I completely agree with what everyone else said.  I wanted to add that the beauty of pole isn't defined by body type.  Pick out a cute outfit something that makes you feel sexy, things like monokini's can be a great way to disguise belly flaws and appear perfectly shaped.  Or try a sexy bra and panty duo, even add fishnests and heels, wear whatever makes you FEEL like you WANT TO BE SEEN Your confidence in your own body is what helps alleviate the anxiety, it's like if you feel sexy you can rock that pole and almost forget you have eyes on you.  Get into that "zone"and get a good flow going and understand that your man finds whatever your doing attractive, just like Assi said, it could be a simple as touching the pole and arching your back n he'll be happy https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif lol

If your truly body concious also rember to control the lighting, maye a dark room with several candles or a red light bulb, you want him to see you move and perform but the dimmer the light, the less "imperfections" you'll worry about him seeing, although most men are not half as judgemental of a womans body as we tend to be.

And as funny as it can be to bust out laughing out of a nervous habit, hold it in and use that energy to display your talent….so have fun, dont think to much into it or your likely going to feel akward.  Perhaps having a few sensual practices without him around can get ya going, practise positioning your body in seductive poses, try some floor work and be sure to use music that sets the mood https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

Have fun, and only do what ever you feel most comfortable with.

Thank you all for your responses!!  So from all your reviews and awesome sources for hooping tutorials and such, I think I am going to buy just level one for now, maybe if I get the basics down I will be able to learn by online vids like youtube, or maybe I'll want to keep the hoopnotica flow going by advancing thru their whole series.

Im super excited to learn hooping and find it to be just as addictive watching others hoop as I do with pole lol.

@Curlzgurl, love that you mentioned the idea of hooping in pole clothes, I already am trying to piece together in my head all the possible cute lil outfits I can hoop in haha…Don't you love the fact when we work out we get to dress up and wear things like stripped knee socks with heels?  LOL Oh the possibilities.  I can definitely see that hooping will prob become just as much as an obsession as pole is for me, then again its literally a "healthy" obsession  right??  lmao

@Tine, you did an amazing overview of the DVD's thank you for taking the time to break it down for me.  It's nice to see the comparison between the two levels and what they have to offer. I checked out Netflix because I have their service, but unfortunatly those vids are no longer available grrr, would have been great to try them out like that first!!  Boo netflix lol But with the way you and Kobajo explained how the hoopnotica dvd's work I am def eager to try for myself so I am def going to get level 1 and see how it goes for me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif   Thanks again ladies!

@Blunted I saw a few of SaFire's vids and was def amazed…she totally reminds me of Veena except instead of pole, she's hooping lol

and @ Marley, thanks for all your suggestions, I looked up babzrob… and dang, girl has talent and looks like she breaks things down pretty well, although I think I would have to have my basics down before using her tutorials, she has some fab tricks tho!!  Cant wait til I can do that…yay!!

Well ladies, I am happy to see that hoopnotica has a thumbs up from you all, Imma give it a go!!!  You guys are the best https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

WOW!!  I completely agree, Veena unleashed her vixen, well, we all know its always been there but this video CLEARLY makes that sexiness stand front and center, do I dare say the sexy vibe is contagious??  Makes me wanna just crawl around in some lingerie lol  it's not about the moves or tricks (although each move is perfectly done and has it's own wow factor) but rather this video showcases a all around sexy feel…love it!!!  It all goes perfect together, amazing vid Veena!!!

Yup, it’s happened to me lots of times, mostly because I have thick Capet and I think as the pile of the rug starts to flatten it gives slightly more room, plus my ceiling gives a lil flex so eventually it needs re tightening after some time. I don’t normally check it every time I pole, and it really only gives way after a month straight of poling, but one thing I truly admire about the x pole design is that when it slips it is designed to shift into another position by gripping the ceiling and remounting mid fall so it never fully falls all the way over! It might be crooked and you may lose balance but it shouldn’t ever slip and tumble down. But I’ll agree it def scares the poo outta ya when it shifts and your on it, not fun! Lol

For me the hardest part is watching how certain moves "disfigure" the flab on my belly lol.  I used to be about 40 piunds heavier, plus have three kids and stretchmarks all over, so the skin on my belly looks flat and smooth one minute and then saggy and fat the next…it's a huge eye catcher for me when I watch myself.  But I have to admit, I love recording myself just so I can SEE what I look like dancing and in the right lighting it can be a total self esteem booster (when it hides the flaws)

"They tried to tell me that now XPole is making their titanium poles silver in color! "

WHAT???  Are you kidding me, oh heck  no!  You did better than most cuz it would have taken a lot of patients to not take that chrome pole and pop her wiith it!  Were you dealing with the owner/superviosor some higher up?  If not, please make a call and talk to someone with more of a professional attitude.  They need to do something to make this up to you, they can't refuse you your money back if THEY did not meet your needs.  Just the fact that they have to order another one (aka, the CORRECT one) means at that point you still could have been given a FULL refund!

They sold your otherone right out from under you, mistake or not that is on them.  They should have at least given you the correct pole by the second trip.  I can't even believe they told you chrome and titanium are the same!  Do they know why they charge extra $$ for titanium???  DUH!!!  OMG, Im fuming mad and I'm not even in your shoes.

Mistakes happen and that's fine, but what theyy did and how they treated you was WRONG WRON WRONG!!  I'm so sorry you have been going through this!  And to top it off they talk behind your back….grrrr!!  Again, you have the patients of a saint because that chrome xpert would have wacked someone lol ANd Im usually really nice and non agressive, this just got me all hype lol

Thanks Monary, Im happy to hear that she makes sure her stretches are safe, and I am glad that she is one of the people that make sure you do't get hurt while following her program.   From her ratings and from what I am hearing from you, she sounds legit in what she teaches.  There are so many diffrennt theories on stretching/flexibility and what works and what doesn't.  I know the foam rollers are getting lots of attention too and that was something else I was thinking of before running into her DVD's In the end I just wanna be bendy lol Whatever gets me there the safest is a go in my book.

I actually had an injury back in september while exiting out of a split, not beccause of the split but I have bad knees (they click whenever i walk especially up steps and Im only 26!  Dr's say i need an MRI on it and insurance company wont pay cuz the xray looks fine…never ending case of wth  is wrong with ME?? lmao) Anyways the knee dislocated and i had to take about 4 weeks of from stretching and now i lost my ability to get into a split grrr…  But I also have my eye on some basic contortion moves that i would LOVE to be able to do.  I don't need to be able to do all the wild and crazy stuff but I would really like to nail the chest stand and  that standing scorpian thing lol and Staceys newer DVD looks like it can help with that type of training.  So the fact you said the DVD you have was safe on your knees means a lot!

April 30, 2011 at 10:48 am in reply to: Stretchmarks from poling?

I happen to be one of the people who get stretch marks from anything, and I mean anything!  I literally can spot stretchmarks just about anywhere on my body, even near my ankles!! (yes, ankles and it was from sunburn that swelled my skin on my calves and ankles, and yep, when the sunburn faded the stretch marks appeared )   My sister is the same way, and always been slim, she's never weighed more than about 150 and yet the poor girl has stretch marks on her hips and thighs like crazy.  It believe its partly genetic, I am an A cup and have stretch marks on my boobs for crying out loud lmao!!  So if you get stretchmarks easily I would think you would get a few more from poling, particularly in places where your gripping with your skin and depending on friction to hold you.  I wish there was a secret to making them dissapear for good, if anyone knows of a secret potion let me know lol  I can't say that I have noticed any new stretch marks lately from poling but I wouldnt count myself in the clear, however if your one of the lucky ones who made it through pregnancy without any at all, I'de consider yourself safe, if a baby belly dont do it for ya, the pole prob wont either 🙂  Mine started appearing when I was about 11 years old and I was always slim, so once I had my first child years later, my body was for sure doomed as I gained more weight than I wish to admit lmao

I had a fall last summer doing the shoulder mount.  It was a really hot sticky day and I was doing the shoulder mount,  when I got to the point where my legs could grasp the pole my hands cupped off the pole (due to sweat) and I fell, tucking  my head in saved me but to this day I stil have back pain every now and  then that I believe was from the fall.  I have succesfully shoulder mounted after that but it is a move that I have "lost" for now since I tend to be scared of my hands cupping off again 🙁 As with anything I put my mind to, I wont give up or give in, but I have given that move a rest for now, and will relearn it when I shake the fear lol

Its totally normal sweetie, dont give up!!  I used to be able to do the shoulder mount and then one day I tried and couldnt even get my feet more than 10 inches off the ground.  No matter how many times I work on that move I feell like its never coming back…as a matter of fact I was better at it the first time I eveer tried it than I am now!!  Its super frustrating but I've learned to stop focusing on it…I give it a try every now and then some days I feel likee crying cuz it seems so far gone and then boom, I'll surprise myself and get just a little better..but my time and energy is no longer wasted on redundantly trying to master it…theres a ton of stuff I cant do, so I work on a move or two and just have fun dancing with the moves I do  have totally down already.  When ur really in need of a pick up put on a good song, forget the move all together and just do what flows from you and dont forget to glance in the mirror at your self 🙂 Dont throw in the towel over one move, not when you have already come so far!  Celebrate what you have accomplished so far girl!!

April 5, 2011 at 1:36 pm in reply to: Helpful Tips for Permanent Healthy Eating?

    Great advice everyone!

I'll def chime in with Sair, eating clean works!  I fell off the wagon of eating clean and man did my body respond in a bad way, I gained 10 pounds just like that and am near close to having insomnia again.  Eating clean keeps your body satisfied on what it needs, the concept is that when you eat processed food, your body soon sends hunger signals again because the nurients it needs are not being met, but when you eat whole foods, such as fruits, veggies, whole grains, avoid white refined sugars breads and pastas, drink plenty of water and avoid atificial sweeteners, something amazing happens….your body is back to optimal function and you have energy, many find they get better rest, hormones becomes balanced and the weight will fall off at about 2 pounds a week, all without calorie counting!

I go on the eating clean website from time to time for recipe ideas and inspiring stories, but mainly I just eat when I am hungry (I am a big eater too!) eat whole grain pasta, bread, fruits, veggies, chicken, eggs. nuts, stirfrys…you name it and the weight comes off!  Its not a "diet" just like Sair said, its common sense eating somehow ppl made a way to market that lol

Also…I go to http://www.thegraciouspantry.com/  for great eating clean recipe when ever I feel I need a recipe change…Im not just talking salad here, she has recipes for brownies, muffins, cherry pie, cinnamon rolls…you name it…all without processed foods, all whole grain, no sugar, no artificial sweeteners!

I think the hardest part of permanent healthy eating is that once you allow yourself to slip, you have to be strong enough to nip it in the bud.  Like so many otheres here have said, allow yourself to cheat so you dont feel deprived but enough consistant cheating can wreck a healthy eating plan…its all about balance!

Also I highly recomend Jillian Michaels Master Your Metabolism book, for me this book was way way way more informative than the eating clean book, she gets into a lot of info on why avoiding processed foods is the key to losing weight, and she doesnt push calorie counting in this book either, well not so much she emntions to eat between 1800-2000 calories…but thats standard advice anyways.  I am NOT a fan of counting cals if ya can tell https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif  Its too much work!

@ Tovah thank you for sharing that.  I can relate to you in so many ways about the whole dance issue being condemed in churches.  I don't understain why some people think dance is a sin!  When thats not even a BIBLICAL teaching! The church I got to is a Baptist church, love the sermons, the pastor is great, my kids love it there but the worship is very old school in the sense you dont even lift your hands to praise, let along sway your body, somehow that would be too suggestive?? HUH!?? I dont get it, but I find the other churches in my area that have a diffrent style of worship are weak on their sermons, so i stay there knowing that just about everyone there would condem me for my choice of fitness.

I mean slightly over a year ago I was about 40 pounds heavier, this is the ONE exercise that I actually enjoy and to me its even more than fitness.  It's finally a way for me to have a hobby and something to be pationate about that is just for me.  Before pole I was pretty boring lol, now I have a fun streak!  It agravates me that people are so judgemental because it places an unfair burden on us  that somehow whether we like it or not, we do in some way shape or form carry.

There is def a stigma on pole dancing from christians and non-christians a like.  It's the reason that many of us take our pole down when we have certain people over the house or choose to remain silent on our passion.  I highly applaud those who "just dont care" and remain trasparent in their pole dancing to everyone with the, "I see this as a form of fitness and dance if you see it in a nother light, thats on you"  I would love to be that open.  And you know what, perhaps just having studios like this one that we are talking about, would make me feel more empowered to have that kind of view on it.  They say there is power in numbers and if I had a class to go to with all woman who had my same beliefs and convictions and remained just as open minded and passionate about pole as I am, I would feel I had an alliance behind me and would be more "in your face" with my poling lol

I also forgot to mention that to some women (although not myself) they would immediatly write off pole dancing just because of the music, so a class like this could get them in the door and see that you dont have to dance in a sexual manner, it really could be about the tricks and purely fitness!  Some studios tecah all about the "inner she" and things like that which could be off putting to a Chrsitian.  Like I said, it doesnt bother me but I do believe it would help more and more Christian women break out of their ridgid opionins of Pole dancing!  And the more people we can get involved in pole the sooner it becomes less taboo!

and @ Charley thanks for your comments, I am slowly seeing the merge come together in my dancing.  And after all this talk about this, it makes me wanna just try out dancing to a worship song, maybe ease into it with a song by Creed or something lol.  It will prob be a freeing moment for me when I can do something like that, I'll have to record it and post it here when I get finally dance to a Christian song 🙂

Hi guys, I just wanted to say sorry for the link I posted, I was searching for the story I found a few years ago, this wasn't it but i thought it was from the same church, not realising it was just a poke fun story 🙁 It was late lastnight when i posted it and Im sorry for the confusion.  The article I saw a while back was similiar, in that along with flags and banners and tambourines they also had poles in the church for performances during worship.  I couldnt and still cant find that article anywhere!  Anyways yeah, the comments to that other link, and what that article was stating is NOT what I meant to post.  Like i siaid, i am a Christian and I pole dance and find nothing wrong with it, its opinions like theirs that are nothing short of cruel and judgemental and sadly many of them will never know how in the wrong they are for what they say!
