You've already taken that first big step by actually videoing yourself!
You can now learn from yourself and teach yourself from your recordings. You've seen how your hand looks awkward and you look down too much, both easily correctable things. Get that camera on now and dance, concentrating on looking anywhere but at the floor and thinking about a graceful arm, one that is an extension of the move or walk or twirl that you're doing. After only one more recording you will already see improvement, even if it's only 5 seconds of looking ahead, smiling, with a beautiful arm! This is the place to post your worst videos when you're feeling rubbish about dancing, because where you see awkwardness and repetition, we will see fabulous flexibility, a transition we want to steal, an entry or exit that looked amazing, or even a pair of shoes, outfit or body that is HOT.
Take a deep breath and post your video now, and then get up and dance your socks off concentrating on one thing you want to change, watch and revise. Then post your improvement so we can all cheer and share in your glee 🙂
If you're still unsure, just edit out the bits you really don't like and post the good bits 😉
Do keep the whole video for just you though, it really is useful to look back on and to use to help you improve. My pc is full of vids that I look at and think OMG, how stupid do I look – generally when i'm trying really hard to be sexy or to do damn body rolls that are the bane of my life.
Hope this helps to inspire you a little bit. Make the post and feel the buzz 😀

MemberJuly 15, 2012 at 8:26 am in reply to: What your first pole was and how functional it was for you?I just have the one pole that my hubby bought me as a suprise. It's an xpole sport, 45 in titanium. I really like it, but haven't used anything else, so can't compare it. All I would say is that had I had a choice in the pole I got, I would have gone for the xpert pole as it both spins and is static. I will defo be buying a spinny pole next as I feel I'm missing out not having the choice and am desperate to try spinny. This is obviously a more expensive way of doing it, rather then just getting a static and spinny in one.

I believe the xpert spins, but the xsport doesn't.

Also, this was supposed to be, like, a status thingy and not a discussion….. Ooooops

Liked 🙂

I'm really interested in this thread too. I only have a static pole and want to start 'livening' up my spins as I feel like i'm just doing the same ones over and over. Defo want to master the oona spin, however I don't have the strength to get into the V invert and after already almost breaking my foot on my piano, don't have the space to really practise it either. One day I will have my own pole room!

It really is amazing to see the fabulous jobs that everyone has. Can't believe the wide range of careers that we have on here!
I have a masters degree in music and am a qualified secondary music teacher, currently doing supply work due to living in Germany. However I am also a professional musician, and am part of the T.A. or reservist army, both as a musician and as an 'amphibious engineer' – meaning I drive big wagons into water where they turn into boats. It's cool! 😀

My work collegues are ALL men. Literally I am the only female (and I am also the youngest by a good 15 years!)
I didn't tell them until a couple of weeks ago when the son of one the guys came round with the window cleaner as his helper… yeah, he couldn't fail to notice the wacking great pole in the middle of my dining room! So obviously the topic came up at home and he told his dad who mentioned it to me next time he saw me.
The guys have all been really good about it. They've been suprised, and somewhat shocked I think but haven't been degrading about it. Worst they've come up with is saying they'll book me as the entertainment for the christmas party, and it'll be a no wives/gf social 🙂 Personally, i just take that as a compliment xDSeeing as they're all blokes though, they're more interested in the videos I have of me falling off the pole, rather than doing something awesome! They find it hilarious.
I find it harder to tell females than I do males. I can cope with fellas making sleazy comments and give them some banter back. I find if women don't like it they tend to be a lot nastier and bitchier though, which I have less time for.

I would love a spinny pole as there are loads of really pretty spins I want to try, but most of all I want my hubby home so he can actually watch/help me.
Might take me a while to save up for a new pole, but hubby arrives back early next week – yippee!!! xD

I second what’s already been said. You are now classed as being ELITE! Which is amazingly awesome! You’ve progressed through the other stages, reaching the top of them and you’ll reach the top of this one too.
I make compilation videos of each months practice so i can look back and see the work in progress and smile at how crap i was at some things, then feel good because one month on and I’ve nailed it 🙂 -

Love the title of the pic too – guess we're all super heroes xD

I got home from work and saw this thread and just had to try a 'one-hander' straight away. I reckon it's possible if I get my balance correct, posted a video of my very first unprepared attempts and hope in a few practices I can show improvement 🙂 In the meantime, enjoy meeting Elsie – my cat, 'cause to be fair – she's probably more interesting in this video than I am 😀

Ooooh fab challenge. Really excited at this one – is this an excuse to head out and buy a leather outfit I wonder 😀

MemberApril 27, 2012 at 7:26 am in reply to: Cradle into Butterfly (and other transitions)I struggle with this move a little bit, but it helps me if I get my top foot hooked around the pole slightly, then bend my bottom knee and push up with my bottom foot to give me a little momentum. I also sometimes forget that my body needs to twist round with my foot, once you get that turn with your torso it's much easier.
Not sure if that makes any sense https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif but it hope it might help in someway.
