Hi Amy,
I think it sounds like a really cool opportunity. I also think that, if you get further along into it and they want you to do things you aren’t comfy with (costumes, choreo, etc.), you can express your concerns. If they fall on deaf ears, you can walk away, knowing you did the right thing.
That said, if they want you to sign something agreeing to do this blindly and with penalties for pulling out, then don’t do it.
The pay thing wouldn’t bug me too much. You’re in town so it won’t cost you anything–assuming they are covering the costs of whatever costumes they want you to wear.
And I think the shoe thing is fine. You can wear the shoes and still make your dancing classy. You can also dance barefoot and look like total trash. (Not YOU, but I should say "one can…")
Look at it as a chance to do something very fun and to add to your resume that will be rather impressive. I’d say go for it!

And I understand that the workshops at Body and Pole will be less expensive than the USPDF ones, but that’s all I know (other than that B&P is small and there will be a lot of pole sharing….) -

MemberDecember 11, 2009 at 12:43 am in reply to: Resistance Stretching–Check This Out!!!!Yep, shaking means you have tightness in the muscle you’re stretching (not weakness.) When you get the book and are trying this, if you shake, back off on the resistance. You don’t need as much as you’d think. Good luck!

MemberDecember 10, 2009 at 11:26 pm in reply to: Resistance Stretching–Check This Out!!!!Resistance stretching just refers to the stretching technique that’s being used in Cooley’s book/dvd and Dara Torres’ dvd. Basically, it’s the idea of contracting the muscle you’re trying to stretch while you’re stretching it. It both stretches and strengthens the muscle.
No special equipment needed. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Think about "making a muscle" (flexing your bicep.) Now think of someone gently pulling your fist down away from your shoulder while you try to keep your fist at your shoulder. If you RESIST and let them ultimately straighten your arm while you’re keeping tension in your bicep the whole time, you’ve just done a resistance stretch of your bicep. -

MemberDecember 10, 2009 at 10:36 pm in reply to: Resistance Stretching–Check This Out!!!!Hey Sascha
I’d say of the two, go for the DVD.
However–and I keep forgetting to tell everyone this–the resistance stretcher I did the session with **highly**recommended the DVD Dara Torres and her trainers have put out. They do resistance stretching, and she said it is very easy to understand and explains the work very clearly. -
I will say that my powder coated ‘lil mynx can be horrible sometimes, especially when it is warm.
Goddess, can you clarify what you mean? Horrible how? I have a Lil Mynx stainless and have been thinking about getting a custom powder coated to put in my room with 15 foot vaulted ceilings. I thought I’d read that they are much better for gripping, which is what I’d like–not worried about spinning being difficult. I’d love your thoughts. Thanks!
