When in doubt, Xpole is always willing to help you out.  Also the demo on You Tube is really helpful as well.

I understand where your coming from.  Im 250lbs and im always scared of playin on other poles I just dont know yet.  I was sold on the xpole when I went to the convention and played on the Xstages.  My thinking is if they could hold me, then the xpert would work.  Pole takes time,  I took me YEARS to get the basic invert and MONTHS to even climb!

I like a good mix between the two.  Like Charley said, I can get tired watching both of just that one thing.

I like to use tricks for emphasis, like the WOW factor to my routines.  Ive been dancing my whole life so just to dance freely comes very natural to me.  I never feel like I have enough tricks/spins/holds in my routines.

I love watching performers who are underground, ones who are about to go big.  But I do love me some pros as well.

    Alethea

    Jessalynn

KT Coates Swan Lake video was the first real pole video that I fell in love with.

    Karol

I really started to like Marlo after seeing her EMW video.

From my experience of going to those clubs, some do some tricks, some use it as a prop.  Strippers like to do the least amount of work for the most amount of $.  As a female, all the strippers love me.  They love the fact I go with my  husband and we go together.

Funny story is one chick who did tricks was actually an instructor at one the Xpose Fitness locations.

Im having a hip issue as well.  Mines on the outside as well.  I just keep stretching it out but mine isnt bruised though.  I just think its a tight muscle that needs to get worked out.

Theres one alot closer to home that offers a free intro class, basically an evaluation and asses my needs.  I figured if I want to compete, I have to have the mindset of an athlete.  I need to train both on/off and really get the diet thing in gear.

I did a gym membership for a year, it was helpful since I had no where else I was getting cardio from. It also helped me make time for stretching deeper and ab work.  But other than that, I feel like I got nothing else out of the membership.

I have an xpole 50mm in chrome.  It takes a bit of time to warm up but I love chrome, this coming from the woman who had danced on nothing but brass for years!

It really depends on your body chemistry.  Veena brings up a good point about newbies and over gripping.  I know I did in the begining and I was all types of calloused up!

It took me 18mos to get my first one, then it was hit or miss for a very long time.  I also had a 9mos hiatus due to pregnancy.  Now im almost 5yrs in and the invert comes comfortably now.

I did alot of push ups and alot of ab work to really help me out.  Im now working on doing the invert in heels.

My mom used to rent out the basement of this place.  All I kept thinking was non stop pole jams!

After I got the ok from the dr to work out again, I really felt like I had to start all over again.  I couldnt do much of anything.  Within a few months things started clicking and I started to really improve.  Now 2yrs since birth I am stronger than ever and can nail tricks I never thought I would get.

  • Chem, Im with you. I can grab my feet if im on the floor but add a pole in the mix – my body says no thank you!  But its a good stretch for my shoudlers and back!

  • I had many moves I just had to move to my 'eventually' list.  I dont give up on a move, I just try something else.  I agree with Charley sometimes your body and brain just arent clicking at that moment.  Thats how I got the CAR, I just put it aside for awhile and one day it showed up!

My eventually list includes: Marley, knee hold (I can hold with my bottom hand or top, but I just cant let go), anything split grip (I got tendonitis that way, so I think it holds me back a bit).

Im a mom to 2 kiddos (6 and 2).   To be honest my kids dont know I pole, all they know is mom dances.  Now my oldest has seen a pair of my heels and said when she gets older she wants to wear them.  My oldests Girl Scout troop just found out, which they all see it like everyone else. I do tell them I see it as a sport and its like grown up dance class for me.

February 22, 2011 at 4:59 pm in reply to: Ms Xpose 2011

The first year Ms Xpose was introduced, we got a list of how were scored.  We were scored on our crowd, costumes (which was like 5pts), execuction, flow etc.  The past 2yrs ive done it, I never got to see the score card, so I assumed it was the same.  I did ask if I could have the judges notes from my perfomances and go from there.  I have a feeling that they want to see more trick combos.  I havent heard anything yet but if I stop by tonight I will find out.

Dont get me wrong, Im damn proud of those routines.  I had been working on that floor/chair one since last summer!  I had to take alot of time away from praticing so I could focus on the Battle.  And im happy for those who did win, Im making plans to go to the finals to cheer them on.  The competitive side of me has been there my whole life, im a former NCA All-Star Cheerleader.  I praticed 2 days a week and had a competitions every weekend for months on end.

I kinda beat myself up for it simply b/c I have a full time job, 2 kids and thier activiites and my time gets very limited to practice.  Plus with my pole being at my moms, its not like I can get up and practice when the mood strikes.  ( I just had to go and tell one child its not nice tattle and my other one had a saftey pin in his mouth, all within 30 sec!) Now with not having any real routines to work on, I think im going to work on list of moves I want to nail and just go from there.

I would love to do a burlesque/pole showcase. There isnt one around here, unless its an instructor showcase and I dont teach (Yet! my personal goal is to win a competition before I started teaching, but I may have to break that goal and go out on my own!)  Theres alot of talent in the area I live in, and I had a thought about putting together a showcase. But I was still doing the Battle stuff and wanted to focus on Ms Xpose before I put all my effort into a new project.  Im going to Ms Tri-State as a volunteer, so I may check out the venue and get some thoughts out of it. I wanna keep the showcase in DC due to the amount of talent that is right there.

Pole Diva was my personal favorite.  That song is very special to me.  Its my husbands favorite song and its got alot of meaning to him, I wanted to make him proud.  I just felt that song everytime I heard it – sometimes id cry just practicing it!  I had so much fun with my floor/chair.  Im a big fan of 3OH!3 and I love how its so tounge-in-chic, hence the Tight End bottoms!  Im all about showing my range of music styles as well, which is why I went that route this year.

Well, its over and I lost again.  I tried not to look too shook up over it but it just plain sucks.  This was my 3rd time entering and I didnt advance to the finals.  Im facing the same condundrum I did last year, if everyone likes my routines – they why didnt I win?  (for those who dont know, its based on judges scoring – not by the crowd) I show my husband one of the routines I lost too, he said 'you lost to that? yours was much better.'  After some crying, screaming, throwing things and eating some Chipotle, im over it now.  Im debating on going for it in 2012, Ive got time to think about that 🙂

so my pet/street name would be…Chelsea Illinois.  Sorry sounds more like a porn star name to me!  LOL

Lulu is just easy.  My first name, everyone has a hard time pronouncing and writing it. I cant tell you how many times its been all types of messed up, one of the many reasons I go by Lulu or just Lu.  But Ive really thought about this and Lulu sounds so sweet and innocent and then its perform time and WHAM!  Im not what they expected!  LOVE it!

I have a performing name for a very simple reason.  My first name people look at it and get really confused.  My name is LuAyne (pronounced Lu-anne), the Y throws everyone off.  I always say my mom just had to make me the special one!  When I competed in my first competition my bff made t shirts that said Team Lulu.  Lulu eventually stuck and became my performing name.  I love it since it sounds  very sweet and innocent and then I get on stage and BAM!!  im nothing what they think!

    Hey, welcome to SV!

Im in MD and you will see alot of us in this area on here.  And were always down for a pole jam!

When you are able to take classes in DC, I reccomend Pole Pressure!  I know the owner and she used to teach me when she was in MD.  All the staff is awesome !  If you can next week is the Ms Tri-State Competition.  Its at The District in Adams Morgan. Great way to meet some local polers and check out the talent.
