MemberFebruary 4, 2010 at 4:48 pm in reply to: What’s the Secret to the Cross Ankle Release?Just wanted to add, anatomy seems to play a big role with this move. Those of us who are bowlegged (ME, bigtime) and/or have skinny legs have a harder time getting enough grip at that key P.O.C. spot above the knees. You might find you need to adjust a little higher or lower on the leg to get enough squeeze/grip. Good luck and be safe! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

You’re adorable and that was so much fun to watch! GREAT job!!!
And also…
I love listening to the crowd. Always fun to see what they love (cross ankle release always kills) and what they don’t realize is hard and impressive (ayshas!)
And I loved the guys yelling at the DJ! "You fucked up the song!" HAHAHHAHA! -
Champion makes a decent "dualboob" sports bra that looks pretty good and keeps the ta-tas in place even upside down (AWESOME) with no spillage. There’s a thread on here somewhere about unaboob vs. dualboob bras–that’s how I found out about the Champion bra.
Hey fellow big boobed ladies!!
I had started that thread about sportsbras. I am a natural 32/34 DD, and was very psyched to find the Champion bras as they are not uniboob, look adorable without a shirt on, and provide great support. If you can’t find the thread, ask me, I’ll shoot you the info on the styles I wear.Sapphire, fantastic idea! There is nothing sparkly and cute and supportive for us. My two cents: bear in mind that with natural boobs we don’t just need coverage, we need actual support. It’s my understanding that with implants the girls stand up a bit more and don’t need to be HAULED up into place. My girls need a good bit of help!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

The Poletential crew, which includes me and Fleur among others, is staying at The W New York – The Court. 130 East 39th Street, Between Lexington and Park Avenue. Just a 10 minute walk to Times Square. We’ve got all kinds of clients and friends coming, we’re pretty much taking over Manhattan. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
I hope others end up close by and look forward to meeting you all!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif -
Empy nailed it, as usual! You want a water-based lotion, not an oil-based one.
I am a lotion fiend. Here’s my preferred method:
I apply HEAVY lotion at night. I use a Kiehl’s body lotion that has Argan oil in it. Sometimes, I apply pure Argan oil instead, and then use a heavy severe dry skin creme on my feet and hands and lower legs. I practically slide out of bed!
I shower in the morning. If I know I’m going to be poling that day/evening, I only wash the "important bits." No need to soap up arms and legs, how dirty can they be, really? I apply nothing after my shower. This way, the residual moisturizing from the night before is still there, and my skin sticks to the pole well.
One caveat—if you shave your legs during that morning shower, you’ve removed all the nice soft moist skin, and you will have papery shins. In that case, you can use a light coat of water-based lotion right after your shower, assuming you’re still hours away from poling. You can always use alcohol and a towel to remove any residue before you pole. Or, just wear your favorite dance boots for extra stick! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif -

MemberJanuary 1, 2010 at 12:53 am in reply to: USPDF March 2010 – Pro and Amateur Nationalsdo all the workshops take place in the same studio?
USPDF hasn’t announced yet where their official workshops will be. Last year they were all in the same place, which was studio space they rented in a larger facility, very close to Times Square. NYPD is really small so not optimal.
The Body and Pole workshops will be at their studio, which I believe is in the SoHo area. -

now we need to work on a hotel that’s gonna be close to space theater AND the workshops, which all we know as of now is they are in Manhattan. site says that Feb 1st we will get the exact location…and i think i saw on this thread that they may have a section of a hotel blocked out for ppl with USPDF or something like that https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif im not sure but if so, that’s great…
Hi Jillian
I actually just went online and bought my tickets from the Symphony Space website like a mortal. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif The package I bought was for book two workshops and get a third at a discount.Last year USPDF did offer a group rate at a hotel in NYC. They did the same in LA for the west coast this Fall. They haven’t announced it yet. I’d wait until they do, then take a look at other hotels in the same area and see if their pricing beats it. Earlier in this thread amyxshi and I were talking about how the theater is kinda WAAAAY away from anything else in Manhattan, so you may well choose to stay more centrally located.
Hope that helps! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif -

Terrific article, thanks for sharing!
At our studio we never talk about a move someone "can’t do." Instead, we say they "don’t have it yet." https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
On another note, did you go to Stanford?? I worked there for years! -

MemberDecember 29, 2009 at 9:42 pm in reply to: Wanted: Ideas for USPDF Tix/Travel & Logdging ArrangementsJust some unsolicited advice/food for thought for you…
The area where Symphony Space is doesn’t have much else to offer. That’s a largely residential neck of the woods. USPDF hasn’t announced where the workshops are going to be yet, but last year they were at a studio space within walking distance of Times Square. NYPD is also within walking distance from Times Square.
You might think about staying somewhere a bit more centrally located to make workshops and things like that easier. Likely, the only thing on the upper west side that weekend will be the actual competition.
And, PLEASE—–be sure to look at http://www.tripadvisor.com and thoroughly check out any hotels you are considering in NYC. There are some real hellholes out there!

amyxshi should be able to give you really good advice too. -
Boots without lacing or eyelets up the front do provide a tremendous amount of stick to the pole. Like Steph says, it’s easy to get reliant on them for difficult tricks. They can also be too sticky, and cause problems when you’re trying to slide and can’t. Having said that, they can be tremendously helpful if you’re having a really tired day, or like the judicious use of grip aids, when you’re trying to learn something hard and want a little extra confidence. I have an injured left biceps now and so am using them so I can climb with one hand.

That was very cool. When she leapt off the pole out of that shoulder mount I almost had a heart attack! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif
