Omg I took a workshop with her and LOVED IT!! She’s so inspiring and down to earth. Her and Nic are so supportive and great at teaching. I heard her privates are TOUGH but I love Zoraya. I would love to get a chance to work with her again.

I have ordered from that site and love my pole shorts from them! They did take a little longer since theyre hand made/ shipping from Canada so I can imagine the holidays caused some problems too.

My experience with emailing them was super good though! If you email her she responds quickly and she can let you know what’s happening.

I fly out 1/1/2013. I'm hoping to find something intermed-advanced or even just rent a space out to use the pole to do my own stuff. I tried calling Crescent Lotus and no luck but I'll email the other 2. Thanks for all of your help 🙂

Sorry my phone freaked out! Thus the earlier empty post. Now I'm on a real computer haha:

I personally like just going to one studio all the time for everything. It feels more like a family to me and less like a hobby so maybe that's why. If you're at the level of being an instructor, I imagine this next statement doesn't really apply but here are my thoughts: I don't love when people (I'm specifically referring to students here) who hop studios come to my studio because they walk in and jump right into an Iron X. First off, I'm obviously jealous because I can't do one! haha but secondly, it makes me nervous because that's not how I was taught/my studio teaches. My teacher is really into warming up and building/dancing into things, not just cold jumping into advanced tricks.

That being said, I think as an instructor it might be a personal preference thing. But maybe just being conscious of the tone of each studio.

I take classes at my studio 1-2/week (not including drop ins whenever I can!) and the classes are small (usually I'm in a 3, maybe 4 person class).

Yesterday I had my first private and I LOVED IT!!! I went in with some specific things I wanted to work on and I feel so much better. Since she didn't have to spot anyone else in "invert-land" (lol love this) she was able to really pinpoint.

I'm also a person that really responds well to constructive criticism. I grew up wanting to be a writer so it's just part of the territory there and it sort of stuck with me so I even went in and I asked specifically "you know me better than anyone else, what do I need to work on?!" and she gave me good honest feedback. And because I trust her and I know she knows me, I really appreciated it. And hey- now I know!

She even got to teach me something new because while it was too advanced for all of us in my class, she felt like I was ready for it. It was really really cool. I highly highly recommend it!

Is there a video up of you doing pike? I think thatd be the best route for advice. I cross my ankles for stylistic purposes plus it feels more snug!

Lol I love how you call "5'7" short!! The short people in my studio are 5'2-5'4 and us talleys are 5'8 and up. I'm a tall person myself!

It's funny because my best friend and I pole together and there's such a different in what we feel comfortable in, probably largely due to height!! Inside knee hang is easier for me because I have more skin to grip, outside knee hang is easier for her because it's easier to get her legs wrapped around the pole. I think ultimately though, these little differences are what help people's style be their style!

Although my freakishly long abdomen is proving difficult for jasmine, haha. The grass is greener right?

I got mine from the back of Sheila Kelly’s S factor book that had loads of options. I decided on “Scarlett Summer” and it’s really helpful to get out of my head sometimes and channel my inner vixen! My BFF uses “Bambi bourbon” but we picked these names after our first class so I feel like with time I might “change” mine.

In the book Sheila says she picked stormy because she was going through a stormy time of her life so I like to think of the name reflecting how you felt when you started pole!

What a cool post. Everyone’s got such great advice! I’m child less for now but I’m a nanny and I’m thinking how every park I take the kids to has a pole as part of the playground structure. So if anyone gives you sass you can always be like “well we couldn’t fit the whole jungle gym in our kitchen”.

Haha just a thought that poles are already in playgrounds and I agree with y’all that its adults that bring the judgment!

Good job for taking a big leap! Most people don’t face their fears so it’s very good you’re doing it!

And you say you’re more of a good listener than talker? GREAT! This world seriously needs more good listeners. I wouldn’t see that as a disadvantage at all. When I’m ever in an awkward situation I just ask questions. Most people love talking about themselves (it is our most knowledgeable subject!) and then you never know what mutual interests will come up in conversation.

So the anxiety is normal but you’ll do great! And I’m sure you’ll learn something new from each other. Have fun!
