I emailed the producer to find out. I have alot of friends (and my husband) who wanted to listen to it.  Of course my husband just wants to listen to see what kind of questions they asked.

I know im always worried that my instructor wont be able to spot me well b/c I am twice her size.  Sometimes I just need someone to gently spot me.   I love what your doing Charley!

When I first started having issues with doing the basic invert, I went straight to Jessalynn after class and asked what can I do at home to help.  Some women will be straight forward and ask you what they need to do, others may feel a bit scared to ask.

You may want to give the girl some encouragement after class, that may open her up to express where shes stuck at.  Thats your opening to offer some advice.

I got an answer back – Since SV is not a studio in the area, I cannot represent them at the competiton.  But she gave me a few other studios who are up and coming to see if they would like me to represent them.

No matter what the answer, I was ok with it.  I just need to decide if I really want to do it that way.  Bummer, but its cool

What scared me the most at first was getting off the ground, any basic spins (fireman, love it or hate it aka the face plant spin) I was scared.  I had the feeling that the pole was going to come off.  Being that size you take alot of factors into consideration.  Its almost borderline being self concious.  Over time between working on my grip and building confidence within myself (personal and poling), I got over the fears and now I have no problem spinning.  But it does take time.

Climbing wasnt so bad, once I got the basics.  I didnt get to the top the first time but after a few attempts I was hanging out up there with everyone else.  I am still working on my invert, I think I may have found my issue and im currently working on it.

As for transititons, I never really had a problem with that.  I guess all those years of dance, cheer and gymnastics seemed to help.  But really breaking down the the moves seems to help alot of the curvy gals in my class.  I love seeing curvy girls in the advanced classes!!

You might run into alot of women who are unsure about themseleves and poling, do your best at building their self esteem.  Sometimes just that boost will make me want to give it one more try.

I know I do alot of off pole stuff to help.  Push ups have been my best friend through all of it. That has really helped with climbing and all my upper body strength.

I never felt really insecure when I first starting taking class.  No one gave me a hard time for being curvy.  Heck, I get alot of love b/c of my size!  Leave it all at the door and have fun is what I always tell people.

We have a key tag at the studio I go to.  You have to call and reserve your pole, you can only do that if you have the key tag.  If not, you will go on the waiting list.   They will take down your name and key tag number.  If you cancel 2hrs before class your off the hook, if not they will charge you your class.

Im a former competitive cheerleading and my daughter is a cheerleader as well.

I used the curlformers on my daughter – they are expensive but very worth it.  If you sign up for the Sallys Beauty club you get alot of $5 off coups which really help.  I bought about 3 pack of them to do her hair.  I still neeed more but she never got mad, slept in them well and they are easy to get out.  You can get them in various widths and lenghts.  I got short ones for her since her hair had to be in a pony tail and she doesnt have alot of hair to begin with.

What I did for her hair was waited a few days for her hair to get dirty (dirty hair always works well), then run some gel in it.  A dab will do you unless you want crunchy curls.  Then as I would get a strand I would hit it up with some hairspray then put the curler in.  They are put in for overnight and they arent taken out until they get to the venue and sit.  So your looking at somewhere between 8-10 hrs but the curl will last.  I finally got a chance to wash her hair yesterday (she had a comp Sat morning so her hair was done on friday night).

I always pick the music first.  The song will come to you.  It always does for me.  I listen to the song and listen to points where I want to do certian moves.  From there I work around it.  Theres always alot of editing.  I have big habit of choreographing a routine that I cant do.  I know I cant be the only one who does that!

Then I work on that routine non stop. I get to a point where I can play it out in my head everytime I hear the song.  The advantage of dancing solo is if you screw up a move, no will know the difference.  I have to do it that way or its mostly dancing and no tricks!

Ive been a pole dance competitior since 2008, I have lots of experience from pole and cheer.  I was a competitive cheerleader for almost 10yrs and won LOTS of titles.

    1. Should I revamp my diet? More protein? Lean out? More vitamins? I would focus on eating healthy, watch what you eat.  Dont get too crazy over your diet.  Lots of water!

    2. How many months should I give myself to prepare a routine? Depending on when the comp is.  Some do announce early .  The one im in announces the prelim rounds 5 months in advance.  Im doing all 3 catagories so I focus on each routine hardcore for about 6 weeks and then clean it up during the last part.

    3. Where do you go to look for entry level competitions? subscribe to all the studios newsletters in your area.  They will know whats local and worth it.  Lots of FB stalking as well!

    4. If you win a competition, what's next? What is the road to a Pro Poler? Thats all on you and what you want to do with pole.  Read contracts carefully, some comps if you win you are not allowed to promote another comp during your reign.   To become pro with USPDF you have to earn you pro status.  You have to compete in the amateur round and earn the title.  Then you can compete as a pro status.

    5. Should I be concerned about competition constume just yet? if you know your scoring then it will tell you how much your costume is worth.  In my comp im in, costume is only worth 5pts.  I would work on it when you have free time but dont put all your eggs in the costume basket.

    6. How long do routines usually last? most are in the 3-5min range.  Most comps will tell you ahead of time how long your routine should be.

    7. Aside from pole routines and tricks, should I be going to the gym for extra upper body workouts? I also hit the gym.  I do lots of upper body with weights, abs and cardio.  The gym has longer  hours than the pole studio so I want to make sure I am at least working out.

    8. Any advice on vitamin supplements? I am taking a multi vitamin and CLA.  Its not needed but if you feel like you need to take it then go for it.

    9. What do you bring with you to competition? I bring all my costumes, safety pins, double sided tape, energy drink, snack, touch up make up, ipod and headphones.  I have a stretch mix ready so I warm up before I go on.  I try to do my  hair and makeup before I get there so I can focus on stretching.

    10. Does anyone have any competition stories? I have plenty, just not enough time to type them all.  I can tell you my first comp I did, I missed advancing by ONE POINT!  That hurt for a long time.  I eventually got over it.  I havent gotten a title under my belt just yet, but I keep trying.

FINALLY HAVE FUN!!!!  Dont stress yourself out if it doesnt go as planned.  Only you know if you fudged up your routine.

Sorry its been so long to respond but THANK YOU!!!  Im going to start working on it low and work my way up for heights. I know my lower abs are gonna need alot of work  to get this move.

My thought is to shoulder dismount down.  If I still have pole left when I dismount I was going to slide down (so I dont bust my knees doing it) and then maybe a crazy split.

In my head ive got this but I need to practice my inverts!

The only place with any kind of room is the living room.  I could move the ottoman but I also have to get the vaulted ceiling mount as well.  WE aso have a ceiling fan and I dont want to bump into it up at the top.  The living room is the only place we have  a TV and I dont like having my husband watch me practice – It still creeps me out.  And watching TV is how my husband wants to relax from working all day.

I want to leave it up and not have to worry about setting it up and putting it back down.  If its too much of a hassle, then I wont even bother putting it up.
