next year:)

Hey Guccichic, can you post them on SV as well, so that when YT takes them down they can still be seen?? Just a thought. Thanks for posting!

BlueEyes, you must have been in Brook’s workshop with me! I LOVED it and her. Sorry we didn’t get to say hi.

Yes, she said that transitions and flow count for 4 out of the 10 total points. Difficulty and tricks count only for 1 point of the 10. Alethea, according to the judges, was the only one who they thought had smooth transitions–i.e., you couldn’t see her "thinking" about placing her feet and hands here and here.

Alethea dislocated her kneecap stretching too quickly. She thinks it’s likely that she has become so loose and flexible with all her contortion work that everything has just loosened up and it slipped out. She popped it back in and went on. (She’s not superhuman though–she’s in pain and stiff and limping and headed to a doctor soon.)

Call me biased (BIASED!) but I’m kinda surprised no one has said more about Amber’s routine! I know she will post a version so everyone will see. She told a story, switching from ballet and pointe shoes to leopard print and hot-as-hell part way through. She was stunning and you all will love it. She did have a couple of slip ups, as did almost every competitor this year actually. Just tells you how high the bar has been set and how hard they are all pushing!

I saw a USPDF entry video that just A-MAZED me I thought she was like the sexiest woman alive…

That’s Lian Tal, owner of Body and Pole. See the thread on "pole crushes"–meeting her last year and seeing this performance of Control done live firmly cemented her as my crush. She’s also *beyond* nice!! Are you coming to USPDF? You can meet her!

    Fun idea!
Mine was probably cross ankle release. I remember being taught it, and when they showed it the first time I said, No FUCKING Way!!
Then, when I started watching vids on YT, it was the ballerina. I couldn’t imagine twisting like that. Now I’m really good at it and my students hate that I’m always trying to get them to do it.
And finally, it was aysha. HOW could you possibly take your legs off the pole??!! I rock it now. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

Spring Break in the US is a 10 day or so period when colleges are off school and students traditionally go somewhere warm and beachy to drink a lot and act like morons in general. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
Almost anyone who went to college on the east coast did the drive to Florida, stay in a motel, drink a ton and do embarassing crap thing at least once. MTV even started spending spring break week on site usually in Florida or Texas, having beach parties with girls in teeny bikinis parading around to bad hip hop music.
So, as V said, you could dress in something that means beach party to you. And music that means the same.

    Hey Sis
Yes, I meant getting from place to place. For healthy people (provided it isn’t -30 and snowing), walking is a great way to cover most of the city. We’re staying about 16 blocks from the NYPD studio for example, so will likely walk to and from workshops.
There’s always subway, but still walking a bit to get to and from stops.
For you, I’d plan on taking a lot of taxis door to door. As amyxshi said, driving is essentially not an option.

    Hey Foxy,
So, last year in NY for the workshops everyone was in their usual workout wear: tiny or booty shorts, tanktops, sportsbras, heels.
To the competitions I’ve worn nice jeans and a shirt: in NY it was a long-sleeved Poletential tee, in LA it was our "Amber Rocks the Pole" t shirt!
For the afterparty people tended to doll up a bit more. However, this year the afterparty is close to the theater, so it may be that we go straight there from the comp depending on time (???) If so, I’ll be there in my jeans and Amber t-shirt! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

So, I’m thinking we all need to make ourselves nametags we can wear all weekend.

    Hello, My Name Is…
    Ellen aka Ottersocks

How funny would that be? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

At the very least, when you’re in a workshop, be sure to ask out loud if there are any other SVers in the room! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_compress.gif

The StudioX (jpa) Gals will be with Poletential too!! WOOOT! I know heather is like SUPER stoked about going =) its all she talks about ^^ This will be my first time ever in NY soo freakin nervous! lol <3

And speaking for the Poletential girls, we can’t wait to meet the JPA girls and all the rest of you! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
    Don’t be nervous. NY rocks.
And as for shopping, a few tips for you:
Comfy shoes. You’re gonna walk your ass off.
A warm coat, could be freezing.
A bag to carry your heels and pole clothes in for workshops. We got Poletential backpacks last year and they were perfect.
NY isn’t terribly casual. I’d rather be overdressed there than underdressed, anyday.

xoxo Ellen (aka Sophie aka ottersocks)

Oh Roxy, I am **SO** with you on Michula. She is such a great person and I’ve had the pleasure of taking classes with her. I actually told Fleur the other day I want to hire Mikey to just dance in front of me for a week. Her style stuns me.
My other pole crush goes back to USPDF last year, when I was thrilled to pole jam at the home of Lian Tal. She is the nicest, warmest, most beautiful woman. And then I saw her USPDF performance! Her routine turned Control by Puddle of Mudd into my most favorite pole song ever. I can’t wait to see her in NY again this year. (And btw, Lian if you’re reading this, sorry to sound so stalker-y!) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Angel, I read the same thing with interest today!
Amy, I totally get motion sick. I actually have a spin tutorial lesson with a friend tomorrow who used to teach at Bobbi’s and is good friends with Allegra. I want to start to try to learn how to overcome this before Allegra’s workshop. So, I plan to wear the acupressure wrist bands that I use when I get pukey in the car. Have you tried them? They sell them in the drugstore right by the dramamine and they definitely work in other places–we’ll see about the pole! I’ll let you know how it goes. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_l.gif

I definitely suffer from this too.
Lately when I freedance it has been very helpful to first think of 5 moves I want to do. You can remember 5 without having to write them down. Then I make sure to throw those 5 in during the dance. Makes a big difference for me! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
